Chapter 230: Finn's Reunion
Before Amelia met Samuel, she had imagined countless times what it would be like when she reunited with Finn.
But she never expected it would be at the entrance of a detention center—and with her fingers intertwined with another man's.
Or rather, Amelia had never imagined that one day she would hold hands with any man other than Finn.
Amelia's back stiffened slightly, and Finn, clearly hadn't expected this either.
He seemed to lose control of his expression for a moment, just staring at them blankly.
It was Samuel who broke the awkward silence.
"Mr. O'Connor, what a coincidence. I didn't see you yesterday, but we ran into each other here."
His lips curved up, and he tightened his grip on Amelia's hand.
Amelia felt it.
She pushed down all her messy emotions and calmly met Finn's gaze.
Instead, Finn wasn't so calm. He seemed to deliberately avoid her eyes, not looking at her, only at Samuel.
"Mr. Crawford, I've heard so much about you."
"Mr. O'Connor, I'm the one who's heard so much about you. Yesterday I waited for you at the airport for half an hour. Never thought you'd skip the plane and take the train instead. We waited for nothing."
Finn said expressionlessly, "I don't like social obligations, so I changed my plans at the last minute. Please forgive me, Mr. Crawford."
Both men spoke politely, but their eyes seemed to have already started battling.
Amelia didn't like this awkward situation and just wanted to find an excuse to leave quickly.
Fortunately, just then, Natalie came out.
She didn't know Finn, looked over there with confusion, and asked Amelia, "Who's this?"
Several ways to introduce him flashed through Amelia's mind.
After thinking it over, she decided to just tell the truth.
"This is my ex-boyfriend, Finn. He's also the person the government sent to temporarily replace Marlon's position."
Natalie was slightly shocked, then frowned.
Amelia had told her about Finn.
Finn had badly hurt Amelia's heart.
"Let's go, I'm a bit tired." Natalie's tone was flat, deliberately putting on a show for Finn.
Finn felt a bit lost for a moment.
He didn't even know if he felt lost because of Amelia's words "ex-boyfriend," or because of Natalie's cold attitude.
He also didn't know whether he should greet Natalie.
Greet her?
Natalie had already shown she didn't like him.
Not greet her?
That would be rude.
Before he could decide, Natalie had already pulled Amelia into the car.
Finn missed his chance to greet Natalie.
His face looked even more defeated.
Though he was such a tall man, at this moment he gave off a lonely feeling, as if a gust of wind could break him.
Samuel caught all of this.
His eyes seemed to be lit on fire.
He strode over to stand in front of Finn.
"Finn."
He suddenly called Finn's name. Finn snapped back to attention and looked at him suspiciously.
But the moment their eyes met, Samuel raised his hand and punched Finn right in the nose.
Blood immediately started flowing.
"Mr. O'Connor!"
The two guards were shocked, and the next second they pulled out their guns and aimed at Samuel's head.
Samuel didn't panic at all.
"Put away those guns without bullets."
Phoenicia was now implementing strict gun control, and even planned to enforce comprehensive strict management nationwide.
So although these guards carried guns, they had no bullets.
The two guards' faces changed slightly, looking rather embarrassed.
"I'm fine." Finn wiped his nose, getting blood on his fingers too.
He told the two guards to stand down, and wiped the blood off his face with his sleeve.
"Samuel, do you know how long you could be locked up for assaulting a government official?"
Samuel completely ignored this.
Seeing Finn look so sad and hurt watching Amelia's back made Samuel really angry.
What right did Finn have to be sad?
The one who should be sad was Amelia.
Finn, the betrayer, had no right to be sad.
"I hit you on purpose! You should be grateful I didn't kill you!"
Finn frowned deeply, "Do you know what you're saying?"
"I should be asking you that. What's with that look? Who are you putting on this show for? You broke her heart, and you still have the nerve to act hurt? What, got what you wanted, now you regret being with your current wife, and want to rekindle the old flame? I'm telling you, absolutely not! I'm with Amelia now, and she only has me in her heart! If I see you putting on that innocent act in front of her again, I'll kill you!"
Finn clenched his fists tightly but couldn't say a word.
Samuel sneered and said, "That punch today was on her behalf, but you can put it on my tab. I'm ready anytime!"
With that, he turned and left.
The two guards quickly stepped forward, using their eyes to ask Finn if they should arrest Samuel.
Finn's forehead veins bulged, but he said, "No need! Let's go!"
He got straight into the car.
The two guards looked at each other.
Hadn't he said early this morning that he wanted to visit Quinton, Goldenvale's former richest man?
Finn had even personally spent a long time at the mall picking out a gift.
Why did he leave directly after arriving, without going in to see him?
The two were confused.
Then Finn rolled down the window, his lips pressed thin, and said impatiently, "What are you standing there for?"
Only then did the two hurriedly get in the car.
In another car.
The car Amelia and Natalie were sitting in had been facing away from Samuel and the others, so they didn't know Samuel had hit Finn.
Samuel didn't plan to hide it. As soon as he got in the car, he explained the situation.
"I hit him."
Amelia was slightly stunned and said, "You shouldn't have hit him."
Samuel's eyes turned to her.
Like a deep pool of water.
Natalie, sitting beside them, was afraid they'd start fighting, and immediately said, "A beating is good! He hurt Amelia's heart, he deserved it!"
Amelia knew Samuel and Natalie had both misunderstood her.
She didn't like letting misunderstandings linger overnight.
Back then with Alice's situation, because she didn't speak up clearly, she had misunderstood Samuel for a long time.
So this time, Amelia immediately said to Samuel, whose eyes had darkened, "That's not what I meant. What I meant was, Finn came here this time as an inspector. You hit him, I'm afraid he'll abuse his power and have you arrested."
Samuel's heart settled back down.
He let out a long breath, the heavy look in his eyes fading, returning to a bright glow.
"I thought you couldn't bear to see him hurt."
"How could that be? He and I have nothing to do with each other now."
She added, "And we won't in the future either."
Samuel smiled.
This time he was truly happy.
"Don't worry, if he wants to arrest me, it won't be that easy. If he abuses his power, I can abuse mine too, and make sure he can't continue as inspector."
Amelia didn't respond.
It wasn't until they arrived at The Richardson Manor and Natalie got out of the car that Amelia spoke again.
"Samuel, I don't think you should get into it with him."
Samuel looked at her.
Amelia held up her hands, "Let me say first, this has nothing to do with personal feelings. I'm purely being professional. Hear me out first, then decide whether to be jealous."
Samuel relaxed his brow.
"I won't be jealous, as long as I'm sure you only have me in your heart, I won't be jealous."
"Then who was it just now who immediately changed his attitude after hearing me say 'you shouldn't have hit him'?"
Samuel touched his face, "Did I?"
Amelia didn't argue with him over this, and continued with the main point.
"Finn married Scarlett, he's now part of The Lewis Family."
"The Lewis Family is still run by Anthony. His health isn't good, and he was poisoned. At the beginning of last month, he met with me through the Sullivan family."
"I removed the poison for him and helped him recover."
"Of course, some small things happened in between, which I won't explain in detail."
"Anyway, Anthony and I have reached an agreement."
"The Lewis Family will continue to stay neutral, but they definitely won't side with The Hays family."
"In other words, Finn won't be our enemy. We don't need to make an enemy of him."
Samuel vaguely remembered this.
At the time, she had used Brady, so she had given him a heads up. He knew a little about it.
He just didn't know Anthony had already reached an agreement with Amelia.
"So does this mean I have to put up with Finn?"
Amelia's fingers touched Samuel's brow, and she asked back, "If I can put up with it, why can't you?"
Samuel said, "Because you're more important to me than I am to myself. I can't stand someone who hurt you appearing in front of you without any shame."
Amelia said, "I've already let it go. Because there's no love, there's no hate for him either. Or would you rather I hate him?"
Samuel immediately shook his head.
"No. I don't want you to have any feelings for him, not even hate!"
Amelia smiled, "So, be good. I'm letting go of my hatred for him, and you should let it go with me. In the future, we might even become allies with him. Apart from the romantic aspect, Finn is a decent person."
"You're praising him?"
"I'm just being objective."
Samuel looked at her, but strangely didn't feel angry at all that Amelia praised Finn as "a decent person."
He furrowed his brow.
Amelia noticed and thought he was jealous again.
So she cupped his face and said, "Didn't you promise not to be jealous?"
Samuel felt helpless.
"Do I really seem that jealous?"
"Then why are you frowning?"
"I'm regretting why I couldn't have met you earlier."
Amelia said, "We met a year ago at Crystal Springs Resort, didn't we?"
They had even done the most intimate thing between a man and woman.
Bringing this up, Samuel brightened up.
He held Amelia's hands that were cupping his face and said, "I'll take responsibility for you, Amelia."
Amelia's face turned red.
"Haven't you already taken responsibility?"
She extended her other hand, showing the diamond ring on her finger.
Samuel said solemnly, "Once everything settles down, we'll get married."
"Okay."
The two kissed.
The already stuffy car felt even hotter.
Samuel could barely control himself.
But in the end he still held himself back firmly.
The first time they had sex, he hadn't been able to give Amelia a beautiful memory. The second time, he had to treat it carefully.
"One more thing." Amelia caught her breath and said, "If you can't deal with Finn calmly for now, then send Yosef instead."
