FURY

FURY
“I need to see Cage!” Cash’s voice cracked in panic as he leaned against the wall trying to steady himself, his hands were trembling uncontrollably.

He was spiraling into full-blown panic mode, every muscle in his body was taut, and every breath ragged.

“What for?” I asked, eyes narrowing as I studied him carefully.

He breathed heavily, chest heaving, and raked his fingers through his hair, yanking at the strands in frustration. “I… I don’t know…”

“Cash, you will not meet him in this state,” I said firmly, my tone clipped but calm.

My mind was wheeling with every possible reason as to why Cage would murder such an innocent man like his lover, but I tried to stay rational for Cash’s sake.

He shook his head violently, voice shaking. “No… no… no…”

“Cash, you need to calm down,” I said, stepping closer.

“He killed him,” he muttered, his words were barely audible, but raw with accusation.

I lowered my voice, keeping it even. “I know, but you need to calm down and let us figure this murder out…”

“I warned him about Cage…” Cash’s words came over me, frantic, chaotic and drowning my words out. “I warned him… Cage killed him, Isabel…”

I took a step closer, forcing myself to speak gently. “Breathe, sweetheart. Just breathe.”

“I can’t…” he whispered, shaking, and before I could stop him, his hand went to the holster of a passing officer.

Cash stole his gun, our eyes widened in shock at his moved while he backed away from us.

“You do not want to do that, sir…” the officer was saying but Cash looked like he was in his own world of revenge.

“I’m going to kill him,” he muttered, the cold edge in his voice making my stomach twist, and then with one sharp turn he was off, sprinting away from the crime scene with the gun clutched tightly in his hand.

The police officer yelled and ran after him but Cash was faster.

“Cash!” I shouted, panic clawing at my chest as the officer altered his colleagues.

This was not good.

By the time I slid into the car, Cash turned the ignition, and I slammed the door shut, the police officers were already calling after him and getting into patrol cars to chase after us.

“You are going to catch a charge if you don’t stop this car and return that gun!” I yelled in Cash’s angry face.

But he was gripping the steering wheel with white-knuckled hands, his focus on the road. “I won’t. Cage and Carl won’t let me go to jail,” he snapped, eyes wild.

I shook my head, almost in disbelief, but also with grim acceptance.

Well, well, look at him using what he had to his advantage.

I buckled my seatbelt and fell silent, already bracing myself for the storm that was about to hit.

“Okay,” I muttered under my breath, as Cash floored the car and sped toward Cage’s mansion.

At Cage’s mansion, a gloomy atmosphere hung heavy over the estate.

The sky was gray, clouds looming like a warning, shadows stretching unnaturally across the manicured lawn.

Inside, Clara stood by the window, her back rigid and arms folded, dressed impeccably as always, black pants, a crisp white shirt, and her hair slicked back with meticulous precision.

“Clara, move all my appointments till next week,” Cage suddenly entered and disrupted her peace.

“I need some alone time. I’ve been stressed… exhausted, really.” He said with a crack of his neck, taking the short second to stretch his muscles.

Even in the quiet of his own home, there was an aura of dominance about him, the kind that demanded power and control.

Like last night.

Clara didn’t answer. Her eyes remained fixed on the pool, where Paxton usually lounged, basking in the sun and laughing at her teasing.

But today… the chair was empty.

“Didn’t you hear what I said?” Cage asked, voice tinged with irritation.

“Paxton is dead,” Clara said flatly, her tone chilling, her eyes never leaving the empty pool.

Cage’s brow furrowed, “I know” but he didn’t move. “I’m grieving, that’s why I need you to move my appointments…”

She spun on him, with an icy glare icy. “How did he die?”

From annoyance, Cage’s face morphed into fury.

“What kind of stupid question is that?” Cage snapped, stepping closer. His voice had a sharp edge, one that rarely tolerated interruptions and accusing questions.

Before Clara could reply, the front door slammed open with a violent crash. “Come out you sadistic fucker!”

Cash stormed in, gun swinging loosely at his side, Isabel close behind him, eyes carefully assessing the situation.

Cash’s gaze landed on Clara first. “Where is he?” His voice was desperately sharp, trembling with anger.

Without a word, Clara’s eyes flicked toward Cage, who stood at the other end of the living room, calm, and very clearly unbothered.

“Cage!” Cash yelled in a raw and hoarse voice. “What did you do to him?!”

“Who?” Cage asked casually, taking a step forward.

“Don’t act stupid, Cage. Why did you kill him?” Cash’s voice cracked, his rage spilling over.

“What? Who? Who died?” Cage asked again, confusion—or feigned confusion—etched across his face.

“Paxton Gregory. Your lover,” Clara interjected coldly, her voice cutting through the tension like a knife.

She’d spent forty minutes crying in the bathroom when she heard of Paxton’s death, and she would want more than nothing to see the poor man get justice.

Cage’s eyes snapped toward her, a nasty glare flashing across his features. “I don’t know what happened to him,” he said, almost lazily, but the weight behind his words carried a subtle menace.

“You shameless, two-faced weasel!” Cash roared and advanced towards his brother, gun raised and aimed at Cage’s face.

“Cash, put the gun down,”  Cage said quickly, hands raised in what looked like mock surrender.

“Why should I?” Cash shot back, his voice was rising, fury in every syllable. “When your mouth is filled with nothing but rot!”

“Put the gun down and let us talk,” Cage tried again, voice stern but holding a calm edge, trying to lessen through the commotion.

“No! Don’t tell me what to do, you soulless serpent!” Cash screamed, fresh tears filled his eyes as the disfigured face of Paxton flashed through his mind.

He tried to blink them away “How could you do this?” But his voice broke “I’m going to kill you”

Cage didn’t move, but his lips curled slightly at the corners, an expression almost like amusement. “You’re trembling, Cupcake. You think your little gun gives you power over me? In my own house?”
