Chapter 237 He Will Protect Her
"Samuel!"
Amelia shouted, "Believe it or not, it's up to you. If you don't believe me, forget it! If we don't even have this much trust, there's nothing left to say between us."
Samuel was startled by her outburst.
But he quickly recovered.
"This is your explanation? This is how you explain things?" His face darkened.
"I told you, but you don't believe me. What else do you want me to explain? I never knew that in your heart, I'm this kind of person."
"What? So now it's my fault?"
Amelia fell silent, then suddenly pulled open the door and walked out with a grim face.
There were other guests in the second-floor private rooms who, hearing the commotion, came over to see what was happening.
They only saw Amelia leaving with an upset expression, while Samuel asked the waiter to bring in more drinks and didn't chase after her at all.
Amelia's expression grew even worse as she left All Seasons Table and drove away.
This news quickly reached Francis's ears.
He sneered and said, "That photo did end up in Samuel's hands after all."
"Should we start taking action now?" his subordinate asked.
Francis lit a cigarette and said, "No rush. These two have deep feelings for each other. They might make up tonight. Let's wait and see. Meanwhile, we'll create some more conflict between them."
"How do we do that?"
Francis smiled without answering and dialed Finn's number.
"Finn, want to grab some drinks tonight?"
"Francis, is something wrong?"
"Can't I invite you for drinks without a reason?"
"Of course you can."
That evening, Francis "casually" told Finn about Amelia and Samuel's fight.
After hearing this, Finn's expression didn't change much.
But he, who had just said he was quitting smoking, started lighting up again.
Francis watched, skillfully hiding the smile in his eyes.
The next day, Amelia received a call from Finn.
"It's me. Can we have dinner together?"
"Sorry, I'm not in the mood."
"It's about Samuel."
Amelia hesitated for a moment and asked, "When?"
"Dinner?"
"Okay."
Finn sent someone ahead to reserve an entire restaurant.
The news reached Francis's ears.
He took out his phone and called Samuel.
"Mr. Crawford, are you free tonight? I'd like to invite you to dinner. Would you do me the honor?"
"Mr. Hays, you're too kind. If you're treating, I'll certainly join you."
Francis gave him an address, it happened to be the restaurant right next to the one Finn had booked.
……
Evening came in the blink of an eye.
The two groups "coincidentally" ran into each other in the nearby parking lot.
Samuel saw Amelia and Finn appear together, his face darkening considerably.
He looked at them deeply, his eyes full of disgust and coldness.
But he said nothing, turned around, and left.
Francis caught up with him.
"Mr. Crawford, aren't we having dinner?"
"I have something to take care of. Another time."
With that, he got in his car and drove off.
Francis turned to look at Amelia.
He saw Amelia staring in the direction Samuel's car had gone, standing there in a daze, her eyes welling up with moisture, as if she might cry at any moment.
He was delighted, knowing his manipulation had been very effective.
He didn't stay to watch the show any longer, to avoid raising suspicion, he quickly left as well.
"Amelia." Finn couldn't help but speak up. "This is all my fault. I wanted to help you, but I made things worse and deepened the misunderstanding between you two. I can help you explain."
"No need, I'm fine. Thank you, Finn."
Finn was slightly stunned, his heartbeat quickening.
"Actually, we could still...."
Amelia interrupted him. "Finn, have you forgotten everything I said?"
Finn's face turned pale as he forced a smile. "I haven't forgotten. You said spilled water can't be gathered up again. I remember it all."
He was just angry at Samuel, how could he get mad at Amelia and hurt her over such a small thing?
But then he thought, what kind of good person was he anyway?
Samuel got angry because he cared too much about Amelia. Though he used the wrong approach, his intention came from love.
As for himself.
After what Amelia said that day, he spent the whole night thinking about it.
She asked him whether power was most important to him, whether he could give it up for her.
After thinking all night, he reached his answer: he couldn't.
Amelia was a ray of light in his life.
But compared to power, that light still fell short.
He didn't actually crave power, he just really needed it.
He had killed his father, and in that moment, he was lost and helpless.
Power helped him.
His mother was beaten into critical condition by his father and hospitalized, unconscious.
He had no money to treat his mother, couldn't find good doctors.
Again, power helped him.
He loved Amelia, but he also needed power.
This became his obsession.
But it was precisely because of this obsession that his love for Amelia wasn't pure enough, so he lost her. He deserved it.
"I'm heading back now," Amelia said.
Finn's brow furrowed slightly. "Let me take you home."
"No need, I'll take a cab."
"I have something to tell you. It's important, about you and Samuel."
After a moment's hesitation, Amelia nodded in agreement.
After getting in Finn's car, Finn didn't beat around the bush and said directly, "Someone is trying to drive a wedge between you and Samuel. I've looked into it for you, that person person is Francis. You need to be careful of him."
Amelia was somewhat surprised.
Not surprised about Francis, but surprised that Finn would tell her this.
"You...?"
"I'll protect you," Finn's eyes were especially bright.
"Thank you."
"I owe you this."
Amelia fell silent and said nothing more.
Finn didn't speak again either, just silently drove her back to The Richardson Manor.
Only when the car was parked did Finn speak again. "I know your father works for Micah. Don't worry, I'll help your father. The Lewis Family and I won't stand against The Porter family."
Amelia opened her mouth, not knowing what to say for a long while.
She thought Finn might turn love into hate.
He might even become a big problem for The Porter family.
But the facts told her that she hadn't loved the wrong person back then.
"Thank you, Finn."
Finn's eyes brightened slightly.
"Can we still be friends in the future?"
Amelia didn't want him to misunderstand, so she said directly, "Only friends. And I might use you."
"That's fine. Being able to let you use me is a small way I can make it up to you. I'm just afraid you wouldn't even want to see me."
He added, "Don't worry about your fight with Samuel either. I'll go talk to him myself."
"No need." After a moment's hesitation, Amelia told him the truth.
Finn was very surprised.
"Drawing the snake out of its hole?"
"Yes. This isn't the first time Francis has come after me. Each time he acts more ruthlessly. If I hadn't been careful last time, and if someone hadn't happened to help me, I would be dead already."
A dark gleam appeared in Finn's eyes.
"Francis deserves to die."
"He does deserve to die. And this man is a very powerful weapon for The Hays family. Getting rid of him would undoubtedly put The Hays family in crisis."
Finn thought for a moment and said, "Francis has a younger brother, Leo. Maybe we can work through him."
"I was thinking the same thing."
"What do you need me to do?"
"Nothing, we'll handle it ourselves. You've already helped me by telling me this."
"Amelia." Finn said very seriously, "You don't need to be polite with me. I told you, I want to help you."
After a moment of silence, Amelia stopped being coy.
"Then help me with one thing."
After she explained in detail, Finn immediately nodded. "That's easy. I'll get it done for you."
"Thank you."
Finn's lips curved slightly, and his eyes, which had been like dead water, finally found signs of life again.
He would protect her.
Wasn't the original reason he wanted power to protect himself and the people he loved?
He had obtained power, so naturally, he should protect Amelia.
Even if he could never have her again.
But Amelia was right, people can't be too greedy. Just this moment alone, he was already very satisfied.
Amelia said goodbye to Finn and got out of the car. Natalie happened to see them.
She looked at the departing car and asked curiously, "Amelia, why did Finn bring you back?"
Amelia explained to her.
Natalie opened her mouth but couldn't say anything, only letting out a long sigh.
"He's pitiful too."
As she spoke, there was no longer any trace of the disgust for Finn that she'd had at the detention center entrance.
"He's already gotten what he wanted most," Amelia said.
Compared to many others, Finn wasn't pitiful.
He got the power he wanted, and his mother would never be beaten by a man again.
Not being fulfilled in love didn't prevent him from being a successful man now.
As for whether Finn would find a second person who moved his heart, the answer was actually right in front of him.
Scarlett might have ten thousand flaws, but she loved Finn enough.
After Finn got home, his personal assistant reminded him, "Tomorrow is Mrs. O'Connor's birthday. She hasn't been doing well lately. Do you want to send her a birthday gift?"
Finn instinctively wanted to say no.
He knew that Scarlett wasn't doing well because she had poisoned Anthony.
Anthony had told him about this after returning to Thornfield.
Although Anthony helped cover it up, there was now a thorn between them.
That's why Scarlett wasn't doing well.
She was no longer Anthony's most beloved granddaughter.
Instead, Anthony had placed high hopes on Finn.
But Anthony had obviously misjudged again.
The poison in Anthony's body was administered by Finn.
He wanted revenge.
Scarlett alone couldn't have set up his father to gamble back then, Anthony was an accomplice.
But he never expected Anthony to find Amelia to treat his illness.
His poison was eliminated.
But from now on, Finn wouldn't poison Anthony again.
Anthony relied heavily on him now.
And also because of what Amelia said at the TV station that day, which made him deeply reflect on himself.
Amelia was right, no matter what, The Lewis Family had helped him.
Without The Lewis Family, he wouldn't be where he is today.
So the words on the tip of his tongue were swallowed back.
"Pick something for me and send it over."
"Yes."
His personal assistant was very happy.
This was the first time Finn agreed to send his wife a gift.
Even though he was having Scarlett choose it.
