Chapter 203 Falling Ill

Chapter 203 Falling Ill

As soon as the others left, Faith couldn't hold back her emotions anymore. She leaned against the bedside and started sobbing.

"You scared me to death. I thought something happened to you," she sobbed.

While crying, she told Amelia what had happened over the past two days.

After Amelia left the police station that day, she completely lost contact.

Plus, with what just happened to Steven, they thought that even though Steven was dead, he might have left some backup plan that hurt Amelia.

They were really worried.

"Byron couldn't keep his cool and almost stormed straight to The Sullivan Manor. Good thing I was smart enough to hold him back. I knew to check your house first. That's how we found out you had a high fever and you were hospitalized." she explained.

Amelia felt nervous for a moment too.

If Byron had really shown up there, not only would Shadow Operations Division be exposed, but the Sullivan family would become their enemies.

She had killed Steven, but she didn't want to make enemies of the Sullivan family.

"You did great. You've grown up." Amelia said, patting Faith's head.

Faith's face turned red with embarrassment.

"How's the situation at the police station?" Amelia asked.

Faith said, "They've already ruled it an accident. The car was burned so badly, there's no trace of anything. Plus everyone's statements matched up. So many people saw that Steven organized the race himself. No one suspects you."

Amelia nodded.

This was exactly what she expected.

Then she brought up another matter.

"You haven't forgotten about this afternoon's event, have you?" she questioned.

Faith paused for a moment, slapped her forehead, and said, "If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have almost forgotten."

"Go back and get ready. I'll come pick you up when it's time."

"Okay. But will your body be able to handle it?"

"Don't worry, the fever's gone. I'm not that weak."

She got sick for two reasons. One was that night when Steven died, she was exposed to the cold wind and caught a chill.

The other was that she really did feel afraid of death that day.

Looking at Steven's charred body, she kept feeling that if she had made even one wrong move, she would have been the one who died.

Her body caught a chill, and her heart was troubled, so naturally she fell ill.

Now that the fever was gone, her body was slowly regaining its strength.

She used to not be so afraid of death.

Because she was alone with no ties. If she died, Byron, Faith and the others would be upset for a while, but they would still live well.

But now it was different.

She had Natalie behind her, several brothers, and Samuel.

If Amelia died, they would all be very sad for her.

Especially Natalie, who had just found her daughter only to lose her again.

This would be a fatal blow to her.

So Amelia couldn't bear to die anymore, and naturally became afraid of death.

Faith looked at her seriously and suddenly said, "Amelia, I think you've changed a bit."

"What?" Amelia uttered.

"You're more like a real person than before."

"Are you insulting me?"

"I'm complimenting you. Before, you weren't like a person - you were like some deity without much emotion. Now you have feelings and desires. You're a real person now." Faith explained.

"Alright, I won't disturb your rest. I'll go back and tell Byron and the others that you're better, then prepare for this afternoon's reception." She continued.

"Go ahead."

Faith stood up, then remembered something and said, "Amelia, after the event is over, I'll tell you some good news."

Just as she finished speaking, the hospital room door was pushed open urgently.

It was Samuel.

He must have just come back from inspecting a construction site - he still had a white safety helmet on his head.

Black suit with a white safety helmet - a very odd combination.

Grant followed behind Samuel and made an apologetic gesture to Amelia.

"I couldn't stop him."

"It's fine, we were already done talking," Amelia said.

Faith took the opportunity to leave, not forgetting to remind Amelia to drink the chicken soup she brought.

At the door, she turned back and looked deeply at Samuel.

So this was the man Amelia liked?

He was really handsome!

Their children would definitely be beautiful.

Faith and Grant quickly left together, leaving only Amelia and Samuel in the hospital room.

As soon as the door closed, Samuel said nothing but grabbed the back of her head and pressed his lips to hers, kissing her hard.

Amelia was startled. When she came to her senses, she quickly pushed him away.

"Don't, let go."

As she spoke, she covered her mouth to prevent Samuel from suddenly kissing her again.

Samuel helplessly tugged at his lips.

"Don't be scared, I won't kiss you anymore."

Only then did Amelia move her hand away, but her eyes were still very alert.

Samuel felt even more helpless.

He touched the safety helmet on his head and said, "I rushed here from the construction site to see you, and this is how you treat me?"

Amelia rolled her eyes.

"You think I'm stupid? You deliberately wore this from the construction site to show me, right?"

Samuel shrugged.

"Nothing escapes you."

"It's not that nothing escapes me, it's that the people around you aren't blind."

The people around Samuel were all careful in their work. If Samuel ran to the hospital wearing a safety helmet, they would definitely remind him. They wouldn't make such a big mistake.

Samuel was playing games.

But she didn't mind his silly tricks.

She even found it a bit sweet.

Having someone put so much thought into you was something that made you happy.

So as long as it wasn't too much, Amelia could tolerate it.

"Take it off, it doesn't suit you," Amelia said.

Samuel immediately took off the safety helmet.

"How are you now? Do you still have a fever? Besides the fever, is there anywhere else that's uncomfortable? Have you done a full body checkup?" he questioned

"I'm fine now." Amelia answered his string of questions briefly.

"I just found out you were hospitalized." Samuel said, creating some suspense, and asked her, "Guess who told me?"

"Who?"

"Take a guess."

Amelia thought for a moment and said, "Clifton?"

"No. It was Jeremy."

"How did he know?"

"Byron told him." After saying this, he looked at her meaningfully.

Amelia's eyelids twitched hard twice.

Then she heard Samuel say, "You've probably guessed it, right? The two of them are biological brothers."

Amelia's heartbeat quickened.

She remembered Faith's words, "After the event is over, I'll tell you some good news."

So the good news was this?

That really was good news.

Byron's brother wasn't dead, and he was Jeremy.

No good news could be more joyful than this.

"Have they already recognized each other?" she asked.

"Yes."

"How did they recognize each other?"

"Remember after the Scorching Flame Peak incident, Byron was also taken in for questioning as an eyewitness?"

"Yes."

"I drove you away at the time and had Jeremy take him. As soon as they met, they knew who the other was."

Amelia understood.

When they were separated, they weren't particularly young - they were old enough to remember things.

Recognizing each other upon meeting wasn't anything strange.

"I should have let them meet earlier," Amelia said.

She was annoyed at her own hesitation.

Because she was afraid of making a mistake and getting Byron's hopes up only to add to his sadness, she had never been able to make up her mind to arrange for them to meet, which delayed things until today.

She had also experienced finding family. She understood the disappointment of not being able to meet relatives sooner.

Samuel patted her hand.

"It's not too late for them to meet now."

Amelia lifted her face, her eyes bright and shining.

"Yes, it's not ."

She just didn't know if Byron had told Jeremy about Shadow Operations Division.

If Jeremy knew, Samuel should know too.

But looking at Samuel's reaction, he probably didn't know yet.

She breathed a slight sigh of relief, though she didn't know what she was nervous about.

Probably worried about the fickleness of human hearts.

Right now Samuel did like her, but if he knew she was the leader of Shadow Operations Division, knew about her unlimited power and wealth, would he still be able to simply like her as a person like he did now?

Would he, like Finn, have his eyes clouded by interests?

After all, Finn had once cherished her just like Samuel did.

But he also betrayed her in the blink of an eye.

Amelia didn't dare take that risk yet.

She had to remind Byron not to tell Jeremy about this for now.

She had to make sure everything with Shadow Operations Division was properly arranged, so that if she misjudged someone again, others wouldn't be implicated. Only then would she tell Samuel her identity.

Maybe doing this was selfish toward Samuel.

But if she didn't do this, it would also be selfish toward the people of Shadow Operations Division.

"What are you thinking about?"

Samuel's voice interrupted her thoughts.

Amelia quickly came back to her senses and realized Samuel had opened the thermos Faith brought.

"Nothing."

"Drink some, get some nutrition."

"My fever's already gone." Though she said this, she still took the thermos and drank it sip by sip.

Samuel watched her drink while saying, "Steven's death has been confirmed as accidental. The funeral will be in five days. Should we go together?"

"Okay."

Samuel was suddenly silent for a few seconds before speaking, "Amelia, are we together now?"

He had wanted to ask this question since the day he kissed her.

But he was afraid the answer would be no.

Afraid that she only agreed to let him kiss her because she was shocked by Steven's charred body.

Amelia's hand holding the thermos tightened slightly.

Samuel wasn't in a hurry to press her, waiting quietly for her answer.

He looked very calm, but his slightly trembling hands betrayed his inner nervousness.

Finally, Amelia spoke.

"If you agree to one condition, we'll be together."

Samuel's eyes suddenly lit up, and at the same time he found it a bit funny.

"What are you laughing at?" Amelia glared at him.

Samuel immediately stopped laughing and put on a fake serious face, answering her question, "I'm laughing because neither of us is normal."

"What do you mean?"

"When I confessed my feelings to you, it was like talking business with you. Now I'm asking if we're together, and your answer is also like talking business."

Amelia's brows furrowed. Just as she was about to say this was just how she was and if he didn't want to talk about it then forget it, she heard Samuel say, "This shows that we're the same kind of people. We're made for each other. No one can tear us apart!"
