Chapter 204: Others Are All Hers
The bit of dissatisfaction in Amelia's heart vanished instantly.
Samuel sometimes spoke and acted too directly.
Having dealt with so many scheming situations, Amelia actually wasn't very good at dealing with someone so straightforward.
So she was a bit at a loss for words.
But her mind worked quickly, and her focus soon landed on Samuel's words "no one can tear us apart."
"Who wants to tear us apart?" Amelia asked.
Samuel choked, not expecting Amelia to pick up on something wrong from his casual remark.
He answered evasively, "Who would dare tear us apart?"
Amelia's brows furrowed slightly as she said, "I just said you need to agree to one condition before we're officially together, and you haven't even asked what it is."
Samuel didn't care much.
"As long as I can be with you, I'll listen to you about everything. Conditions or not, they're not important."
His whole being belonged to her!
Amelia still frowned.
"You have to agree first before we're officially together."
Samuel had to say, "Then tell me."
Amelia said, "It's simple - you can't hide anything from me."
Samuel fell silent.
"Can you agree to that?"
"Yes!"
"Then tell me, who wants to tear us apart?"
Samuel hadn't expected she was waiting for him here.
It was all his fault for talking too much!
"What? Want to go back on your word right after agreeing?"
"No."
"Then tell me. I'll count down from three. If you don't tell me, leave right now. Three."
"I'll tell you!"
Amelia looked at him quietly.
Samuel had no choice but to bite the bullet and speak, "Last week, when we had dinner together, do you remember I took a phone call?"
Amelia nodded, "After you took that call, your expression was off. I asked you, but you wouldn't say."
"It was my dad calling."
Amelia immediately guessed something and confirmed, "Stanley doesn't want us together?"
Samuel nodded honestly, "Yes."
Amelia's expression became complicated.
She never expected the person trying to tear them apart was Stanley, Samuel's father.
They say marriages without the blessing of elders can't be happy, but before, Stanley had actively approached Natalie and brought up their engagement.
He had previously intended to bring them together.
"Why?" Amelia asked.
Samuel said, "Still investigating."
Amelia looked up at him.
Samuel raised his right hand, "I swear, I really don't know the reason. I'm still investigating."
Amelia withdrew her gaze.
"Fine. When you find out, tell me right away."
"Okay."
Samuel nodded solemnly.
But soon he couldn't stay serious anymore, moving his body closer to her side.
"Amelia, does this mean I can kiss you whenever I want now?"
Amelia's face instantly turned red.
"Is that all you have on your mind?"
Samuel suddenly smiled, his gaze lingering on her lips.
Amelia glared at him fiercely.
"When are you leaving?"
"You want me to leave right after I got here?"
"Yes, my mom and the others are still waiting outside. You've been in here so long, they'll get suspicious."
"Suspicious about what? Mrs. Richardson has known my feelings for a long time."
Amelia's eyes widened.
"When did this happen?"
"The first time you invited me to your house for dinner."
Amelia's eyes grew even wider.
It was that early.
Natalie had kept it so well hidden - she'd always thought Natalie didn't know.
No wonder when she came home late and Samuel helped her make excuses, Natalie wasn't worried at all.
"So, don't worry about being alone with me."
As he spoke, he leaned in to kiss her again.
Amelia was worried about passing her illness to him and quickly turned her face away.
"Wait until I'm better. Not now."
"No, I can't hold back. I've waited so long."
"You're shameless."
"Yes, as long as I can kiss you, I'll be shameless."
Amelia closed her eyes, not wanting to talk to him anymore.
"I have other plans this afternoon. You should leave early so I can rest a bit more."
"Then sleep. I won't talk, I'll just stay here with you."
Amelia wanted to refuse, but drowsiness came quickly - maybe because Samuel was beside her, she felt inexplicably at ease and soon fell asleep.
Samuel gently tucked the blanket around her and slowly backed out.
At the hospital room door, several people were waiting.
Besides Jeremy, they were all from the Richardson family.
Jeremy was talking to them, his words filled with ingratiating smiles.
—Jeremy followed him, and his status had risen accordingly. He'd never been like this with others.
He was trying to please them for Samuel's sake.
Samuel felt his eye for choosing people was quite accurate.
He walked over and greeted each member of the Richardson family.
He guessed Amelia probably hadn't told the Richardson family about Steven, so he didn't mention it either.
"Amelia fell asleep. What did the doctor say?" he asked Natalie.
Natalie glanced at the construction site hard hat in his hand and said, "Just a fever from a cold. Once the fever breaks, she'll be fine. Nothing else is wrong."
Samuel breathed a sigh of relief.
"She really doesn't take care of herself."
Natalie agreed wholeheartedly.
"She's busy every day and always neglects herself. It would be better if she got married - someone could look after her and share her burdens."
Samuel immediately promised.
"Once I finish with recent matters, I'll propose to Amelia."
Natalie was very happy.
She was quite satisfied with Samuel.
"I still have things to do, so I need to leave. I'll have to trouble you to keep an eye on Amelia."
"Of course, I'm her mother."
"Then Mrs. Richardson, goodbye. Everyone, goodbye." Samuel waved.
Amelia's brothers all showed alarmed expressions without exception.
Only Liam, as Amelia's eldest brother and being somewhat older, maintained a relatively calm expression.
"Go ahead, we're here."
"Thank you, Liam."
Samuel nodded and left with Jeremy.
Mason's mind worked a bit slower. After Samuel's figure disappeared from view, he immediately started chattering with questions.
"What's going on with them?"
"Does Samuel really like Amelia?"
"When did this start?"
"What does Amelia think?"
Natalie answered each question.
Probably seeing that Natalie wasn't opposed to Samuel and Amelia's relationship, the other brothers didn't say anything, so Mason didn't say much either.
He just felt a bit sad.
Amelia had only been home for a few months and was already getting married?
He really couldn't bear to let her go.
...
Meanwhile, after Samuel and Jeremy left the hospital, Jeremy couldn't help asking, "Does Ms. Richardson know about Byron and me?"
"She already knows."
"What was her reaction?"
Samuel smiled, "Do you think she couldn't guess? She was just afraid of being wrong and getting disappointed."
Jeremy nodded.
Samuel added, "When she's feeling better, bring Byron to have dinner with me."
"Okay!" After Jeremy agreed, he said, "Ms. Richardson might be going out this afternoon to attend a party."
"Don't pry into things you shouldn't. Especially don't ask Byron."
"Yes."
"You're his brother, but he's Amelia's person. He'll be caught in the middle and torn both ways. Also, Amelia doesn't want me prying too much into her affairs. You need to be on the same page as me - only talk about feelings, nothing else."
"Yes!"
Only then was Samuel satisfied.
He wouldn't go back on what he'd promised Amelia.
Her matters - he would wait for her to tell him voluntarily.
When he'd heard about Finn from Yosef, Finn had already made a mistake. Samuel wouldn't make the same one.
Otherwise, over time, they'd have trust issues.
That was a major taboo in relationships.
Yosef had never taught him this - he'd figured it out himself.
...
Soon it was afternoon.
Amelia took a long nap, but she'd set an alarm and woke up early.
Liam and Grant were by the bedside.
She asked Grant to help her bring some things from home.
But Grant had already prepared everything she needed in advance.
"Here's makeup stuff, here are clothes. I brought three outfits in different styles. See which one suits the occasion you're going to today."
Amelia stared at Grant blankly.
Grant asked her, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Grant."
"What?"
"Since you started working, you've become much more thoughtful than before."
"I've always been thoughtful. And smart."
It was just that he'd been busy lately and couldn't follow Amelia around every day like he did at first.
But after this busy period, he could follow Amelia again.
Amelia smiled, "That's true."
Her strength had mostly recovered. After getting out of bed, Grant and Liam stepped out, and Natalie came in to help.
Natalie chose a black long dress for her.
"Your fever just broke, you can't catch cold, especially your stomach and knees. This dress is best."
Amelia nodded.
Then Natalie personally did her makeup.
Halfway through the makeup, Natalie's eyes suddenly reddened.
Amelia was startled and asked, "Mom, what's wrong? I just had a fever, and I'm fine now, aren't I?"
"It's not that."
Natalie quickly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and said, "While doing your makeup, I suddenly remembered that when you get married, I'll be the one to help you prepare, and thinking that you might leave me soon, I can't bear it."
Hearing this, Amelia's eyes also reddened.
"Mom, let's not even talk about whether Samuel and I can make it to marriage. If we do get married, I'll have you live with us."
But Natalie disagreed.
"Samuel doesn't have a mother, so you won't have mother-in-law problems. How could I go and cause you trouble?"
"But didn't you think Samuel was quite good?"
"That's true, but it might not be the case over time. I like Samuel, but he might not like me. It's better to live farther apart - the relationship might actually be closer that way."
"Anyway, it's too early to talk about this."
"Not that early. You're twenty-five. At your age, I'd already had Mason."
Amelia quickly cut off the topic and had Natalie continue with her makeup.
Natalie's makeup skills were excellent, and Amelia went out looking beautiful.
Faith was already waiting downstairs at the inpatient building.
"Amelia."
