Chapter 89 Use Me and Then Kick Me Away?
Samuel frowned slightly. Jeremy was much more composed than York and rarely looked this flustered.
He sensed something was wrong and quickly asked, "What happened?"
Jeremy glanced at Amelia, who was also looking over with questioning eyes, and said, "I just got word that Geraldo had a heart attack."
Amelia's eyes shot up, and she stepped forward quickly. "When did this happen? How is he now? Which hospital is he at?"
"Just ten minutes ago. He probably hasn't reached the hospital yet, but his family said they're taking him to Dawnview General Hospital. If we leave now, we should make it in time."
Amelia immediately turned to Grant. "Grant, did you drive here?"
Grant nodded.
"Give me your car keys."
"Okay." Grant had just pulled out his keys when Amelia snatched them away.
By the time he reacted, Amelia was already gone.
How was she so fast?
He turned his head again—Samuel had disappeared too.
Could these two teleport or something? How did they both vanish?
But when Grant turned his head yet again, he found that Jeremy had also disappeared.
Grant fell silent.
He was completely bewildered.
Was he the only normal person here?
Fortunately, Holden walked over at that moment.
"Grant, why are you alone? Where's Ms. Richardson?"
"Did you drive here?"
"Yes."
"Quick, take me to Dawnview General Hospital!"
"Yes, sir!"
However, a few minutes later, Grant stopped in front of an electric scooter.
"This is what you call a car?"
Holden scratched his head. "It's the weekend, traffic's bad. I was afraid of being late, so I rode this."
"Never mind, never mind, give me the keys!"
Grant grabbed the keys and rode off, leaving Holden standing there looking confused.
What's the rush? Where's he going?
Meanwhile.
Amelia had just gotten into Grant's car when the passenger door was pulled open.
She frowned and looked over to see Samuel getting in naturally.
Acting like it was perfectly normal to hitch a ride with her.
Seeing her look over, Samuel asked, "What? Can't give me a lift?"
Amelia glanced at the rearview mirror.
Jeremy had clearly driven over too and was right behind her car.
Why did he have to ride in her car?
But opening and closing the door would waste time, and Amelia didn't want to waste a single second. She stepped on the gas and sped onto the main road.
Amelia was a good driver. She drove like the wind all the way, but she was defeated by Goldenvale's traffic.
Amelia pressed hard on the horn, but the traffic didn't budge. Someone even rolled down their window and gave her the middle finger, indicating she was bothering them.
"Damn it!"
Amelia's face was dark.
If she wasn't in a hurry, who would want to keep honking?
Samuel was calmer and tried to comfort her from the side. "Don't be too anxious. Dawnview General Hospital in Goldenvale is famous for its excellent cardiology department. Geraldo will be fine being sent there."
Amelia gripped the steering wheel tightly.
Samuel continued to persuade her. "Sometimes the more anxious you are, the more chaotic things get. You need to calm down now. When we get to the hospital, they might need your help. If something happens to you on the road, things will be even more troublesome for Geraldo."
Hearing this, Amelia's expression softened a bit.
"That's better," Samuel said.
Amelia stared at the traffic ahead and bit her lip.
As if speaking to Samuel but also to herself, she said, "This is my fault."
Samuel looked at her with confusion.
Amelia took a light breath and said, "When he left, I noticed his complexion didn't look good. I should have gone with him or just forced him to go to the hospital for a checkup. But I didn't. I held onto false hope, thinking he might really just be tired."
Samuel frowned and said, "You already did what you should have done. Besides, no matter how capable a person is, they can't predict the future. If everyone could foresee accidents, the world would truly be in chaos."
Amelia's lips moved, but she didn't know what to say.
Undeniably, although Samuel could be annoying sometimes in what he said and did, those words just now did comfort her.
Like a large hand, strangely smoothing the turbulent waves in her heart.
It also made Amelia want to confide in him.
"At first, I didn't want to take Geraldo as a student. Because taking on a student creates a connection. And connections can be troublesome."
Just like today.
If she didn't know Geraldo and they had no connection, she wouldn't need to worry about him.
"But you still took him as your student," Samuel said, looking at her.
Amelia smiled bitterly and said, "Geraldo—don't let his easygoing appearance fool you. Once he's set on something, he won't give up easily."
"How so?"
Undeniably, Samuel was a good listener.
When she spoke, he looked earnestly into her eyes, giving her a feeling of being respected and valued.
Amelia looked away and continued.
"After I gave him guidance once, he kept seeking me out, asking me to take him as a student."
"At that time, he didn't know I was Taylor. Every time he came, he'd bring a huge pile of gifts."
"I was so bothered that I moved somewhere else. Three months later, I happened to return to my old house and found that he was still waiting for me there every day."
"It was a snowy day. Someone that old, acting like he wasn't afraid of the cold."
"I thought if he didn't leave, he'd freeze to death."
"Finally, I had no choice. I was afraid someone would die, so I took him as my student."
"When Geraldo heard me agree, he knelt down to me in the freezing cold. Then he passed out right there."
"Don't you think he's foolish?"
Though her words were scolding Geraldo, her eyes reddened.
Samuel handed her a tissue. Amelia didn't take it and forced the tears back.
Samuel withdrew the tissue, but a thought popped into his mind.
If Amelia would soften and take Geraldo as a student, then if he just persisted, might she accept him too?
The moment this thought emerged, he saw Amelia, who had just been downcast, suddenly brighten up and quickly roll down the window.
"Grant!"
Samuel followed Amelia's gaze and saw Grant riding an electric scooter, just passing by them.
"Amelia? You're still stuck here?"
Without a word, Amelia grabbed the scooter's handlebar.
"Grant, get off! We're switching!"
"What? Okay." Grant nodded quickly. The moment his bottom left the seat, Amelia sat down.
"Be careful, this electric scooter's got some power," Grant reminded her from the side.
Amelia nodded, tossed the car keys to Grant, and was about to ride off when the back seat suddenly sank.
She looked sideways behind her and saw that Samuel had also gotten off the car at some point and was sitting steadily on the back seat.
