Chapter 32 GUN TO THE HEAD
CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO | GUN TO THE HEAD
LYRA
If anyone told me Anika would push me down the window, I would never have believed it. The plan was to slowly walk down, yet she pushed me with no hesitation.
As I tumbled down, I felt betrayed and so hurt that my chest hurt. I really thought she had changed. I should never have trusted her.
I knew I wasn't going to survive the fall, so I didn't bother resisting. I simply closed my eyes and awaited death. But death didn't come. Instead of falling to my death, I fell on a firm trampoline.
The best part was that I fell so softly, that it felt like I was placed on a soft bed like a fragile egg. Too scared to open my eyes, I wondered if this was only a fragment of my imagination and, in reality, I had gone to the throne of the moon goddess.
But the next second, I felt a heavy body land right next to me. It took me a while to realize that I didn't land on the floor like I expected; I had landed on a trampoline, and Anika came right after me.
I was relieved that she wasn't trying to kill me, but that relief was short-lived when I heard the unmistakable sound of Damian yelling out my name.
I knew for a fact that we had been caught, and there's no way in hell we would be escaping them, not in their territory.
Anika hastily helped me off the trampoline, dragging me down and holding my hands. She wanted to bolt, but it was already too late; the twins had already gotten up with us.
Damian tried to plead with Anika to let me go, but she refused. Then Damien stepped in and threatened to kill her.
I was about to walk towards them willingly and convince them to let her go since I was the reason she came into the pack in the first place.
I didn't want anything to happen to her, and I didn't want them thinking she was kidnapping me when I was willingly going with her.
“It's fine. They won't hurt you. I'll make sure you're safe, even if it means being stuck with these monsters for the rest of my life.” I whispered to Anika, my breath harsh and uneven due to the adrenaline rush from the fall.
I took a step forward to meet the brothers, but she pulled me back without hesitation. “Don't move an inch.” She whispered in my ear.
She was probably going against them because she had no idea how dangerous the twins could be. Maybe she thinks they'll let her go because she's my sister. If only she had seen a flicker of the danger they represent.
“I have to go, Anika. They would never let us leave. They have snipers all around the area. One move, and you'll be dead. They might need me, but they don't need you and they won't hesitate to kill you.”
Yet, despite my explanation, Anika didn't move an inch. She stayed rooted to the ground like she was under a command to not move.
I took another step, but this time, she didn't pull me back. She held a gun to my head. Not just any gun, but the same gun I had given her a few moments ago.
“What are you doing?” I froze, swallowing as I tried to turn around.
She held my head firmly, using her height as an advantage to overpower me and keep my head exactly the way she wanted.
“Do not fucking move or I shoot you.” She whispered into my ears, her voice cold and void of emotions.
Colour drained from my face as the realization that I had been too trusting hit me. How stupid could I have been to think that my sister, who had hated me all her life, someone who wouldn't hesitate to take my life if she was given the chance, would suddenly change and become a good person.
People don't change that easily, and I was so foolish to think she would be different.
“Let her go, Anika. And maybe we would let you go too.” Damian tried to persuade her, but it only angered her.
“Shut the fuck up. If you move, I'll pull the trigger. If you do anything funny, your precious mate would die like the worthless slut she is.”
I was too stunned to speak. I silently stood there, tears running down my eyes. I don't know why shit always happens to me. Maybe I was unfortunately cursed or was a serial killer in my former life.
Damien stepped forward, his eyes practically shooting daggers at Anika. If he could, he would have murdered her now. “Let go of her. We'll go easy on you if you let her go. You can't get away with this madness.”
Anika laughed, her hollow laugh traveling through the silence of the night sky. It was like everything that happened in a horror movie before the death of a character. Maybe a laugh of death, goddess knows.
“I don't care if I die, as long as I'm taking Lyra with me, I'll die a happy woman. All my life, she has taken everything I wanted. From beauty, to attention, to the brain, to a hot body. Everything I knew I lacked greatly was given to her on a golden platter. She doesn't deserve them. I do. Why should she get everything while I'm known as the less pretty one? Why?” Her voice trembled as she spoke.
She moved backwards, taking me with her, but stopping once she reached a part of the road. “Tell your men to drop their weapons. Tell them all to drop their fucking snipers. You might hit your precious Lyra while trying to hit me.” She laughed.
The twins knew they couldn't take the risk, so they told their men to drop their weapons.
Anika was going to leave with me today, and heaven knows what manner of hell I'd experience before she kills me.
“What do you plan to do with her?” Damian asked as Anika kept directing me out of the pack.
They followed us closely, keeping their distance so that she wouldn't kill me.
She didn't respond and kept urging me forward until we got to the boundary. Once she crosses, they'll have little to no chance of saving me again.
“Maybe I'll sell her. There's a bounty on her head, isn't there.”
She was about to cross when Damien stopped her. “2 billion. I'll give you two billion dollars to let her go.”
