Chapter 78 Can't Get Her, Unwilling to Give Up
Amelia said, "Mr. Sullivan, just call me Amelia from now on. I don't want too many people knowing who I am."
She had long stopped relying on healing to make money.
Having too many people come to her would be a hassle.
"Alright, alright, I'll call you Amelia then," Bobby replied with a smile. Then he tugged at Steven and said, "This kid Steven has felt guilty ever since that day. He thinks he shouldn't have doubted you or threatened you to treat his grandpa. Today, he specifically asked me to bring him here to apologize to you."
Bobby was trying to smooth things over between the two.
Although Steven had mentioned on the phone that Samuel publicly called Amelia his fiancée, Stanley from the Crawford family was someone who cared only about profit.
Even if Amelia's medical skills were impressive, the Richardson family had already gone bankrupt.
Stanley wouldn't look twice at a girl from such a family.
So, sooner or later, they would part ways.
But Bobby didn't look down on Amelia.
If Amelia and Steven could end up together in the future, it would be a good thing.
Steven's throat moved slightly as he spoke with some sincerity, "Ms. Richardson, I'm really sorry. I was just too worried that day and did some stupid things. But please understand my concern for my grandpa as a grandson."
Amelia raised an eyebrow.
"You're indeed a good grandson."
Why did he feel like that wasn't a compliment?
But Steven still managed a smile and asked, "Can you forgive me for what I did before, Ms. Richardson? Let's pretend it never happened, bury the hatchet. If you or your family run into any trouble in the future, feel free to come to me."
Amelia didn't care at all about the olive branch Steven was offering.
In fact, she felt a bit annoyed by it.
She could forgive some people.
She wasn't narrow-minded.
But with others, she knew from the first glance that they could never be friends.
Steven fell into the latter category.
If it weren't for the fact that the Richardson family and the Sullivan family had already made peace, Amelia wouldn't even bother listening to a single word of his nonsense.
With a blank expression, she said, "I've always lived by one rule: if others don't mess with me, I won't mess with them. But if someone crosses me, I'll definitely fight back! As long as Mr. Sullivan doesn't come bothering me again, I'll act like nothing ever happened."
Steven's expression stiffened slightly.
He didn't understand.
Why could Amelia talk nicely with Bobby but not with him?
Didn't Bobby also doubt whether she was really the Miracle Physician they had hired that day?
Just as Steven was about to speak, a sharp female voice suddenly cut in.
"Steven, what are you doing here?"
It was Yasmin.
She had just finished her competition and, feeling confident about her performance, rushed out to tell Steven she was sure she'd win.
But as soon as she reached the entrance to the lounge area, she saw Steven hunched over, speaking to Amelia in a low, gruff voice, his eyes filled with both flattery and clear frustration.
Frustration? Why would he be frustrated?
If it were just flattery, Yasmin could understand.
After all, the Sullivan family was too naive, still believing that Roman's recovery was really thanks to Amelia.
For the sake of his family, it made sense for Steven to butter up Amelia.
But why the frustrated look?
It almost seemed like he wanted Amelia but couldn't have her.
This thought made Yasmin nearly lose control of her emotions. Without thinking, she rushed over.
Seeing it was Yasmin, Steven instinctively felt a pang of guilt.
Even though he wasn't sure why he felt guilty.
He coughed awkwardly and turned the question back on her, "What are you doing here?"
"I finished my painting and came out," Yasmin replied, trying hard to suppress the storm of emotions inside her. She nodded calmly at Bobby.
But out of their sight, she glared at Amelia with eyes full of threat.
Amelia looked completely confused.
Why was she staring at her like that?
Did she think Amelia was trying to steal Steven?
What a joke.
Not only would Amelia never be a homewrecker, but even looking at Steven for a second longer annoyed her.
And on top of that, he was Yasmin's boyfriend.
Being suspected like this felt pretty disgusting. Not wanting to stay any longer, she said to Bobby, "I've got something to do. I'm leaving."
With that, she turned and walked away quickly, without a hint of hesitation.
Bobby felt a bit annoyed.
But not at Amelia—at Yasmin.
He had planned to say a few more good words about Roman's friend, hoping Amelia might consider helping, but Yasmin's arrival had driven Amelia away.
With a dark expression, he questioned Yasmin, "Why are you out so soon? I see others are still inside. Did you give up on the competition?"
"No, I didn't," Yasmin quickly explained. "One hour was more than enough for me."
Copying and imitating didn't require much effort—just recreating the image in her mind was enough.
So, she was the fastest and the first to come out.
Hearing this, Bobby's cold gaze softened a little.
"If that's the case, let's wait for the results together."
The competition results would be announced within an hour after it ended.
All they had to do now was wait.
"Don't worry, I'm very confident. The champion title this time will definitely be mine," Yasmin said with certainty, easing the dissatisfaction in Bobby's eyes for the moment.
And Steven, seeing Yasmin's confidence, temporarily forgot the thorn in his heart.
There were plenty of other wealthy young folks around, and Bobby went to greet them one by one, leaving Steven and Yasmin alone.
"Are you hungry? Want some cake?" Steven asked.
Yasmin had no appetite for cake.
Her mind was entirely on the trace of frustration she saw in Steven's eyes earlier.
Taking a deep breath, she couldn't help but ask, "What were you talking about with that country girl Amelia just now?"
Steven instinctively corrected her, "Don't say that about her. Ms. Richardson's identity is far from just some ordinary country girl."
Yasmin's face turned pale, and she asked in disbelief, "Steven, are you scolding me because of her?"
Steven snapped back to reality.
He shook his head and said, "I'm not scolding you because of her. It's just that if my dad heard you say that, he'd be upset with you again."
Yasmin pressed her lips together, nodded, and then asked, "You still haven't told me what you were talking about with her."
Steven replied openly, "Nothing much. My grandpa has a friend who wants her to treat them. Dad and I were asking for her help with that."
Yasmin frowned.
"Steven, didn't you also doubt she was the Miracle Physician? Why do you believe it now?"
Steven cut her off, "But the fact is, Grandpa's health has greatly improved. That's the truth."
Yasmin was so angry she could barely hold it in.
She clenched her fists so hard that her nails dug into her skin, the pain finally helping her suppress her rage.
Hold it in. She had to hold it in.
At least until the competition results were out.
Once the results were announced, neither Bobby nor anyone else would look down on her anymore.
