Chapter 52 Do You Have Nothing to Explain to Me?
As soon as the words left his mouth, Samuel's face turned cold.
York and Jeremy both showed amused expressions.
What was going on today? How dare some nobody try to steal Samuel's fiancée?
"Seems like Efrain's ears aren't working too well," Samuel said coldly.
The next second, York, who was standing to Efrain's right, raised his hand and slapped Efrain hard across the face.
With a sharp crack, Efrain felt his ears ringing and his eardrum throbbing with pain.
Samuel took another step forward, putting on a good-natured expression.
"Are Efrain's ears working a bit better now?"
"I... I..."
Efrain didn't dare speak for a moment, but the next second, he suddenly thought of Amelia and looked at her pleadingly for help.
But Amelia felt insulted just by having Efrain look at her.
"Please help me throw this idiot out."
"Yes! Ms. Richardson!"
York responded, and without even needing Jeremy's help, dragged Efrain toward the manor gates.
"Let go of me!"
Efrain tried to struggle, but York chopped the back of Efrain's neck with his hand.
Efrain passed out instantly.
The world was finally quiet.
Jeremy, who was standing there, could tell Samuel had something to say to Amelia, so he tactfully followed York and helped drag Efrain away.
Outside the gates, York asked, "Where should we dump him?"
Jeremy glanced at the unconscious Efrain with disgust.
"Send him back where he came from. What kind of trash dares to compete with Mr. Crawford for a woman!"
"Good idea. I'll beat him up first, then dump him at Billy's doorstep."
"Remember to drag him far away before you hit him. Don't dirty Ms. Richardson's doorstep."
...
Meanwhile, Amelia felt guilty and didn't dare meet Samuel's eyes.
She just cleared her throat, said "Thanks for your help," and was about to walk back.
The moment they passed each other, Samuel suddenly reached out and grabbed Amelia's wrist.
"Doesn't Ms. Richardson have anything to explain to me?"
With Samuel holding her hand, Amelia couldn't keep walking forward.
She steeled herself and met Samuel's gaze.
Maybe it was the beautiful moonlight, but Samuel seemed even more handsome under the moon than during the day.
But right now she couldn't care about handsome or not—she just wanted to escape.
This is why people shouldn't lie easily—it's really awkward when you get caught.
She cleared her throat again and said, "Don't you already know my identity? What else do I need to explain?"
"Ms. Richardson hid her background just to trick me into breaking off the engagement?"
Amelia slowly furrowed her brows.
"What do you mean trick you into breaking it off? Wasn't Mr. Crawford planning to come to my house to break off the engagement anyway?"
Samuel was caught off guard and said instinctively, "I didn't know you were the Ms. Richardson of the Richardson family."
Amelia suddenly found it a bit funny.
She forcefully pulled her hand back from Samuel's and said coldly, "What? Now that you know I'm the Ms. Richardson of the Richardson family, you don't want to break it off anymore? Mr. Crawford seems to have forgotten that your girlfriend is still at your house waiting for you to come home."
Samuel was stunned. "What girlfriend?"
Amelia felt even more disgusted.
All men in the world are the same—unfaithful.
She stared expressionlessly into Samuel's eyes and said, "Does Mr. Crawford enjoy pretending to be single?"
Samuel looked even more confused.
"I am single. Why would I need to pretend?"
"You—!"
Just as Amelia was about to speak, Grant's voice suddenly came from not far away.
"Amelia? Is that you, Amelia?"
Amelia's words were interrupted. She raised her hand toward Grant's direction.
Soon, Grant came running over.
"Amelia, we've been looking for you. Mom wants to formally introduce you to everyone."
As soon as he finished speaking, Grant noticed Samuel behind Amelia.
He was dressed all in black, so Grant really hadn't noticed him before.
He just felt a very strong presence surrounding him.
After seeing Samuel, he paused, surprised, and asked, "Why is Mr. Crawford here too?"
Samuel glanced at Amelia and said, "I came out for some fresh air and got lost. Luckily I ran into Ms. Richardson."
As he spoke, he deliberately emphasized the title "Ms. Richardson."
Amelia's spine stiffened slightly. She said to Grant, "Mom is looking for me?"
"Yes. Most of the guests have arrived. It's time to introduce you to everyone."
"Okay, let's go back."
Grant nodded, then said to Samuel, "Mr. Crawford, please follow me. I'll show you the way."
Samuel nodded slightly and followed them back to the villa.
Mason came up to them first.
"Amelia, we finally found you. Where did you go just now?"
"It was a bit stuffy inside, so I went out for some fresh air."
"Are you feeling better now?"
"Yes."
"That's good. Go over to Mom then."
Amelia responded and, ignoring Samuel, walked toward Natalie.
Mason and Grant followed.
Mason noticed Samuel had walked over with them and couldn't help lowering his voice to ask Grant, "Why is Mr. Crawford here too?"
Grant said, "He got lost. Our manor isn't that big, and he still got lost. Guess he's someone who gets lost easily. Can't tell from his reputation—they say he's so capable, but he can't even find his way around."
"Lost?"
Mason vaguely felt something was off and instinctively glanced toward Samuel.
Samuel happened to be looking this way too.
Their eyes met, and Mason only felt a powerful presence.
He pulled his lips into a dry smile and nodded slightly at him in acknowledgment.
Samuel nodded back slightly as well.
Only then did Mason look away, feeling even more puzzled.
Someone like that shouldn't be the type to get lost easily.
But the important matter came first, so Mason quickly stopped worrying about it.
Over there, Natalie said a few words to Amelia, then brought her to the center of the hall.
A small platform had been temporarily set up in the center of the hall with a microphone on it.
Natalie picked up the microphone, exchanged a few simple pleasantries, then began introducing Amelia.
"Amelia is my precious daughter, whom I carried for ten months and gave birth to. But unexpectedly, when she was three years old, we accidentally lost her."
As she spoke, Natalie's voice carried a slight sob.
Amelia gently patted Natalie's back. Natalie smiled at her, adjusted her emotions, and continued—
"Fortunately, God still took pity on me and finally let me find her again."
"I don't know how many years I've been looking forward to today's welcome party. Today, I've finally lived to see it."
"Amelia, from now on, our family will never be separated again!"
Amelia smiled. "Never separated again."
Thunderous applause erupted below.
Some people genuinely congratulated Natalie on finding her beloved daughter, but more people were distracted, only paying attention to Samuel's actions.
Seeing him raise his hands to clap, everyone else hurriedly applauded too, and like it was a competition, each one clapped louder than the last.
Before long, the banquet finally drew to a close.
At this moment, Samuel found Natalie.
