Chapter Eighty: Unhappy

I only stare at the man in front of me attempting to work him out, I didn’t know if he was showing me his full hand in all of this. Yes, I believed that Julia had to have something to do with that night, there was more evidence pointing to her having had a part to play than not. But I couldn’t deny that I had seen the love between her and Max’s father Thomas, the way he looks at her specifically, tells me how much love he has for her. I mean, they could only be putting on an act, but that kind of love is hard to play.

But not only that, I have looked at that little photo in her wallet which could have been overlooked if you didn’t know, many times now asking myself what could have happened so drastically, in the middle which led to what I know about now. The smiles on all of their faces, even Julia’s seemed genuine, her arm was placed around Jared’s mate and didn’t seem to hold any malicious intent which I could see.

“This sounds intriguing, and I have to admit, I have been suspecting that Julia had a part to play in this mess but I’m sorry, the story you’re telling me doesn’t add up.” I say shaking my head a little, I didn’t know if he had gotten the wrong end of the stick when he’d been around Julia, but I don’t think this would be the theory I would go with.

“No please, you have to believe me, I wouldn’t dream about pulling the wool over your eye's ma’am!” Wade begins to panic once he saw I wasn’t taking to what he was telling me, whilst I have to sit back once again getting a little worried at what his next actions may be.

Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to believe what this man was telling me was true, that would only point me in the correct direction to solve this huge mystery. But I couldn’t deny how sceptical I was, he had told me he and Julia had been friends since they were small, why would he suddenly, change gears and begin to work against her?! I wasn’t naïve to think some random man walking into the lobby claiming that he knew it all was going to help me solve this complex case, I wish it was like that.

“What I’m still struggling to understand is why Julia had done it, you claimed it was due to her being weirdly obsessed with Jared, where that may be the case in some respects, it doesn’t mean she would rush after him and help attack some innocent pack. She had just given her title to Max; she had a lot on the line in that moment attempting to reinvent herself.” I explain to this man why I wasn’t fully buying his story, where he once again shakes his head, his actions becoming even more sporadic than before.

“I understand what I am telling you sounds unbelievable, which is why I knew I would need proof if I was to make you believe me.” He says going into his old suit jacket beginning to pull something out, this action once again putting Macaulay on high alert. “As I have said before, Julia and I have been the best of friends ever since we were little, we were so close that she even called me to be here Beta! Which is why Julia didn’t feel the need to hide many things away from me, she would constantly tell me about how unhappy she was in her marriage to the former King Thomas. She hated the fact that she had been mated to a human but understanding that she was Queen and was forced to follow the protocol, she went along with it and even had his children to further the bloodline.” He begins to explain where I couldn’t help but feel a little hurt at the sentence, is that what people secretly feel about me when they learn I’m only human?

“Of course, no one feels like that for ma’am, each person I have spoken to are overjoyed that we have been gifted you as our Queen, no one even mentioning that you’re human.” Macaulay steps in after seeing me take a look down, I just send him a kind smile as a thank you before this Wade fella who has walked in and kind of backhandedly insulted me continued.

“As I said, I knew if you were going to take what I’m saying seriously and believe me, I would need some hardcore proof. Which is why I had taken the liberty of going into their home whilst they were packing for Scotland and finding the one thing that I knew would do the trick.” He smiles holding a beaten-up notebook which had been hidden in his pocket, I stare at him and the notebook a little suspiciously.

“Julia has always been the kind of person who keeps notes on everything, she was very controlling and would need to ensure that each person was on the same page as to not ruin her plans and what she wanted. This resulting in mountains of notebooks in her home full of endless notes, after some digging, I was able to find the notebook she kept on Jared and her plan to have him all for herself.” He smiles as though he was the cat who just got the cream, before the old beaten-up book was handed over to me so that I could take a look myself.

Now that I had the book with me, I pull open the notebook which was being held together with miscellaneous pieces of sticky tape which also seemed to be falling apart. On the first page of the notebook stood the date 28/07/09. This was over ten years ago and around 5 years before the unthinkable happened that night with Griffin, was she really planning all of this when Griffin was still only young himself?

Shaking my head a little from shock and disbelief, I turn the pages where a loose page falls from the book and lands on my lap. With a look of confusion, I open up the folded mystery to find a detailed map of The Shadow Wolf Pack looking back at me, but most importantly, many notes surrounding the area I knew the horrible situation had taken place. If this doesn’t scream that Julia had her part to play in this, I don’t know what does!

“I still don’t understand why Julia did this, it seemed as though this entire plan took years of planning on Julia’s part! What was so important to her that she would take this much time planning it all?” I ask looking up after finding all of this left me feeling more confused and hurt by the second, I couldn’t help but wonder if Julia had planned all along for those children to be in that shed and all perish. I mean, she had everything else planned out to the very last detail!

“She was finally getting Jared, the man she had wanted all along but to her, both of them were stuck in marriages preventing them from finally, being able to love each other.” Wade smiled after seeing I was somewhat getting on board with his very outlandish theory.

Taking a look back down at the notebook which sat in my hands, I begin to flip through more of the pages full to the brim with the many detailed notes Julia would take. How didn’t anyone notice she was crazily writing in this thing, I’m no handwriting expert but to me, this seemed very rushed and all over the place!

There was one page in particular which caused me to stop in my tracks, it was an entire page dedicated to Julia’s to do list, most of the items at the top being crossed off with a red pen, I wonder if that was intentional. One of the very first items which was crossed off made tears want to prick my eyes as my heart sunk.

“Plant the seed that Griffin is off the rails.”

I couldn’t help but look away from the notebook and at the floor once again, this was a theory I myself had come to after speaking with Suzette that day. It was clear that Julia was definitely, talking about Griffin and not in the best of ways. But to see in black and white that she had planned to do that from the start to her own son! It really shows how better off not only Griffin but Max is being away from their monster of a mother. The next item on that dreadful list only confused me for a second.

“Get rid of Remi.”

I had been digging into this for some time now and learnt along the way that Remi, was Jared’s mate, most people don’t even give her the decency of saying her name which hurts me. Even though this did validate what Wade was saying, from what I know about that night and leading up to it, Julia wasn’t the person which killed Remi, the Alpha’s son accidentally, did it.

“I can guess what is going around your head ma’am, yes Julia didn’t do the final kill, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t the mastermind behind it all.” Wade tells me with a smile as though he was reading my thoughts, walking over to an abandoned chair off to the side, he pulls it over to sit in front of me before taking a seat with his hands together.

“You may want to get comfortable ma’am; we are going to be here awhile.” Is all he says with that same smile, I look at him a little shocked, but I couldn’t have known the horrors I was about to hear surrounding this story.
