Chapter 306 : Allison Was Shot

Chapter 306 : Allison Was Shot
Jareth could probably knock her over with a single slap. She wouldn't even have the chance to fight back.

Still, nothing was impossible. Oliver quickened his pace and hurried toward Jareth's bedroom.

He raised his hand, ready to knock on the door. Then a loud bang suddenly rang out from inside the room.

Oliver stopped in his tracks. The sound was heavy and sharp. It sounded exactly like...

Oliver swiftly kicked the door open and rushed into the room.

The room was in complete disarray, as if a storm had swept through it.

Allison was sitting on the floor. A gun had fallen beside her.

Jareth remained rooted to the spot a few steps away. There was clear disbelief on his face, and his body was tilted slightly backward.

For a moment, Oliver's mind went blank.

Jareth had been shot. He thought to himself.

He could hardly believe what he was seeing. Allison had actually managed to hurt Jareth. Still, he hurried over, trying to see where Jareth had been wounded.

But Jareth shoved him aside and immediately dropped down in front of Allison, pressing a hand against her abdomen.

Cold sweat covered his forehead. His expression was tense as he lifted his head to look at her.

Allison was breathing hard. She didn't cry out. She didn't make a sound. But her face had turned deathly pale.

Something was clearly wrong.

Only then did Oliver notice it. His eyes dropped to Jareth's hand and saw blood slowly spreading through his fingers where they were pressed against Allison's lower abdomen.

Jareth was trembling all over. He looked as though he had been struck by a bolt of lightning, unable to process what had just happened.

The moment Oliver snapped out of his shock, he immediately called for emergency help.

His mind was in complete chaos. What had happened in this room? Who fired the gun? Had Jareth lost control during the struggle and accidentally hurt Allison?

Jareth stood motionless outside the operating room. His face was expressionless, but beneath that calm exterior, fear was written in his eyes.

"The bullet didn't hit her kidneys. It didn't hit her spleen. She's not going to die." He sounded as though he was stating a fact.

Yet the way he looked at Oliver made it obvious he was waiting for someone to tell him he was right.

Oliver didn't answer. Instead, he asked seriously, "Jareth, what exactly are you thinking?"

What did Allison mean to him?

Even now, Oliver still couldn't figure it out.

Jareth's expression darkened. He clenched his jaw and turned his head away.

Oliver's eyes fell on the hand Jareth kept behind his back. Only then did he realize Jareth was secretly wiping Allison's blood from his fingers.

Inside the operating room, Allison was still awake. Joe bent down and tried to comfort her. "Don't be afraid. We'll give you anesthesia in a moment. The bullet didn't hit any organs. It's only lodged in the flesh. We just need to take it out."

Allison's voice was weak. "Dr. Parker, anesthesia doesn't work on me. It won't help."

Joe went rigid. "What?" Shock flashed across his face immediately.

The operating room door swung open.

Oliver immediately walked over. "How is she?"

"The patient doesn't respond to anesthesia," the nurse replied.

Oliver stood there in shock. He knew exactly what that meant. "So... they're going to cut her open and remove the bullet while she's fully conscious?"

The nurse nodded, then hurried off.

Oliver turned around and saw the complicated expression on Jareth's face.

A moment later, Jareth walked to the operating room door and knocked.

The operating room was off-limits to everyone except medical staff, but Joe still opened the door and allowed Jareth to come. If Jareth was determined to enter, no one there had the authority to stop him.

Since the bullet hadn't struck any vital organs, Allison remained conscious. Joe briefly explained the situation. The injury wasn't fatal, but removing the bullet was going to be extremely painful.

Allison had always been able to endure pain better than most people. No matter how much it hurt, she rarely cried out.

But from time to time, her awareness seemed to drift. Her eyes would suddenly lose focus for a brief moment before slowly clearing again.

Jareth stood beside the operating table and took her hand in his.

Dressed in full surgical gear, Joe made his final preparations. Before starting, he glanced at Jareth.

Jareth's face was unreadable, but there was turmoil beneath the surface that couldn't be hidden. When he noticed Joe staring at him, Jareth curled his lip in a sneer. His bloodshot eyes made him look even more intimidating.

Joe forced himself to focus and began the procedure.

Scalpels, scissors, forceps, one cold metal instrument after another worked into the wound. They cut, searched, and pulled. Every movement brought a fresh wave of pain.

No matter how high Allison's pain tolerance was, she couldn't stay completely silent. A few broken cries slipped from her lips despite her efforts to hold them back.

Her fingers tightened around Jareth's hand, leaving deep marks behind. Even that wasn't enough to dull the pain.

Seeing her bite down so hard on her lip, Jareth moved closer and tried to support her hand with his. However, Allison turned her head away. She didn't want him touching her.

The bullet was finally removed.

A sharp clang echoed through the operating room as it dropped into the metal tray.

Jareth never looked back. Yet the moment he heard the sound, some of the tension left his body, and he slowly let out the breath he had been holding.

Allison had already reached her limit. Only a few moments later, the pain overwhelmed her completely. Her eyes slowly closed, and she lost consciousness.

Once Allison's blood pressure finally stabilized, Joe immediately started stitching the wound.

After a busy stretch of work, the nurses and assisting doctors finished counting the instruments and left the operating room one after another.

Soon, only Joe was left to keep an eye on Allison's condition. He pulled off his gloves and looked toward Jareth, who had stood with his back to everyone the entire time.

"Jareth, Madam really suffered this time," Joe said. "The abdominal cavity is such a small area. If the bullet had entered at a slightly different angle, it could have killed her."

He knew Jareth hated hearing things like this, but he couldn't stop himself.

"No matter how angry you were, you shouldn't have laid a hand on her. She's so small and fragile. Didn't it bother you at all when she got hurt?" Joe briefly stopped, then added, "You probably don't know this, but just a few hours ago, she called me asking how she could help you feel better."
