53. The Ridiculousness

"Shit!" Luca cursed when he kept getting no response from Cathy.

The man with the blue eyes had contacted Cathy repeatedly. He'd also sent her a text message telling her not to go out in such a tense situation, but she'd ignored him.

Luca blew out one breath quite roughly. "That's right. Cathy is probably at her husband's side. Why should I be that worried about her?"

"But what if she's not?" Luca was suddenly agitated by imagining all sorts of other things.

He opened his cell phone. He reread the news about the shooting at the lavish wedding of one of the Beltz family heirs.

"I hope Cathy wasn't at the hotel," he continued to hope.

Meanwhile, in the VVIP room, the two couples were still staring at each other. Even Jonathan's hand grasped Cathy's shoulder tightly, squeezing her.

"You're my wife, so you're my responsibility!"

At first, glaring in protest, Cathy winced in pain as she felt stinging in her stomach. She lowered her head slightly while holding on to Jonathan as she closed her eyes, swallowing her saliva. Her throat felt dry. It was painful.

"I-I'm not okay." Cathy removed her hand from Jonathan. "But I want to solve the problems I've created."

"Now, do you understand the faux pas you made?"

"Yes. I admit it," Cathy said firmly. "Then don't hold me back. I want to resolve it."

"Stay out of it!" Cathy screamed as Jonathan held her back again. Her scream was also her way of sowing stinging wounds on her body.

"You're a fool, too! What a fool!" scolded Jonathan. "You're going to meet your enemy in this state?" The look in his eyes was fierce. "Then you will die instantly!"

"If that's necessary. I have no problem!"

Jonathan laughed. "You'd better lie down on the train tracks if you just want to give your enemy a life! What a loser!"

Cathy turned her face away from Jonathan. Her eyes were glazed over. Her face was flushed. A whole host of feelings had been mixed up in her mind. Her clenched hands began to be drenched in sweat along with the throbbing pain in her stomach.

Cathy hated being sick. Cathy hated being confined to the hospital. And all that had happened after Cathy had dealt with Jonathan. What a pain in the ass.

"Catharina, listen to me!" Jonathan lowered his head slightly to reach his wife's beautiful eyes. "I can't stand to see my wife looking for danger out there. You have me, Catharina." He pleaded while getting tired.

Cathy closed her eyes for a moment. Then, she looked at her husband's handsome face, which was beginning to wither. The bags under his eyes.

"I don't want to trouble anyone. Including you, Jonathan. I do." Tears slid slowly down her cheeks.

"You're not the only one angry at that asshole. Besides, we still don't know who was behind the shooting." Jonathan tried to be understanding. "It could have come from you or me."

Cathy kept staring into Jonathan's black eyes, which held a hint of sincerity, but he seemed unwilling to accept any sweet gestures. Cathy wiped away her tears.

"I wish I had killed you at the beginning of our marriage. None of this would have happened. I wouldn't have been stalked!"

"You're blaming me?"

Cathy shook her head. "I'm blaming myself. Why I was too trusting to keep an eye on you in the first place? I shouldn't have done that."

Cathy felt terrible. Usually, every time she got a mission, she was always merciless. Even the first mission to kill Jonathan was like that. It's just that in the middle of the mission trip. There are so many unexpected things.

Start from the fact that Jonathan is the biological brother of his best friend. Cathy also took his feelings. She felt that Jonathan was not a suitable target to kill even though he was cruel.

The many events made Cathy continue to buy time to find the truth, which until now has become even more complicated and indecipherable.

Even Jonathan doesn't respond to anything. He was also tired. He just looked at his wife, who was wiping tears repeatedly.

Jonathan hoped that Cathy would wake up in a calm state. Jonathan could welcome her warmly, kiss her forehead, and then hug her tightly, sowing the longing and worry that had been held back.

But everything was beyond prediction. What happened instead was like this.

On the one hand, Jonathan appreciated Cathy's tough mentality, full of ambition. But on the other hand, Jonathan also understood that Cathy sometimes acted ridiculously out of control like this as an outlet for her fears and worries.

After all, Cathy was just an ordinary woman. The same thing happened to Jonathan. The cruel man was also an ordinary man who wanted to be relied upon by his woman.

"I strongly suspect Elion or even Geek. I suspect they are involved with my client." Cathy's tone shook slightly. Then she looked up, staring at Jonathan, who was much taller than her. "That night. No!" She corrected. "In the pre-dawn, you found me between the hotel and the alley."

"I saw Elion. Then, nearby I also saw my father," he continued. "I think he was watching me. Here!"

Jonathan could see the fear in his wife. It was an expression he hadn't seen since his dealings with the hitman.

"I know you do." Cathy swallowed her saliva. "I lied to you about my identity. I didn't grow up in an orphanage but I was raised by a mobster."

"Therefore, my father can do anything," she continued worriedly.

Then they looked at each other. Jonathan's gaze was calm yet unreadable.

"I know your father."

"Of course. You must know everything about me." Cathy wiped away the tears roughly.

"He didn't."

Cathy chuckled. "How can you speak that confidently? You don't know anything about him!"

"I know him!" Jonathan gave her a stern look. "I know your father very well."

Cathy's eyes fluttered, her forehead creased. What was this again?

"Wh-What?"

"I know him very well."

Cathy still couldn't believe the situation. "Don't be ridiculous! If you know him, then you'll know what kind of person he is. How cruel he is! No! I don't think he's human."

Jonathan casually put both hands into his pants pockets. "I worked with him back in Cervera."

Cathy guessed. "S-So... is the father-in-law contact on your phone... is my father?"
