Chapter 16 She Has Rh-Negative Blood, at Risk of Shock
Evergreen Hospital.
Mia paced back and forth anxiously.
Amelia had Rh-negative blood. When Amelia previously said she wanted to terminate the pregnancy, Mia had suggested she prepare blood beforehand, just in case.
Not much time had passed since then, and the blood supply hadn't been restocked yet.
If they needed blood...
Mia and Amelia had known each other since childhood.
When they were little, they played together all the time.
Mia came from a family of doctors, and she'd picked up a lot of medical knowledge from an early age.
But many things she only knew from books or from what her parents told her - she didn't really understand them deeply.
Until later.
Once, she and Amelia snuck out to play.
She'd always loved thrills, and that time she secretly took a big motorcycle and rode out with Amelia.
A big motorcycle, with the beautiful Amelia riding along - she thought she was so cool.
Then she crashed.
She herself was fine, just scraped a bit, but Amelia got thrown far away and hit a rock. Her leg had a huge gash.
The wound was really big.
Blood everywhere.
She immediately called an ambulance in panic and rushed Amelia to the hospital.
But the wound was too big, and she'd taken Amelia to the suburbs. Even the ambulance took some time to arrive.
By the time they got to the hospital, Amelia had already lost too much blood.
That was the first time she understood what Amelia had told her before about Rh-negative blood.
Rh-negative blood - that small hospital didn't have any in stock.
Watching Amelia go into shock from blood loss.
She cried and called her dad, begging him to save Amelia.
Fortunately, they managed to save Amelia in the end. Mia would remember that for the rest of her life.
Even now, Amelia still had a scar on her leg. Though she'd had cosmetic treatments several times, the wound was too deep and the scar couldn't be completely removed.
Afraid Mia would feel guilty, Amelia took her to a tattoo shop, and they each got tattoos over their scars.
"Amelia..."
Thinking about this, Mia made another round of calls to every contact she knew.
"Yes, it's me, Mia..."
"Yes, I have a pregnant car accident patient who might need it. It's very urgent!"
"Hello, is this the mutual aid society..."
"Yes, better to have several people come. We don't need it yet, but better safe than sorry!"
"Okay, thank you..."
After making several calls and confirming everyone was taking action, Mia felt a bit more at ease.
She still didn't know Amelia's condition, which made her very anxious.
To ease this anxiety, Mia asked the policewoman about what happened.
Learning how the whole thing unfolded, Mia broke out in a cold sweat.
"You're saying someone tried to murder Amelia!"
But who?
Mia's mind raced.
It could be old grudges with the Martinez family.
It could be because Amelia was William's wife, attacked because of the Brown Group.
Even the recent online countdown to Isabella's death was still brewing - extreme individuals might attack Amelia. She'd seen that kind of thing before.
There was also work, daily conflicts, and so on - too many possibilities.
The range was too broad.
...
Inside the emergency room.
Amelia's consciousness was unclear.
She could only vaguely sense what was happening around her.
She could feel someone examining her.
All around were sounds of various instruments.
Metal, machines, making all kinds of noises.
And people talking.
Bits and pieces - she couldn't hear clearly.
She could only vaguely make out words like "bleeding" and "pregnant."
The baby...
Her baby.
Amelia remembered.
Using all her strength, Amelia barely managed to say: "Doctor... please save my baby."
She regretted it.
Before passing out at the police station, that feeling of panic and sadness had almost crushed her.
She used to want the baby because she wanted to have a child with William, a symbol of their love.
Later, when she gave up on William, she gave up on it too.
But these past days, she'd felt the baby existing and growing in her belly.
Gradually, she'd started to hesitate.
Until this time, when she was really about to lose it, she realized...
She was so reluctant, so sad.
This was a child connected to her by blood.
Just like the Rh-negative blood Jasper had passed down to her.
Connected by blood.
This was her child.
Nothing to do with William.
A child that belonged only to her.
She wanted to keep it!
...
William's car drove very fast.
Isabella in the passenger seat could only grip the seatbelt tightly.
She didn't dare say much.
The more she said, the more mistakes she might make. She believed her performance just now was enough.
But William...
Isabella stole a glance at William's profile.
He looked no different than usual, but his tightly pressed lips and his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles turned white betrayed his current emotions.
William still cared about that bitch Amelia!
Isabella looked away, closed her eyes and sat there pretending to be weak, but her mind was racing.
The car quickly arrived at Evergreen Hospital.
William opened the door and got out.
Isabella also quickly opened her door, but as she got out, she "coughed up" blood again.
"I'm fine." Isabella wiped the "blood" from her mouth and said weakly, "I'm dying anyway, William, go see Amelia first."
William's brow furrowed deeply, his eyes full of worry.
But Isabella pushed him toward the hospital.
Acting like she was putting Amelia first despite her own condition.
William's lips pressed into a tight line. Finally, he said: "I'll go check on her first. Take care of yourself."
"Okay." Isabella nodded.
Then she watched William head into the hospital.
Isabella immediately took out her phone and carefully checked the messages.
William walked toward the hospital with big strides. His steps got bigger and faster, until finally he was running.
Even he didn't realize how panicked he was.
After asking for directions and finding Amelia's room, he was about to go in, but was blocked by Mia standing guard at the door.
William's brow furrowed deeply.
"How is she?" William asked.
But Mia didn't answer right away, just looked him up and down suspiciously.
"What's wrong?" William suppressed his irritation and asked patiently.
Mia thought about what the policewoman had told her, and wondered - could William be trying to kill Amelia so he could marry Isabella, afraid Amelia wouldn't divorce him?
Especially since the policewoman had called him so many times from Amelia's phone and he hadn't answered.
But she didn't know how to ask.
Seeing William getting impatient, she finally asked tentatively: "William, do you have to marry Isabella? Can't wait even one day?"
William looked at her: "What do you mean?"
Mia didn't know how to answer.
Seeing Mia still struggling, he couldn't control his anxiety anymore: "Move!"
