Chapter 236: Luring the Snake out of the Cave
"Amelia is really Finn's ex-girlfriend?" Francis was so excited he nearly lost his usual composure.
His subordinate nodded.
"Absolutely true!"
"Tell me everything."
"They met at Thornfield's library. They both wanted to borrow the same book, but since there was only one copy, Finn let her have it.
Amelia said she'd bring it to him after finishing, so they exchanged contact information.
Later they often met at the library together, grew closer and closer, and naturally started dating."
Francis lit a cigarette with shaking hands.
"Then why did they break up? Amelia didn't like Finn?"
He knew that before Finn climbed up to The Lewis Family, he was just a policeman with no background.
So he instinctively thought Amelia had dumped Finn.
However, his subordinate said, "No, Mr. Hays, you're wrong. Finn betrayed her. For the power and influence The Lewis Family offered, he cheated with Scarlett, and Amelia caught them red-handed. That's why they broke up."
Francis frowned.
So that's what happened.
That meant Finn didn't hate Amelia, but actually owed her?
This wasn't good news for him.
He wanted to win Finn over to stand against the Richardson family.
But then his subordinate continued, "However, Finn still had feelings for Amelia. According to what I found out, on the second day Finn came to Goldenvale, he planned to visit Quinton, and ran into Amelia and Samuel right at the detention center entrance. Samuel punched him. The duty officer at the detention center told me about this."
Francis's eyes lit up again.
He could use Finn to drive a wedge between Amelia and Samuel.
This way, when he proceeded with his plan to get rid of Amelia, Samuel wouldn't investigate deeply.
The only thing he feared in his plan would be gone.
"What a great opportunity!"
"Keep investigating, see if they've been in contact recently."
His subordinate said with a smile, "Working for you, how could I not be thorough? They already met today."
Francis was delighted.
His subordinate pulled out a photo.
In it was a photo of Amelia hugging Finn.
At that time, a staff member had knocked on the door to remind Finn about the recording.
The door wasn't closed properly, and with the knock, it opened a crack.
The two guards at the door had been arranged by Finn in advance - when Amelia arrived, he had them leave, so they wouldn't hear anything that might spread and damage Amelia's reputation.
After all, she was nominally Samuel's fiancée.
This gave Francis's man the chance to take secret photos.
It was also a coincidence.
Francis's subordinate had just found out that both Finn and Amelia were at the TV station recording a show, so he rushed over.
And happened to see that scene.
Those two seconds were captured in the photo.
Francis held the photo in his hands, rubbing it repeatedly.
"Good, excellent! What do you want? You don't have a house in Goldenvale yet, right?"
The subordinate was delighted and quickly thanked Francis.
Francis had always been clear about rewards and punishments with his subordinates, and immediately told him to go pick out a house.
As for Francis himself, he threw the photo in the mail and sent it to Jeremy.
He knew that sending it directly to Samuel, Samuel might not have time to look at an anonymous letter, but if he sent it to Jeremy, he would definitely look.
Jeremy was a very diligent person.
Since it was local mail, Jeremy received the photo the next day.
His forehead broke out in cold sweat, and his first instinct was to destroy the photo.
But after thinking it over, he kept the photo and prepared to send someone to investigate who sent it.
Regardless of whether Amelia and Finn had rekindled their romance, whoever sent the photo definitely had bad intentions.
He had to first find out who this person was, suppress the news, and then privately have a good talk with Amelia.
However, before he could send someone to investigate, Samuel suddenly pushed the door open.
Samuel came to him because he had something urgent for him to do, so he didn't call but went straight to Jeremy's office.
Jeremy was badly startled, his hand shook, and the photo fell to the ground.
Jeremy instinctively stepped on it, but this action was obviously trying to cover something up.
Samuel walked toward him.
"What is it?"
Jeremy's face looked awkward.
"Jeremy, what is it?" Samuel asked again.
Jeremy gritted his teeth and said, "I recently fell for a girl, this is her photo, but... but I don't want to tell you who she is yet."
Samuel looked at him deeply.
"Jeremy, this is the first time you've lied to me. You're very nervous."
"What is it?"
Jeremy knew he couldn't hide it, so he bent down and picked up the photo.
"Mr. Crawford, I'll give you the photo, but you must stay calm. This might be some kind of misunderstanding."
Samuel took the photo directly.
The scene of Amelia and Finn embracing immediately came into view.
Jeremy was so scared his legs went weak.
He didn't even dare look at Samuel's expression.
When Samuel got angry, no one could withstand his fury.
However, after waiting for a while, Jeremy didn't feel any change in the atmosphere.
This wasn't right.
The atmosphere should be extremely tense right now.
He gathered his courage and looked at Samuel, only to see Samuel's brows slightly furrowed, his eyes showing some displeasure - but no anger.
What was going on?
"Mr. Crawford?"
Samuel looked up at him.
Seeing his nervous face, he patted his shoulder and said, "It's fine, Amelia already told me about it."
Jeremy slowly formed a question mark.
Samuel said, "Yesterday she went to the TV station and ran into Finn."
She had told him the situation in detail and informed him in advance that she was going to see Finn.
After the show was recorded, she immediately asked him to dinner and told him everything about their conversation.
Including their "hug."
Amelia said it was her goodbye to the past.
Although he was jealous, he wasn't upset.
What was there to be upset about? She told him everything! This behavior was already an attitude.
And what he wanted was just an attitude.
So seeing the photo, he was jealous, but not angry.
After hearing the explanation, Jeremy let out a long breath, and his admiration for Amelia grew even stronger.
She had proactively told Samuel in advance that she would meet Finn, and then openly told him she had hugged Finn.
This way, no one could drive a wedge between them.
"I'm relieved there's no misunderstanding between you and Ms. Richardson."
Jeremy said, then asked Samuel, "Should we investigate who sent the letter?"
"Investigate!"
"Yes."
Samuel wasn't exactly all-powerful in Goldenvale, so Jeremy asked his brother Byron for help with this matter.
Byron agreed immediately. After all, this matter also involved Amelia, so deploying Shadow Operations Division personnel to investigate was perfectly legitimate.
They got news quickly.
"It's a waiter from Lakeside Hotel," Byron told Jeremy.
Jeremy immediately remembered that Francis was staying at Lakeside Hotel.
"I understand. Tell Ms. Richardson about this too."
"Okay."
Jeremy asked Byron again, "I heard you have someone special?"
Byron's face turned slightly red.
"We're already together."
"Bring her out to meet me sometime. I need to give her a gift."
Byron's face turned even redder. "Let me get her family's approval first, then I'll bring her to meet you."
"Good."
When the two parted, Jeremy patted Byron's shoulder.
"If you need any help, just ask. Between us brothers, no need to be formal."
Byron's eyes became slightly moist.
"Okay, Jeremy!"
Jeremy smiled and drove away.
He was thinking about what gifts he should give when Byron got married.
They had no parents, so he had to count their parents' shares too.
He really needed to work hard.
On the other side, Amelia learned from Byron about being secretly photographed.
"It's Francis's people."
Amelia's eyes turned cold as a dagger.
But soon, she thought of a plan.
The next day, Amelia asked Samuel to dinner.
Still at All Seasons Table.
Amelia really liked the food here.
After the dishes were served and the private room door closed, Samuel told her about the secret photos and gave her the picture.
Amelia glanced at it and instinctively looked at Samuel.
But seeing Samuel's calm expression, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'm glad you're not angry."
Samuel said, "You reported to me in advance. If I still got angry, wouldn't that hurt your feelings? I would never do anything to hurt you. But you need to make it up to me, hug me for ten extra minutes today."
At first, Amelia was touched, but hearing the last part, she wanted to hit him again.
So she actually punched him.
But Samuel caught her hand.
"That feels good, hit me a few more times."
Amelia didn't bother with him and lowered her head to eat.
After finishing the meal, Amelia brought up her plan.
"We can use their plan. When I came over today, I felt like a car was following me. It should also be The Hays family's people. When we leave, we can pretend to have a conflict."
Samuel nodded.
"It's not good to let the snake keep hiding in the shadows. We'd have to be constantly alert, which is exhausting. Might as well draw the snake out into the open. I'm just worried something might happen to you. How about this, I'll leave York with you. Although his brain isn't great, his skills are excellent. Even I'm no match for him."
Amelia laughed.
"Everyone knows he's your man. If you arrange him by my side, won't that blow our cover?"
"But I'm afraid you'll be in danger."
"There's nothing to fear. You told me before, when facing shadows, you should try to overcome them rather than run away. Gather your courage and you'll find it's nothing special."
"I was talking about Finn then."
"Same idea."
Samuel couldn't argue with her, so he could only ask her to arrange extra people around herself for protection.
Amelia agreed.
"I'll be extra careful."
After discussing the detailed plan, they didn't leave immediately.
Samuel made her hug him for ten minutes as compensation.
During these ten minutes, they did nothing but hold each other.
But just this alone made Samuel feel wonderful.
"That tech building, have your people investigate it thoroughly for me. If there's anything suspicious, call me immediately," Amelia seriously instructed Samuel before leaving.
Samuel responded.
"When I handle things, you can be rest assured."
The two "janitors" he sent to go undercover were now very familiar with the people in the building.
If there was any problem with the building, they'd know right away.
Amelia nodded, then vigorously rubbed her face.
Time to start the show!
