Chapter 1089: Treating You Better than Aunt Olivia Did
Sophia shook her head vigorously, her small face filled with helplessness. Just as she was at a loss for what to do, she heard her dad's steady footsteps approaching. Her eyes lit up, and she dashed past Emma and wrapped her arms around Victor's leg.
Victor glanced down at the little girl clinging to him, recalling Emma's earlier words of apology. "I know you want Sophia to forgive you, but that's not something that can be achieved overnight. There's no need for such extreme measures."
He cast a serious look at Emma, who was still squatting on the floor.
Feigning a bitter smile, Emma lowered her voice. "I'm sorry. I got impatient again. I just..."
Before she could finish, Victor interrupted her with a firm voice, "It's getting late. Let's go down for dinner."
Emma looked up at Victor in disbelief. He was already taking Sophia's hand, turning to head downstairs. Watching their retreating figures, Emma found herself momentarily stunned. If it weren't for Sophia's presence, she would almost have thought their relationship had reverted to six or seven years ago when Victor had been so intent on marrying her while still harboring disdain for Olivia...
After waiting for a long time, no one came to call her back upstairs. Gradually, Emma gathered her thoughts and faced reality, silently making her way down.
Downstairs, Victor had already seated himself with Sophia at the dining table. Given their demeanor, Emma realized that if she hadn't come down herself, Victor likely wouldn't have had anyone call her for dinner. The only evidence that she hadn't been imagining things was an extra set of cutlery laid out on the table.
Clenching her fists, Emma adjusted her emotions before smiling and sitting beside them. "I wonder what Sophia likes to eat. I can learn to make it."
At the sound of her voice, Sophia instinctively scooted closer to her dad. Emma felt a flicker of annoyance but quickly suppressed her emotions. "Aunt Emma is a great cook. I promise you'll like what I make, Sophia!"
Victor furrowed his brows slightly. "Sophia, Aunt Emma is talking to you."
Only when her father spoke did Sophia lift her gaze to Emma. In a soft voice, she quietly replied, "No."
The little girl's voice was so faint that Emma didn't catch it at first. Smiling, she prodded, "What did you say, Sophia?"
"I don't want to eat Aunt Emma's food!" Sophia exclaimed, her eyes wide with defiance.
After saying that, she turned to Victor, clutching his shirt with a pitiful expression. "Sophia wants to eat what Aunt Olivia makes."
The mention of Olivia caused both adults to change their expressions in unison.
Emma clenched her teeth, a flash of coldness crossing her eyes as she cautiously looked at Victor. He had always been soft-hearted towards Sophia. She had been waiting for Victor to give up on Olivia, and he finally made up his mind! If this little brat's words caused Victor to change his mind...
Fortunately, Victor's face remained visibly cold, and his tone was icy as well. "There is no Aunt Olivia anymore. From now on, Aunt Emma will treat you better than Aunt Olivia ever did."
Hearing this, Emma let out a silent sigh of relief and quickly chimed in with a smile, "Your dad is right! From now on, you can tell Aunt Emma anything you want, and I'll make sure you have it. If you're feeling unwell, you can let Aunt Emma know, and I'll take care of you. We don't need Aunt Olivia anymore, okay?"
