Chapter 31 TRAMPOLINE

Chapter 31 TRAMPOLINE

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE | TRAMPOLINE

DAMIAN

After Lyra’s strange attitude, we were forced to leave her room. Since we were terrified of the possibility that someone might be there with her and was forcing her to lie that she was safe when she wasn't, we decided that it was best for us to stay outside her room instead of leaving.

Damien left after a few minutes of silence, claiming that he had paperwork, but I knew he was lying. He only wanted to leave to escape the consequences of being close to Lyra.

After the night of Orion's arrival, he had changed a lot. A lot of things had shifted in his life, and I couldn't even start to explain how detrimental it had been to his health. It still felt crazy how he was able to stay sane despite everything.

He was risking it all for Lyra's protection, and I could only hope that one day, she would understand just how far he had gone for her and how much he was willing to do for her.

Until then, we had no choice but to find a way to break the curse, no matter what happened.

I found myself still sitting at the edge of her room like a creep, so I went ahead to the pack garage. A smile was on my face when I sighted it. A red car for Lyra, the best of its kind.

Damien had ordered one to be brought an hour after she told us she wanted one. We were going to hand it to her as a gift tomorrow morning.

"She would love it," I said as I ran my hands over the car, the smooth and flawless texture making me gush.

Suddenly, I heard a voice from a short distance. Due to my ultrasonic hearing, I was able to easily pick up the sound. It was slow and low, shaky, as if the speaker was terrified. The wind carried the person's voice so much that I could barely hear anything.

I knew it could not be any of the servants. None of them dared to show up here after their curfew. They knew the rules well enough. Which meant it was an intruder.

I sneaked up on the person, hoping to catch them off guard so that they wouldn't have a chance to run away or take their own life. We had various cases of moles shooting themselves in the head or taking poison before we could get to them. I didn't need history repeating itself again.

I followed the place the voice was coming from, and it led me nowhere in particular. At a point, the person had stopped speaking, and I had no lead anymore.

"Had I heard wrong?" I asked myself after a few minutes of complete silence.

Just when I thought no one was there and it was just a fragment of my imagination, I caught a sight that almost made me scream like a madman.

It was Lyra, and she was holding on to the window for her dear life. The reflection of the moon shone right on the face of the person inside, and it was Anika, Lyra's evil sister.

My heart leaped to my throat at the sight, and I would have flown to the window to help Lyra if I could, but I couldn't. I was frozen in shock, and no matter how hard I tried to think, no solution came to my mind.

At that moment, Anika spotted me under the moonlight, standing at a distance. Our eyes clashed, silent tension exchanged between us. We didn't need to say much before we both understood that someone was going to get hurt today, and by the look on Anika's face, she would do everything to make sure she wasn't the one.

She smirked at me, and that was all it took for me to start running toward her like my life depended on it. I guess it did. Lyra was my mate, my life.

I opened the mindlink, connecting with my brother. "What?" his voice invaded my head, making me lose focus for a few seconds and tumble over a tree branch.

"Lyra is in danger. Her sister is here. I think she is trying to kill her by throwing her off the building."

The link was closed before I could get a response from him, but I knew for a fact that he was on his way here.

I locked eyes on Anika for a moment, getting closer to the bottom of the window, hoping Lyra could hold on till I got there to catch her.

The world around me slowed down when Anika suddenly pushed an unsuspecting Lyra off the window. My heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest as I watched her fall from the first floor of the building.

She was never going to survive the fall, especially not when she was pregnant.

I leapt into the air and transformed into my wolf form, running faster even though I knew it was useless. Fate had already been sealed.

Hastily, Anika jumped from the window too. At first, I thought it was because Damien had shown up, but when I looked closer, I saw a trampoline at the bottom of the window.

My howl broke through the silence of the night, relieved that Lyra was alright.

But my joy was short-lived. Anika helped Lyra off the trampoline before pulling out a gun from a bag.

"Don't move." She yelled, her eyes twinkling under the moon.

"Let her go, Anika." I shifted back to my werewolf form, ignoring the fact that I was stark naked right now.

All I cared about was making sure that Lyra was safe. Right now, I could care less if my body was burning. As long as Lyra was safe, I would be a happy man.

Damien came out at that same time, the color draining from his face when he saw the scene before him. He stood next to me, his body stiff and guarded.

"Please, let her go, Anika. We would give you anything you want. Just name your price." I pleaded.

Unlike me, Damien wasn't one to beg. He never begged, and he wasn't planning on starting now.

"You are in our territory. You can't leave here alive. Maybe if you leave, I will make your death painless."
