Chapter 38: Funeral
~Tricia
"Tricia!" Jaffy immediately greeted me when I arrived at our classroom. Everyone in here is buzzing about something.
They're all talking.
"She's really poor, isn't she?" Someone stated.
"I had no idea that would happen to her." Someone else chimed in.
"I hope justice will be served fairly in her death."
Tsk, they're obviously talking about Cheska's death. That serves her right. First, she kidnapped me, second, she's a member of the mafia royal, and lastly, he's the daughter of that bastard's so-called friend.
"Tricia, do you know what happened to that witch Cheska? May her soul find peace." When he said her name, he made the sign of the cross, as I sat between him and Miette.
"Yes, girl, even though I'm mad at that slut, I can't imagine something like that happened to her." Miette chimed in.
"Yes, I heard about the news. Even I find it hard to believe it." I innocently stated, laughing mentally. Oh, if only they knew I killed her. They might have cursed me already.
"Dean announced earlier that after our first period class, all Ed. Department students will attend to Cheska's funeral."
"Girl, she's not going to haunt us with her ghost, is she? I mean, she doesn't like us, and we're always picking fights with her." Miette fearfully said. That ghost thing isn't real.
From the number of people I've killed, no one has yet to haunt me. I can even walk through the cemetery by myself in the middle of the night.
"Are you two going?" I inquired, changing the subject.
"Of course, we can at least apologize, right? Besides, everyone was obligated to go.” Miette responded, I just let out an audible 'oh' as a response.
I notice Seth is still not here. They are my classmate in this subject, and class will begin any minute now. Maybe those three are absent again.
That's a good thing, because I won't be forced to be nice to that jerk. I'm not sure what he was thinking or what bug got into his head to make him come up with that stupid deal.
That victory didn’t last though. Speaking of the devil, the door opens and the three of them enter.
My classmates, as usual, pause for a moment and stare at them. The girls looking at Seth hungrily, if only I could stab their eyes one by one.
Wait, why am I angry? Relax Isla, relax. You’re not getting jealous okay.
Seth's gaze quickly scans the room and lands on mine. His face brightens and he flashes a sweet smile that makes him even more gorgeous. My female classmates immediately shriek at the same time, as did Miette and Jaffy, though I'm sure Miette is swooning over Axhton.
Seth walks over to my place and leans down to kiss me on the forehead, which is all he can kiss with all this stuff covering my face.
"Sweet cake, good morning." He greeted, suddenly the surroundings became quiet and they just stared at us.
Fuck! Not again with that stupid pet names please? I know he’s only doing that to tease the hell out of me.
Please, ground, swallow me whole. My cheeks heat up, and thanks to my mask, they won't see my tomato red face.
"Uhh.” I cleared my throat to get rid of the lump that had formed inside it. “... morning." I awkwardly greeted him, and then he trailed down to their seats as if nothing had happened.
"Good morning, everyone." Miette nudges me with her elbow as our prof enters, taking us back to planet Earth.
"Your fiancée is so sweet, girl... I'd never seen him smile like that before!" She squeals next to me.
"You owe us an explanation later, bitch." Jaffy chimed in.
The class went by faster than I expected. We're heading down to the parking lot since we're now on our way to Cheska's funeral. Seth is nowhere to be found, as are Axhton and Raynel. Where have they gone?
Jezz, why should I be concerned about their whereabouts when they are old enough to look after themselves?
"Are you with us, Tricia?" Jaffy asked after we had exited the building, and I had only recently noticed the black tarpaulin placed on top. 'JUSTICE FOR CHESKA VILLA SAMONTE,' it says.
"Yeah." I replied timidly, and we got in Jaff's car, and I cursed myself for going with them because the moment we got in, they bombarded me with how and why questions.
So, I ended up telling them how Seth became my fiancée. From the dinner down to the marriage arrangement made by our dear parents.
We arrived at St. Monica Chapel, where Cheska's funeral was held, in less than ten minutes. The place is packed with people, the majority of whom are Hill University's students and faculties.
We take some white roses from the entrance vase and proceed to Cheska's white and gold casket. We place the rose above her close casket and send our condolences to her family before settling into the back seat. That's all that's left vacant, so we're just simply sitting there.
It's strange for me to sympathize with them, knowing that I'm the one who killed Cheska. It's a good thing I'm pretty good at acting, because my actions are fairly convincing. With this, I could even win an Oscar.
After a long hour of listening to the priest's homily and her family's cries about her untimely death, I felt like the comfort room was calling my name. So I excused myself and went to the ladies' restroom.
I wash my hand and exit after peeing. I was walking back to the function hall when I heard a familiar voice speaking not far from where I was standing.
I followed it, and it led me to the back of the building. I noticed Cheska's father conversing with a man dressed in a black tuxedo. I couldn't see his face because he turned his back on me, and based on his physical appearance, he resembled my father, but I knew from his voice that he wasn't. If I hadn't known any better, I would have believed it was my father. I quickly hide behind the chapel's connecting wall and listen in on their conversation.
I got close enough to hear them clearly.
"Master, she murdered my only daughter." Cheska's father stated grimly.
"I know." He sternly responded. I quickly recognize his voice. That is the same voice as the man who had called me.
That's the bastard I'm looking for.
"She also took your right hand, Henna. How is it possible that my men can't even scratch him, and that little wench bested him like it was nothing?"
"Don't underestimate her strength. I created her, and I know every cell that runs from her body." The bastard said. Hearing his voice makes every fiber in my body tense.
I knew they were talking about me, my rage slowly seeping inside me, to the point where I hadn't realized my hands had curled into a ball and my nails were digging into my palms.
"It is your fault that your daughter died. You didn't tell her who she'd be up against. You just allow her to do work that she is not supposed to do."
Cheska has been given the order to kidnap me without knowing who I am. I thought she did it because she fostered a grudge against me because she wants Seth for herself.
That's it!
This is the right time to face that bastard.
My mind went numb and my vision went black. The only thing that ran through my mind was the thought of killing that piece of shit without thinking about the consequences.
I was about to move where I was and attack him when someone yanked me back and hugged me tightly from behind, bringing me back to my senses.
"Isla, no."
