54. Beyond Control

Still deep in worry, Luca checked a few emails to continue his work. He had come to America to see his old love, Catharina Sophie. But he wasn't just in love. Luca also had work to do in America.

He asked his staff to find him American clients so that while he waited for Catharina to get back to him, Luca could work on his business, although to be honest, his mind was a little distracted.

"Hello?" Luca greeted someone on the other side. "Yes. I'm Luca from 00 Interior."

"Where can I meet you?" he jotted down the address on a piece of paper. His eyes, which had been sparkling with enthusiasm, slowly faded.

"So, the suegro on your phone... is my dad?"

Jonathan did not respond. He just ended up staring at his wife with his trademark cold stare. Cathy didn't even need an answer because she already knew where she was going. She just couldn't believe the situation she was in.

"If you want to see your father. Then, don't do anything silly," Jonathan advised.

Cathy grinned. "I knew it. I was right. You don't know how my father is!"

"All right. You can meet him. But only after your wounds have healed. You can't even walk properly." Jonathan gave her a choice.

"No! I want to see her now!"

"If you remain stubborn, I'll hurt you, Catharina!" growled Jonathan as Cathy walked towards the door handle.

Cathy turned around, staring at her husband with a look full of hurt, sadness, and fear. "You know what? Michael Sanders even dared to kill his father to continue his forbidden love with his stepmother. Then, he could also kill his son. He could kill me, Jonathan!"

Cathy's tears fell again. "I've always lived with worry! I only pretend to be tough to cover up my weakness. And I think you understand that after almost a month of living together."

Jonathan pulled her into a hug. "Don't worry! I'm right here. Everything will be fine. Trust me!"

Cathy's body trembled along with the many fears and confusion she was experiencing while her fingers began to tremble from the increasingly agonizing pain in her bullet wound.

"Argh!" Cathy could only scream in pain. She could no longer describe what it felt like even though she had experienced something more painful that she almost let go.

Everything Cathy had experienced up to this point was extremely painful. She almost went crazy.

Jonathan held his wife's shoulders. "I told you not to worry. The one who shot you is most likely Spanish."

Wincing in pain, Cathy continued, "And it could have been my father."

"We just need to wait for my men to catch the woman. You can also recover first." Jonathan guided Cathy to sit on the sofa.

"What?" Cathy was startled. "A woman?"

"Yes. The suspect is a Spanish woman," Jonathan said. "Why are you surprised? You're also a woman who likes to kill. So, what's the difference?"

Cathy suddenly couldn't recognize herself. So, that's probably why some people out there couldn't catch her. Aside from her killing ability, Cathy was also a woman who was rarely suspected.

"Experience teaches many things," Jonathan added. "I can read the situation because of your presence, Cathy."

"I've watched the CCTV recording over and over again. But I didn't find anything suspicious. After remembering my wife's identity, I understood," he continued.

"But I don't care. I have to see him!" Cathy insists.

"Hey! Why are you so hard to warn!" Jonathan ruffled his feathers. "Then, what do you want to do if meet your dad? Do you want to kill him?"

This time, Jonathan couldn't contain his emotions. He rubbed the back of his neck as his anger boiled over. "Cathy, I don't want to hurt you. But you keep being stubborn!"

Jonathan glared at his wife. "Stay here or I'll shoot you in the leg if you persist!"

"I don't care." Cathy stood up as if in defiance.

"I'm not kidding either!" Jonathan hissed. His hand moved behind him to retrieve the gun.

Cathy grinned when she saw it. "Just do it!"

Jonathan, who had lost his temper, grinned as he pulled the trigger. But his grip on the gun was so strong, signaling that it was difficult for him to shoot his wife while Cathy was getting defiant.

Cathy leaned closer until the tip of the gun touched her forehead. "Just shoot!"

"Cath..."

Jonathan's words were cut short as the gun slipped from his hand. He didn't expect Cathy to still have time to do that. Quickly, the woman with the blush red lips kicked the gun away, then tied Jonathan up with the curtain rope that had been in her pocket. She kept it just in case.

"I won't run. I'll make sure I come back for you, baby." Cathy gave Jonathan a firm peck on the lips, then waltzed out of the room after retrieving her husband's gun from the floor and the patient's dress.

"Damn it!" grumbled Jonathan, then chuckled.

He struggled to jerk his hands-free. Then he stared at the tightly closed door of the room while grumbling in annoyance. His anger was about to boil over. But it was all muffled when his cell phone vibrated.

Jonathan turned on the speaker mode.

"Sir, your wife is out of the hospital room!"

"I know that. Leave her alone!"

Jonathan was already at the point of being overwhelmed by Cathy. That woman was unpredictable. She was crying so much that Jonathan felt sorry for her and wanted to be by her side. But, suddenly acting impulsively like this. Cathy was out of her mind.

Cathy came out of the bathroom wearing a plain dress for hospital patients. She felt the leather pants were too tight and tormented her wound stitches while carrying her second cell phone. She turned them on.

She was dumbfounded when Luca called her dozens of times. Cathy wanted to call back, but it wasn't the right time. She decided to plan for that later. Cathy rushed down the elevator, but by the time she got out. Her eyes were rippling. She froze for a long time as she found a familiar figure on the other side.

The blue-eyed man was equally dumbfounded. They stared at each other amongst the many people who passed by in front of them with their confusion.

"Luca?"

"Catharina?"
