Chapter 30 Strange Wolves
{Warren’s POV}
My wolf Alpha strength intensified as I lunged at the wolves, hitting them straight in the head. I threw one to the side, howling in anger as the other two lunged at me.
I could sense from the way they moved and their scent that they weren’t from my pack. They must’ve been from outside the Moonlight Pack. The fact that they dared attack on my territory meant war, and that’s what I was ready to give them.
Jane’s grey wolf stood by my side as we fought. My gaze drifted to Diana who was still lying unconscious on the floor. Seeing her like that made my anger rise even more.
One of the wolves thought I was distracted by looking at Diana and lunged at me, but I was faster. My claw slashed his arm and he fell to the ground. I quickly pressed my claw against his head.
Seeing the strength I had, the remaining two wolves ran away, taking the other side of the hallway. Once they were gone, I pressed my claw harder on the wolf under me until he shifted into his human form.
A man with ginger colored hair. I shifted into my human form too. I was naked, but I didn’t care. I grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the ground.
“Who sent you?” I growled. “And what pack did you come from?”
He shook his head, refusing to speak. My grip tightened around his throat. He tried to shift again to escape.
“This is the last time I’ll ask. Who the hell sent you?”
He opened his mouth to say something but before I could hear a word, Jane hit him hard in the neck. His body went limp and dead.
I turned to ask her why she did that, but my gaze snapped to Diana as she slowly opened her eyes. Jane rushed to a locker and grabbed a robe, handing it to me, but I didn’t take it.
I hurried to Diana and lifted her from the ground. She was weak, bruises everywhere. Without wasting a second, I carried her toward the exit where my car was parked. I needed to get her to the hospital fast.
As I reached the car, worry shot through me like a blade. Why did those wolves attack Diana? What did she do to them? Guilt slammed into my chest. I shouldn’t have let her work alone. It gave those enemies a chance.
If I had arrived a minute later…
No. I forced the thought out. I couldn’t handle the idea.
At least I got there on time. At least she was still breathing. And I was grateful the security guard had called me. If not, Diana might not be alive right now.
I placed her gently in the passenger seat. Her breathing was low, like it hurt her to even exist. My chest twisted painfully.
Jane handed me the robe again. This time, I grabbed it and quickly put it on before taking the driver’s seat.
“Make sure to bring at least four hunters,” I ordered, voice deep with Alpha command. “They’ll circle the area in case those wolves come back. You lead them. If you find those wolves, kill them.”
Jane nodded sharply, shifting back into her wolf before running off.
I started the engine and sped away. My eyes kept darting to Diana through the mirror. She looked so tired. So weak. My hands shook around the steering wheel.
Her scent was fading.
I swallowed hard. “Stay with me,” I muttered under my breath. “Please.”
When we arrived at the hospital, the emergency unit rushed to take Diana from my arms. I followed but they stopped me at the door and told me to wait outside.
And waiting was the worst thing ever.
Minutes passed like hours. My wolf paced inside me, restless and scared. My hands kept balling into fists. I could still smell that rogue wolf scent on her skin and it made me want to murder every one of them.
Finally, the pack doctor stepped out. I ran to him before he even said my name.
“How is she?”
He looked tired but calm. “She has a lot of bruises and she’s very weak, but she will be fine.”
My shoulders dropped in relief… but only for a second.
“But Alpha…” he continued, voice lowering, “if this happen again she might loose her unborn pups, She is four weeks pregnant.”
My heart stopped.
Pregnant?
My chest tightened painfully until I could barely breathe. Diana was having pregnant? For her mate. A man who clearly couldn’t protect her. A man who wasn’t here when she needed him.
A man who wasn’t m...
I didn’t know why I cared so much. I shouldn’t. But it hurt. It hurt in a way that made my wolf growl inside me, angry and jealous.
I clenched my jaw and forced myself to keep a straight face.
“Can I see her?”
“Not tonight,” he replied softly. “She’s still unconscious. She needs rest. You can see her tomorrow.”
I inhaled sharply and nodded. “Fine. Make sure no one gets inside her room. No one.”
The doctor agreed before walking away. I stood there, staring at the closed door. A heavy weight settled on my chest like a giant stone.
She’s pregnant. Carrying another man’s pups.
My fists tightened until my nails cut into my palms. Anger and pain mixed in my veins.
Where was her mate? Why wasn’t he protecting her? Why did I feel like she should’ve been mine to protect?
I turned to leave, but every step away from her room felt like I was tearing something inside me apart.
Outside the hospital, the night air hit me, cold and sharp. I looked up at the moon, bright and full, mocking me with its light.
My wolf growled, full of rage.
Someone tried to take her life.
Someone tried to take my—
I paused.
Why did I almost say my mate?
I pushed the thought away quickly. Diana wasn’t mine. She never was.
But the idea that she belonged to someone else made me want to destroy the world.
Those wolves didn’t just attack a woman on my territory. They attacked someone who was starting to mattered to me.
And I wasn’t going to let that go.
