Chapter Seventy-Eight: Overdue
Once I had demonstrated to the guys what newfound control I had gained, I snap Griffin out of his trance and allow him to have his freewill, which shouldn’t have been taken from him in the first place.
After explaining what had happened to him, all he could do was pace up and down the room continuously. I have known Griffin for many years so to me, I knew this was him attempting to get his head around all he had just learnt. I mean if someone were to casually mention they somehow had this ability to control me at the drop of a hat and there was nothing that I could do to stop it, I know I would be acting the same way as Griffin.
“Please answer me this so I can fully clarify everything that’s happening. So, you’re able to control me now?” He asks after minutes of simply pacing muttering to himself, I nod my head confirming that I now had the power that Julia had abused before.
“I do, when I first started looking into this, it never even crossed my mind that somehow, I would have that sort of power. That was until I sat down and remembered what happened a few years ago.” I say staring him right in the eye with a serous look, it didn’t take him long to understand what I was getting at and soon looks beyond paranoid whilst taking a seat back on the sofa.
“I know for you guys this isn’t going to make any sense so allow to explain, a few years ago, Griffin and I were walking through the town centre of our town. We had just left this food place when this man who obviously, wasn’t from our town approaches us and begins to hit on me. Now, it wouldn’t have been a huge deal and I’d probably have smiled and got on with my day, but when I didn’t give him what he wanted from me, his innocent approach, turned frightening.” I explain thinking back on that time and the way the man looked at me, I honestly, didn’t know what I would have done if I was alone. “He began to get very violent towards me, started calling me a whore and saying I knew I wanted him and if I didn’t hand over what he wanted, he was going to follow me home and get it one way or another.” I gulp where a feel growl ripples through Max, so angry that I could feel him vibrating in a sense as I sat on his lap.
“I’ll rip him apart.” He growls his eyes beginning to turn midnight black as he began to envision what I had experienced, I only smile placing my hand on his chest in hopes of calming him, which I could see helped as he took a deep breath in whilst taking my hand and holding it so tightly.
“Griffin did just that, I don’t know if this man was so concentrated on me that he didn’t take the time to see I wasn’t alone but either way, Griffin locked eyes with him and went off. Before I could even blink, Griffin was on top of this man beating the living shit out of him! People that had seen it all unfold around us began to run over and try all they could to rip Griffin off, but not a single person could move him even an inch.” I explain where as I took a look to Griffin, he shook his head looking down at the floor underneath him, we had spoke about this incident in the past and he would always tell me how he would do anything to save me but, in that moment, he didn’t know what came over him.
“I didn’t know what I could do myself but stand there and watch in horror, after the initial shock, I knew I had to try something, so I shouted at him to stop. You’d think my little shouts over four huge men failing to pull him way wouldn’t do anything, but his fist seemed to freeze in mid air as soon as I spoke, and he got up and stood behind me as though nothing had happened.” I say thinking how shocked and confused I was about that fact back then, if only I knew then what I know now. “Taking this into consideration whilst I was looking into it all, I found out that the person who is able to control a person with half blood doesn’t need to say the command to get them to listen, if you wish to have full control yes. But because I radiated such power in my voice when I demanded he stop, his wolf heard and immediately, forced him to listen.” I say sitting back slightly on Max, I believed I had used my brain a lot in that moment explaining all that I had learnt over these past few weeks. Max seems to realise this and places a soft kiss on my head.
“If I may interrupt, I don’t fully understand why you are reacting in this way, I have not known Miss Rose for long but if I were a half blood, I would want the person able to control me to be her. She will not lead you astray and use the power to her advantage.” Macaulay says looking over at Griffin where I couldn’t help but send him a smile, I would definitely, not use this to force Griffin to do anything he didn’t want to.
“But I also see this as an advantage we have against Julia, she probably doesn’t know that she has lost this power over you which from where I’m sitting, can only work in our favour.” I say with a shrug still leaning on Max, who I could see enjoyed how close I was considering Griffin, was sat in the room with us. “And if she did, she wouldn’t expect it to be me. There were many books in that library which claimed it was impossible for a human to have that sort of control apart from one who stated if the bond between the human and the half blood was so strong, they would be able to control.” I explain with a smile but secretly, wanted to find all of those people who said it was impossible and laugh in their faces, I know shoot me!
My comment did cause Griffin to look up at me with a little smile, but his face soon goes to the floor again. I mean this was still so much to take in, yes, he knew I would never take advantage of him but to learn that it was not only possible for that to happen but to hear it was his mother who had used the power in an evil and vindictive way, it was horrible. But the sadness which I could see growing in him soon switched to anger, this making me wonder if he does get too angry, I could sort of calm him down with the use of the power.
“So, because of a series of people’s fucked up decisions, I’m now having to pay the price of so many people hating my guts! Hating that I exist for doing something I didn’t even have the knowledge I was doing in that moment! I would have never even thought about doing what I’m being prosecuted for, if I had been asked, I would have flat out told them no! But that doesn’t matter, I’ve already been shunned and hated by people who used to love me, everyone here and even my own younger brother who used to look up to me!” He begins to shout throwing his arms around in the air, but that last sentence about Max, I heard his voice crack a little.
“Not everybody hates you Griffin trust me, I’ve spoken to many people around here and they all speak about how much they enjoyed the time you were here. And this guy, he may act or manly and buff.” I say whilst pointing over to Max, who looked down at me with a raised eyebrow but a hint of a smile on his lips. “He doesn’t hate you Griffin, if he did, why would he keep this on his desk?” I ask reaching over and picking up the photo I had seen that day of Griffin and Max, once he looked at the photo, shock soon fills his face.
“You kept that on your desk, despite what I had done that night and what you had witnessed happen between Rose and I?” Griffin asks standing up very slowly from the chair, whilst I also had to turn a little to see how Max was going to react after being reminded of what he had seen that night in my bedroom with Griffin, in a very creepy manner I might add.
“I do not agree with what you had done the night of the attack and despite the fact that whenever I picture what I had seen that night with yourself and Rose, I picture ripping you apart limb from limb.” Max begins to growl causing me to wonder if this was about to turn ugly, but he soon takes a deep breath in looking at his brother. “You are still my older brother; it is unfeasible for me to hate you.” Max confesses looking at his brother in the eye, where Griffin soon has to turn around in order for the room not to see him cry.
As I watched him stood there, I knew he may not be the kind to show how he felt, but I could see he wanted Max there. So, standing up and instructing Max to go see his brother, I sit back in his very comfortable chair and watch as the two brothers share a very special hug which hadn’t happened in too many years. I simply smile at the encounter before my eyes scan the desk once again and I spot a new addition, an awe escaping my lips as I watched.
“I made the desk.” I smile looking down at the photo which was taken the day that I was announced as Queen, the beautiful photo of Max and I looking in each others' eyes.
“What the fuck man, I saved her life whilst almost dying myself and I never made the desk?!” Fred jokingly says looking over to Max with his hand to his heart, where Max couldn’t help but laugh.
“Do you need a hug, Fred?” I ask with a little smile, where he nods his head opening up his arms for the hug, I simply laugh getting up and wrapping Fred in a tight hug telling him that I cared.
“Now what’s the plan?” Griffin asks whilst I take my seat back on Max’s chair, spinning around slightly actually, having a great time after the stress I had been put under lately.
“Well as I said, we have to keep the fact that you are in the palace under wraps for the time being. I did some looking and it appears your room has been untouched since you left where Max had demanded that no one is to step a foot in there. Whilst doing some extra- curricular activities.” I smile before taking a look to Max, who knew exactly what I meant, sending me a smirk with a sexy little wink. “I was able to learn that we have so many old and unknown tunnels which most start from this room and lead all over the palace, even to your bedroom. You can stay in your room where Fred can bring you food whilst using the tunnels to walk around but not be seen.” I explain the plan I had formulated with Macaulay when we spoke in the hospital whilst the tunnels had come after but worked out great, where Griffin simply sighs.
“So, I will need to remain in my room all day?” He asks with a little whine, but I just shrug my shoulders sending him a smile.
“It’s either that or be caught and die.” I say allowing him to learn the only other option that we had in this moment, where he soon nods his head agreeing with me. “I would say I want to jump back into this case, but I can’t help but feel as though I’m being watched so perhaps now, I know Griffin is safe, I can take a step back and secretly work behind the scenes without anyone knowing.” I suggest but I knew then first chance I got I would look into this, but Max just smiles placing his hands in his pockets.
“That will not be a hard task for you to accomplish considering, you have back-to-back engagements for the rest of the week due to your coronation scheduled for Sunday.” Max asks dropping the last bombshell, I couldn’t help but look shocked as I look to Macauley who remained at the door, once he sends me a nod and a smile, I sit back in the chair with a sigh.
“Yay!” I sarcastically cheer as the chair spun, making the whole room fill with laughter watching me.
