Chapter 171 The True Face of Madness
Felix is the typical stubborn type. Unless you put the evidence right in front of him, he won't believe her.
So she decided to just explain everything tomorrow.
But Amelia thought Felix would keep pestering her. Instead, he just nodded and went upstairs.
Amelia was a bit surprised that Felix was being so cooperative.
Natalie, on the sofa, was also puzzled.
"He's been waiting for you since three in the afternoon. How come now that he's seen you, he just went upstairs without saying anything?"
Amelia shrugged, indicating she didn't know either.
Among her brothers, aside from Hunter, whom she'd never met, Amelia was least familiar with Felix.
She couldn't guess what he was thinking.
But it was good that he wasn't pestering her anymore. She could relax a bit.
She hadn't ridden a horse in so long that her whole body was sore now. She needed to rest properly.
After dinner, Amelia went to lie down.
When she woke up, it was already nine at night.
Amelia went to Liam's room to treat him.
Liam had gotten through the most difficult days. The next few days would still be uncomfortable, but much easier compared to the past two days.
For once, Amelia didn't have to stay up all night and returned to her room early to catch up on sleep.
The next day arrived in a flash. When Amelia came downstairs for breakfast, she saw Felix already waiting there.
He didn't speak, but his dark eyes looked like he wanted to say something.
Amelia broke the silence: "After breakfast, I'll take you somewhere."
Felix seemed to let go of a weight on his mind and followed Amelia to the dining table.
Today's breakfast was normal, nothing too nutritious.
When she asked Uma, she learned that Natalie had gone out.
"Where did she go?" Amelia asked.
Uma said she didn't know.
"But Mrs. Richardson asked me to tell you she went to see an old friend and not to worry."
Amelia nodded, already guessing who Natalie was going to see.
Probably someone from the Porter family.
Recently, because of her arrival, the Richardson family had gone through quite a few changes. Natalie needed to inform the Porter family.
Amelia had always had a good impression of the Porter family, so she felt at ease.
Just then, Grant came downstairs too.
Seeing him in his flashy casual clothes, Amelia asked, "No work today?"
Grant plopped down next to her.
"Amelia, you don't work, so you didn't notice today is the weekend."
Amelia smiled.
"No wonder. You workaholic, not being busy - I'm really not used to it."
"Well, if you miss me, I can work from home from now on."
"That's not necessary..."
"What? Do you find me annoying? I'm so hurt."
Amelia rolled her eyes at him.
Felix watched the two of them joking around, feeling complicated as he lowered his head.
He could have had this, too.
He was the one who did wrong.
Amelia seemed not to notice Felix's low mood. After finishing breakfast, she called Grant to come along.
Felix looked at her and asked, "Where are we going? Is Grant coming too?"
Amelia said, "To a place that can answer the questions you want to ask."
She added: "Grant knows the general situation too, so I'm bringing him along."
Felix nodded, not daring to say more.
It was strange - he was clearly Amelia's brother, yet he was afraid of Amelia.
Probably because he'd seen with his own eyes how she dealt with the people from the Combat Arts hall, or perhaps because he felt guilty toward her.
Amelia made a phone call, then took the two of them out.
Amelia drove.
Half an hour later, the car pulled into Dawnview General Hospital.
"Why are we here?" Felix asked.
Amelia didn't answer and took Felix directly to Geraldo's hospital room.
As it happened, Kyle was there as well.
Kyle seemed to have given up on apologizing to her. When he saw her, he just called out "Ms. Richardson," then stepped back a few paces, leaving space for them.
"Ms. Richardson..." Geraldo propped himself up, trying to sit up.
Amelia quickly put a pillow behind his back.
"How are you doing?"
Though Geraldo was a bit weak, he was in good spirits.
"The doctor said I can go home next week to rest."
"Then you're recovering pretty fast. When you're discharged, I'll prepare a prescription for you."
Geraldo happily agreed.
He glanced at the two men behind Amelia.
One was Grant, whom he would officially take as a student after being discharged, but who was the other one?
Geraldo looked puzzled and asked, "This is?"
Amelia glanced at Felix and explained her purpose.
"This is my brother Felix. He wants to know what Yasmin did to you."
Geraldo was a smart man and had already guessed why Amelia brought Felix.
After all, they used to be siblings. He didn't believe Yasmin would do those things.
"Yasmin, she..."
Geraldo took a breath and told the story from the beginning.
When he mentioned Yasmin plagiarizing Grant's work, Felix's expression didn't change much, but when Geraldo talked about what happened at the coffee shop.
"She had already picked up my medicine for me, but then she thought of something and suddenly threw the medicine out the window..."
"If Ms. Richardson hadn't arrived at the hospital in time and performed surgery on me, I would have died long ago and been buried in the ground."
Felix was stunned.
"She... she told me that... she was too nervous and accidentally dropped the medicine. And she took you to the hospital right away afterward."
Geraldo laughed coldly.
"That's what she told my grandson, too."
Kyle awkwardly stepped forward.
"Felix, Yasmin lied to me and lied to you, too. She did it on purpose. If I hadn't overheard her conversation with her ex-boyfriend that day, I'd still be deceived by her."
"She even deliberately provoked my grandfather with words when he had just been transferred from ICU to a regular room, afraid the truth would come out."
Felix's hands clenched tightly.
He was now certain that what these people were saying was true.
Two people wouldn't come forward for no reason and say Yasmin was a murderer.
And Amelia, who usually couldn't be bothered to waste words with him, wouldn't go out of her way to find these two people to lie to him.
Geraldo was very famous and wasn't someone who would cooperate with Amelia to lie.
Felix slowly lowered his head without saying a word.
He suddenly felt a bit sad.
Actually, he would have believed these words even if Amelia had told him directly, without Geraldo's account.
He really had changed.
It's just that he couldn't just stand by and watch Yasmin get arrested.
Just then, Amelia's phone buzzed.
She took out her phone and looked at it, then told Grant to wait for her in the room while she took Felix to another hospital floor.
"Where are we going now?" Felix asked.
"To see Yasmin."
Felix's expression stiffened slightly. "There's no need to confront her. I believe everything."
Amelia stopped and looked at him quietly.
"Do you really believe it?"
Felix nodded.
"There were a few more things I didn't mention. After Yasmin talked about what she did to Geraldo, she also said that all of this was you deliberately framing her."
Amelia raised her eyelids slightly.
"You believed her? So you hid it from me and sent her to Royal Stirling Racecourse?"
"No, no." Felix shook his head quickly: "Of course, I didn't believe it. In fact, after she said you framed her, I started to suspect that the other things she said were also false."
"But you still helped her."
Felix lowered his eyes.
"She's the sister I watched grow up. Among all the brothers, I'm closest to her. So even though I suspected she really did something wrong, I still couldn't just stand by..."
He paused and said, "If it were you who did something wrong, I would make the same choice."
"Even attempted murder?"
"Yes. Never mind attempted - even if it was successful, I would still help you."
Amelia's eyelid twitched slightly.
As if something had drifted into her eye.
At this moment, she somewhat understood what kind of person Felix really was.
He was stubborn, sided with family over reason, and believed only what he wanted to.
Such a person, though foolish, actually had a very pure heart.
It's just that if the person he was helping weren't Yasmin, perhaps she would forgive him completely.
Two seconds later, Amelia spoke: "What if I made you choose between Yasmin and me?"
This time Felix answered without hesitation: "I'd choose you."
Amelia looked carefully at his eyes and couldn't see any falsehood in them.
She sighed slightly and said, "Come with me. You need to see her."
"I already believe what you said."
"No." Amelia shook her head and said, "You need to see the real her."
Felix nodded: "Okay."
But he thought Amelia would take him to the police station. He didn't expect to go to the tenth floor of the inpatient department.
The tenth floor was the dermatology floor.
As soon as he got off the elevator, he saw two police officers standing at the door of a hospital room.
His eyelid jumped as he looked at Amelia.
"Yasmin is here?"
"Yes." Amelia had no extra words and directly took him to the room where the two officers were stationed.
"Ms. Richardson."
The two officers came forward to greet her; one of them was Brady.
"Is it convenient to visit?"
Brady nodded: "Of course, please go ahead."
Amelia responded and took Felix inside.
Yasmin was lying in a hospital bed receiving an IV drip.
She had been disfigured, with half her face severely burned. She had a high fever all night and only broke it this morning.
But her face was wrapped in gauze, so the wounds couldn't be seen.
Her once bright eyes were now dull, as if covered with a layer of dust.
Hearing the noise, Yasmin looked toward the door.
She saw Felix first, and her eyes immediately brightened.
But then she saw Amelia beside Felix.
In an instant, Yasmin's face became twisted.
"Bitch! How dare you show up in front of me! I'll kill you!"
She got up to rush off the hospital bed.
Felix was startled. He had never seen Yasmin like this.
Like a monster escaped from hell.
Strange and terrifying.
Seeing her about to rush over, Felix reflexively blocked Amelia.
Amelia pushed him away.
"I don't need you to protect me."
The hand that wasn't receiving the IV was handcuffed. She couldn't leave her hospital bed at all.
