Chapter 308 : Part Of Her Plan

Chapter 308 : Part Of Her Plan
Soon after Jareth left, a man dressed in a doctor's coat pushed open the door to Allison's hospital room.

Allison was propped up in bed and recognized the familiar face the moment she saw him.

It was Kingsley.

Back on the day she married Jareth, Kingsley had promised he would give her a wedding gift. That gift had been the gun.

No one had believed her marriage to Jareth would end well. Everyone saw him as a ticking time bomb, and Kingsley had worried that if Jareth ever lost control, Allison wouldn't be able to protect herself.

That was why he had given her the gun. It was meant to keep her safe.

Allison looked at him. "Kingsley."

Kingsley pulled down his mask and looked at her with disappointment written all over his face.

He gave her that gun so she could protect herself, not use it against herself.

Allison quickly explained, "Kingsley, this was part of my plan."

Kingsley's expression remained as cold as ever. He looked ready to grab a rifle and hunt down whoever had hurt her.

Allison pouted her lips like a child and said, "The best way to deal with a ticking time bomb... is to set it off before it explodes somewhere else."

Kingsley shook his head in disappointment. "You're making a deal with the demon."

"This is a chess match, Kingsley," Allison replied and shrugged her shoulders.

Kingsley didn't argue anymore. More than anyone else, he knew what that place could do to a person. Even someone completely sane would eventually break after spending years in a mental hospital. Allison had survived there for three years. How could she still see the world the way an ordinary person did?

Anyone who walked out of that place alive had already learned how to play the game.

By taking that shot herself, Allison had planted guilt and fear deep inside Jareth's heart.

The next time he tried to force her, today's events would come back to him. He would remember how she got hurt and how she endured the surgery without anesthesia.

As long as Jareth still cared about her, this way of making herself out to be the victim would continue to work.

So what if he was the king of hell? Even the king of hell had feelings. Even he could become attached to someone.

Allison tilted her head and looked at Kingsley. "Kingsley, did you see the woman at Gardison Residence? Does she look like me?"

Allison wasn't a fool. From the bits and pieces Zoey and Ronan had accidentally revealed, Allison realized there was someone important from Jareth's past.

So she had asked Kingsley to investigate it. After watching the place for nearly half a month, Kingsley finally found Gardison Residence.

A woman was hidden there. She was in a vegetative state, and Jareth visited her on a regular basis.

Kingsley had seen her himself. "She's being kept alive by a ventilator. There's almost no chance she'll ever wake up. She doesn't really look like you, but at first glance, there is a slight resemblance."

Allison nodded. "If Jareth has been treating me as her replacement, then everything finally makes sense."

Why did he care so much about her? Why did he always go out of his way for her? Why did he blame himself every time she got hurt?

It was because he had been projecting his feelings onto her all along.

After figuring that out, Allison suddenly felt much lighter.

Once Kingsley left, she closed her eyes and got some rest.

Meanwhile, Ronan's situation was no better. Following Allison's clue, he found the hospital. But the patient lying in that room turned out to be a young man.

Archer had been hospitalized for more than a month after a car accident. His injuries were severe, and he was still recovering.

Ronan checked his records and learned that Archer was the Berry family's only son.

After disguising himself, he monitored Archer's room for the whole afternoon, but nothing unusual ever took place.

Just as Ronan began to suspect Allison had deliberately sent him on a wild goose chase, laughter drifted out of the staff break room next door.

"What are you so afraid of? Ronan's got that fierce wife keeping an eye on him at home. Do you really think he'll come looking for you? Just focus on taking good care of me. As long as you keep me happy, you'll get plenty in return.”

“I worked so hard just now. My hands and mouth are still sore, and you're still making fun of me."

The moment Ronan heard that familiar voice, his heart sank.

He rushed over and looked through the narrow gap in the door. Inside, a red-haired man sat in a wheelchair.

Standing behind him was Sherrie with her arms wrapped around him from behind. Her hands slipped beneath his collar, and her fingers slowly traced their way down his chest.

"Sherrie!" Ronan roared as he kicked the door open.

The sudden sound made Sherrie jump. Her whole body shook as she hurriedly pulled her hands back. The moment she saw Ronan standing at the door, the color drained from her face.

Why is he here?

Ronan strode over, grabbed Archer by the collar, and yanked him straight out of the wheelchair. "You bastard!" he shouted. "How dare you steal my woman?"

Archer's injuries hadn't fully healed. He crashed hard onto the floor and glared at Ronan with burning anger.

Archer was still badly injured. He looked fierce, but he had no strength left to fight back.

Ronan ignored him completely. He grabbed Sherrie by the throat with one hand and yanked her in front of him.

Sherrie was terrified. She stared at him in shock, then forced herself to calm down, and she quickly explained. "Mr. Ronan, why are you attacking Mr. Archer?"

Ronan's eyes burned with fury. "You shameless woman, Sherrie. How did I never realize you were so good at seducing men?"

Sherrie frowned. "Mr. Ronan, watch your words. We already broke up. You're a married man now. Whoever I'm with has nothing to do with you."

"When did we ever break up? Did I ever agree to it? You think saying we're done makes it real?" Ronan yelled.

"What else was I supposed to do?" Sherrie shot back. "Keep living like a joke while watching you play the perfect husband to Ezra? Do you know what people have been saying about me ever since you got married? I was suspended from the hospital. Even the sales clerks treat me like I'm a beggar. And where were you? Off enjoying your life with Ezra. I gave you everything I had. When everyone abandoned you, I stayed. I even sold my own belongings to help you. And what did I get in return? Ronan, if you couldn't keep your promises, you never should've made them."

As she spoke, tears streamed down her face. She cried without making a scene, looking so heartbroken that anyone watching would believe Ronan had betrayed her over and over again.
