Chapter 170 Abandoned Halfway
"You look so beautiful when you smile, I can't help wanting to kiss you."
He meant every word he said.
Amelia blushed again.
But her expression remained stern, and in the next second she suddenly unbuckled her seatbelt.
"Pull over."
Samuel was startled and looked at her. "What's wrong?"
"Someone whose mind is full of desire shouldn't be driving. Get out, I'll drive."
Samuel quickly straightened up. "I'll drive properly..."
Amelia repeated: "Get out. I'm driving."
Seeing she wasn't joking, Samuel had no choice but to turn the wheel and pull over to the side of the road.
However, the moment he got out, Amelia had already moved from the passenger seat directly to the driver's seat, and the car sped away in the next second, leaving Samuel alone by the roadside.
Being dumped by a woman on the side of the road - this was truly a first for him.
The usually dignified and proud Samuel cut a somewhat awkward figure standing by the roadside.
But Samuel quickly realized - Amelia was shy.
She loved hiding her emotions. The shyer she was, the more she liked to act serious.
Samuel suddenly smiled.
His Amelia was really adorable.
When Jeremy came to pick up Samuel, he saw Samuel smiling brilliantly.
He was very confused.
But he didn't dare ask too many questions. When Samuel acted strangely, it usually had to do with Amelia.
He invited Samuel into the car and asked, "Mr. Crawford, where are we going?"
"The Armstrong family."
Just as he'd said before, he liked cleaning up messes for Amelia.
He would handle the Armstrong family situation for her.
Floyd didn't have just one daughter, Niamh. Losing one, though painful, wasn't enough to make him want to die.
With the right amount of "care," this matter would blow over.
After all, Niamh's death, whether looked at openly or secretly, was caused by herself. No one else could be blamed.
"Yes," Jeremy responded and drove toward the Armstrong family.
Meanwhile, Amelia drove Samuel's car, speeding all the way.
The heat on her face gradually faded as the wind blew.
But she didn't go straight home. Instead, she went to the Shadow Operations Division.
Last time, after visiting the Sullivan Manor and meeting Scarlett's grandfather, she had drawn a tube of blood from him.
She had already brought this blood sample to the Shadow Operations Division for testing.
The results should be ready by now.
Sure enough, Faith told her, "There's a toxin in it that's very similar to the 'Soulrend Powder' developed by Shadow Operations Division. After careful examination with my team, we found that mercury compounds were added to the Soulrend Powder in trace amounts."
Amelia's eyes darkened slightly.
"Soulrend Powder is already a deadly poison. Adding mercury compounds to it - someone wanted to make absolutely sure the poisoned person would die."
Faith was also curious.
"Mr. Lewis has been retired for almost ten years. Who would want him dead so badly?"
Amelia called Byron over.
"Check who has ordered Soulrend Powder in the past year. Once you find out, report to me immediately."
Soulrend Powder's shelf life was only one year.
"Yes!" Byron responded.
Amelia also sent Faith to Spring Renewal Clinic to work with Charles on preparing an antidote.
The Richardson family's equipment was limited, and Faith had learned not only to cook from her but also pharmacology.
Working with Charles, they could prepare the antidote in two days at most.
Before leaving, Byron reported another matter to her.
"You asked us to continue monitoring the Hays family. I just got word that Leo called Leonard from prison, complaining that things have gotten tough. The Hays family should be getting Leo out soon."
Amelia nodded.
"Frank works pretty fast."
She had just asked him to reform the prison, and Leo couldn't take it anymore.
But this was expected.
Leo, who had always treated prison like a hotel, suddenly living like an ordinary prisoner - he couldn't stand it even for a day.
But she needed to tell Mason about this.
Otherwise, if Mason found out Leo was getting out, he might do something impulsive.
So after leaving Shadow Operations Division, Amelia drove to Mason's workplace.
They had rented a small office building with very basic conditions.
It looked more like a construction site than an office.
Amelia found him in an office and, after avoiding others, brought up Leo's situation.
Mason looked shocked.
"Amelia, how do you know about this? I... I never told anyone in the family."
Everyone just thought they had broken up.
They didn't know his girlfriend had died.
And that she was repeatedly run over by Leo's car.
But Amelia didn't answer directly. Instead, she asked Mason a question.
"Mason, don't you think it's strange? You're clearly a business genius. You won the entrepreneurship competition in college, but after graduation, your businesses kept failing."
Mason instinctively wanted to say he had bad luck.
But at this moment, Amelia suddenly brought this up.
He frowned and asked, "Did the Hays family do it?"
"That's right. I looked into it for you. Every time your business had problems, although different people caused them, without exception, they were all Leonard's people."
Mason's hand gripping the pen tightened, wishing he could stab Leo's heart with it.
He had always thought it was bad luck. He never imagined it was deliberately caused.
"Mason."
Amelia held Mason's hand and took the pen from him.
"That day during the typhoon, I went to your girlfriend's family and got them to write a letter of forgiveness. Leo should be getting out soon."
Mason's face suddenly darkened.
"Amelia, you... I know you're thinking of my future, but that murderer... I'd rather never do business again than see him get out."
"But what if I said this isn't just for you, but for the Richardson family and many more people?"
Mason looked at her in confusion.
Amelia briefly explained the relationship between the Richardson and Porter families.
"The Hays family and the Porter family have been fighting for a long time. We can't let personal feelings ruin Mom and Dad's plans."
Mason's eyes widened.
"Plans? You mean... Dad went in on purpose?"
"That's right."
Mason fell into a long silence.
Amelia spoke again: "Mason, trust me. Leo won't be happy for long after he gets out. You probably don't know this, but in prison, he eats well and lives well every day. His life isn't much worse than when he was outside."
Mason clenched his fists.
"How can this be..."
"That's the reality. Although he can't leave, he can play the latest games every day. Whatever he wants to eat, someone delivers it right away..."
Mason's eyes grew colder.
"That bastard! He killed someone, how can he still live so comfortably?!"
"Exactly, we can't let him continue being comfortable. Once he gets out, his fate will be countless times worse than when he was inside."
Mason looked at her intently.
"Amelia, after he gets out, if there's anything I can help with, please speak up."
Amelia knew Mason had agreed.
She smiled.
"Don't worry, when I need your help, I won't be shy about asking."
The siblings talked for a long time.
Mason was surprised to discover that he truly knew his own sister only today.
He felt inferior by comparison.
But he suddenly remembered something.
"Amelia, let me ask you - that Mr. King who suddenly appeared and invested in my project, is he also your person?"
Amelia nodded. "That's right."
"And when problems came up halfway through the project, then they were suddenly solved - that was also because of you?"
Amelia nodded again.
Mason felt even more ashamed.
"No wonder Grant likes you so much."
Amelia laughed a couple of times.
"We're family. Helping each other is what we should do."
"But I haven't helped you with anything..."
"Your kindness and trust in me - that's helping me. I used to think I had no family in this world. You all let me experience what family love feels like."
Mason tightened his fists and said, "You came to find me because you were afraid I'd ruin your plans out of personal feelings. You can rest assured now. I won't ruin your plans. I still have that much sense."
Amelia nodded, didn't stay longer, and went home.
Mason stayed at the company.
He had to firmly grasp the opportunity Amelia had fought for him, so as not to let her down.
On the way back, Felix called three times, but Amelia didn't answer.
When he called the fourth time, Amelia simply turned off her phone.
She was actually in a pretty good mood today.
She had accomplished a lot today.
Niamh was dead, Yasmin's face was ruined, and she was arrested. They'd figured out what poison Mr. Lewis had been given, and Mason trusted her.
Until Felix's name appeared on her phone screen, her good mood suddenly vanished.
She felt very irritated inside and drove fast.
Passing through an intersection, Amelia accidentally ran a red light.
And there happened to be traffic police on duty.
She quickly stopped the car, waiting for them to catch up and fine her.
But she didn't expect the police to act as if they hadn't seen anything.
Amelia quickly realized - she was driving Samuel's car.
They wouldn't check a Crawford family car.
She breathed a sigh of relief, but also envied Samuel.
The Shadow Operations Division was highly capable and well-connected, but while Samuel could stand in the sunlight, the Division had to remain in the shadows.
She slowly tightened her grip on the steering wheel, strengthening her resolve to help the Porter family.
In Thornfield, there were many powerful people, but only the Porter family recognized the existence of the Shadow Operations Division.
And only the Porter family could bring Shadow Operations Division into the light.
Many people in the Shadow Operations Division were pitiful, including Byron.
They had the ability and ambition. They shouldn't have to hide in the shadows their whole lives.
For the rest of the drive, Amelia was very careful and didn't run any more red lights.
After all, it was Samuel's car. Better not cause him too much trouble.
She had already caused Samuel quite a bit of trouble today.
Soon, the car pulled into the Richardson family gate.
By now it was dark. As soon as she got out, Felix walked over.
Amelia was a bit tired and didn't want to deal with him.
"Whatever you have to say, let's talk tomorrow."
