Chapter 55 Bad Feeling

Chapter 55 Bad Feeling
{Warren POV}

I sat in my study with my hand resting under my chin as I thought about everything that had been happening lately. I couldn't stop thinking about the way my wolf reacted whenever Diana was around, that strong, invisible connection I couldn't explain.

And then there was Layla. Whenever she came near me, my wolf grew restless, pulling back as if something was completely wrong. I let out a long sigh, running my fingers through my hair as I leaned back against the leather chair.

I remembered the way Layla had reacted when Diana mentioned that name, Mark. Layla had gone stiff, her face turning pale for a split second before she hid it.

Could there be something about Mark, that I didn't know about?

The soft sound of the door opening pulled me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see Layla walking in, she was dressed in a sheer mesh gown, her body on full display beneath the thin fabric as she walked toward my desk, staring at me seductively.

My wolf stirred inside me for a second, then immediately went quiet and cold.

"Why are you dressed like that?" I asked, staring at her for a moment before turning my gaze back to the papers on my desk. "What if someone sees you like this? Do you know what that would do to your title as Luna?"

"I know, Alpha," she said softly, her voice full of a forced teasing tone. "That's why I made sure no one saw me."

She walked around the large desk, stopping right next to my chair. She ran her fingers across my chest, letting her hands slide up to rest on my shoulders. Leaning down, she pressed a soft kiss against the side of my neck. "I wore this for you so we could have a nice couple moment together while you work."

I shifted in my seat, leaning away from her touch. "I'm not in the mood for that right now, Layla. Leave."

"Why?" she mumbled, her hand reaching down to stroke my chest again. "We haven't had any real quality time together since the Luna Ball. I can help you relax with your work while you sit here."

She leaned closer, lifting her hand right past my face. A sweet, thick smell filled the air around my nose, a strange scent that hit my head like a heavy wave.

My mind instantly fogged over. The sharp suspicion in my gut began to melt away, leaving me feeling strangely dazed, carried away, and weak.

I sat there frozen as she leaned down and pressed her lips against mine. My hands moved on their own, reaching up to rest on her waist.

I found myself kissing her back, the fog in my mind growing thicker with every second. My fingers unbuttoned my shirt, pulling the fabric off my shoulders as her touch grew hotter against my bare skin.

Just as her lips moved down to my throat, the question that had been burning in my chest all day finally popped out of my mouth.

"Who is Mark?" I asked, pulling back slightly.

Layla froze. Her body went stiff against mine, and I saw a quick flash of pure fear cross her eyes before she forced a bright smile onto her face.

"Oh, him?" she said, stepping back just a little to laugh it off. "He's Diana's mate. The one who abandoned her after he got her pregnant. Diana is so shameless, Alpha. She actually decided to keep those bastard pups."

My brows pulled together in a deep frown as I looked at her. "You seem to know Diana so well. Why did you deny knowing her when she came into my office that day?"

Layla paused, her smile faltering for a second. But before I could demand an answer, she shifted the subject entirely, leaning in and pressing her lips tightly against mine again to cut off my words.

"Don't worry about her," Layla whispered against my mouth.

She lifted her gown and swung her leg over my lap, sitting down directly on my thighs with her hands resting on my shoulders.

She wrapped her arms tightly around my neck, pushing her body against mine. That strange, sweet scent rolled off her skin in heavy waves, filling my senses until my wolf started to howl in confusion. The mate bond pulled at my chest, strong, thick, and blinding.

I couldn't fight it anymore. The fog completely took over my mind.

I grabbed her waist with both hands, lifting her just enough to pull her gown up past her hips. She reached down, unbuckling my belt and sliding my pants down my legs. I pressed her back against the leather chair, lining myself up with her wet heat.

With one hard push, I drove myself deep inside her.

Layla let out a sharp gasp, her nails digging into my bare shoulders as I began to move. I pushed into her again and again, the heavy chair creaking under the weight of our bodies.

Her breathing turned fast and heavy, her hands clutching at my back as I set a fast, hard pace. I kept my eyes closed, but every time I buried myself inside her, the image of Diana's flashed in my mind, making my chest ache with a terrible pain I couldn't explain.

I gripped her hips tighter, driving into her with everything I had, trying to wash away the wrongness clinging to my skin. Layla threw her head back, crying out as her body tightened around mine.

A few heavy strokes later, I reached my peak. I groaned out loud, pulling myself completely out of her right as I came, spilling wetly against the edge of the desk and the floor between her legs.

Layla collapsed against my chest, panting heavily as she tried to catch her breath.

I sat there in the quiet room, my chest heaving as I stared up at the ceiling.

Instead of relief, a heavy, sick feeling settled deep in the pit of my stomach. My skin felt dirty, like I had committed a terrible crime against my own soul.

My wolf whimpered deep inside my mind, turning his back on me and hiding away in the dark.

Something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong with my mind, with my mate, and with everything happening around me.

But as I looked down at Layla resting her head on my shoulder, it felt as if invisible chains were wrapped tight around my heart, leaving me with no control over anything happening.
