CHAPTER 5: FAIL

I didn’t know how long I was sleeping, I just woke up when I felt movement on the bed.

“Bryan?”

He switched the lampshade on. Rev’s face greeted my sight. I sat up quickly.

“Disappointed?” he smirked.

“Rev.. Why-?” I stopped when I recalled that I bawled my eyes out inside his car earlier. I didn’t know why it still affects me, I thought I can control myself, but it turns out I couldn’t. I still couldn’t.

I remember Rev trying to comfort me even though he didn’t understand why I was crying. I can clearly remember that he just hugged me because I was crying uncontrollably. And then my eyes started to feel heavy and I was slowly pulled into slumber.

“You’re in my place.” Rev explained even though I didn’t ask.

“This is not your room.”

“It’s been five years since you last saw my room, how would you know.”

“I was just there last week.”

His brows furrowed and he gave me a pointed look.

I smiled awkwardly. Bummer.

“I.. I just went to visit Auntie Eva, and then she gave me a tour of the house to let me see the renovations and all,” I explained. I forgot that I am no longer welcome inside his room.

Rev didn’t speak. He stood up and turned on the light.

The room looked foreign to me.

“This is my pad. I seldom go home, I stay here most of the time.”

“But why? You’re home is so near to your office. Auntie is alone, she sure misses you a lot.”

“She keeps on blabbering about things I don’t want to talk about.”

“Like falling inlove?”

“Like none of your business, really.”

I chose to keep quiet because I didn’t want Rev to get annoyed with me again.

“Fix yourself, you have to leave now. It’s already 7pm.”

I pouted. “I don’t want to go home yet.”

“I’m tired. I want to sleep early.”

“But it’s raining outside.” I pointed out because I can hear the raindrops against the window glass. And as if on cue, the thunder roared.

He sighed in defeat.

“Okay, then let’s eat dinner.”

We went to the dining are. Rev’s pad is studio type, everything he needs, all in one place. How convenient.

I followed him since I am also hungry.

“You bought all these food,” I stated as I stared at the sumptuous meal on the table. “You knew I would be spending the night here, right?” I teased.

“Who told you that you can sleep here?”

“Me.”

“You’re not welcome here.”

“Just tonight, please..”

He didn’t answer and just started eating. So I started eating, too.

Everything on the table are my favorite food. Rev might not be aware of it, but his instinct must have automatically prompted him to order my favorites.

Rev glared at me when he noticed me smiling.

“Stop making assumptions, you idiot!”

I stuck out my tongue. “Hmm, I think you didn’t really plan on shooing me out. Look at the food, you provided for both of us.”

He glared at me.

“Assuming. For your information, I can eat all of these. I was deprived of lunch because of you!”

I hit my head when I realized he was right. We didn’t get to eat lunch because I fell asleep.

“Sorry..” I murmured and looked down on my plate. He didn’t answer.

After dinner, I looked outside and saw that the rain is still falling furiously. Rev had no choice but to let me spend the night. I smirked. Didn’t he know that I bribed all the gods and goddesses of Olympus just to help me? LOL.

“Is there a convenience store at the ground floor?”

“Why?”

“I don’t have toothbrush.”

“There are spares inside the cabinet on top of the sink. You can use the blue one.”

I looked inside the cabinet as instructed and saw two spare brushes. One is green and one is blue. I sighed at the memory of our toothbrush inside his room. Same colors. Green for him, blue for me because it’s my favorite color.

I wonder if he’s having someone sleep over his pad nowadays that he would always keep spares.

“Who are you buying blue toothbrush for?” I asked nonchalantly, but inside I am afraid of his answer.

“Myself,” he said.

“You prefer green ones.”

“Is there any law that says I cannot use blue ones? I just picked up anything whenever I buy from the supermarket.”

“I don’t believe you. You’re meticulous with your things, you wouldn’t just pick ‘anything’.”

He exasperatedly rolled his eyes upwards.

“Someone must usually come over that you are also stocking other colors.”

Why am I even arguing about useless stuff? I just want to hurt myself. I just want to know if he’s sleeping with someone from time to time.

“Rev, who’s this for?”

“Who else was it for? It was force of habit that I didn’t grew out of so I still keep on buying blue ones for you, okay?!”

Suddenly, I couldn’t stop myself from grinning.

“I really love you, Rev!” I jumped on him before I could think straight. Thankfully, there’s bed behind him or he’d have fallen on the floor.

“Shit!” he cursed.

I moved from him when I felt him unmoving.

“Sorry, I was carried away,” I looked away. He sat up on the bed.

“Rein..”his voice was soft, but very serious. “We can never go back to the way it used to be.”

It was as if a pail of cold water has been dumped on my, I went numbed. I turned around to hide it. Why am I being a crybaby? I wiped the tears sharply and headed towards the sink. I took my time to brush my teeth until I can compose myself.

When I’m done, Rev stood up.

“I’ll bring you home. The rain has stopped.”

I nodded silently because I cannot trust my voice.

He brought me home. Outside my apartment building, I saw Bryan’s car. He was leaning on the driver’s side of it.

I totally forgot that we are meeting tonight.

Bryan saw me leaving Rev’s car. He moved towards me swiftly.

I turned to say goodbye to Rev but he was already speeding away.

“Where have you been? Why didn’t you answer my calls and texts??”

“Sorry.. I didn’t hear them..”

“Were you and your best friend so busy?” he asked sarcastically. “Looks like you have a lot to talk to that you only got home now.”

“Bryan, I’m not in the mood to fight. If you just accompanied me earlier, we are not having this argument right now.”

He sighed and lowered his voice.

“Sorry, hon. Have you eaten?”

“I’m tired. I just want to rest.”

“Okay Hon. I’ll just sleep over tonight.”

“Bryan, I want to be alone tonight.”

Bryan stopped walking beside me and clenched his teeth. I came to my senses.

“I’m sorry hon. I’ll make it up to you next time. Please, just allow me to rest tonight. I feel exhausted.”

Without speaking, he turned around and left without saying goodbye. I am not in the mood to chase him. When I cannot see his car anymore, I hailed a cab.
