Chapter 14
She asked me with a serious tone, "What are your true intentions with Alpha Damien?"
Her question made my heart race with nervousness. I sensed her doubt towards me, but I didn't let it show. Instead, I mustered a smile and replied, "Why do you ask?"
"If you're not serious about Alpha Damien, then just leave him to me. I feel like you're toying with him, using your beauty to manipulate and hurt him," she responded seriously.
Her words made me swallow hard. It felt like she was insinuating something deeper or maybe it hit a nerve because it held some truth. Nevertheless, I gathered my courage and retorted, "How can you accuse me of playing with him? And who are you to question me like that?"
"You're just a poor girl dreaming of possessing the Alpha. I'm sorry, but I'm more beautiful than you," I added sarcastically, accompanied by a smirk.
I could see the anger in her eyes, and she made a move to slap me. Instinctively, I blocked her hand and held onto her arm tightly. I could hear the wolf inside her growling.
"Go ahead, try it. Experience the wrath of an Alpha," I taunted her with a smile.
She forcefully pulled her hand back just as Alpha Damien arrived. I approached him, reaching out to touch his muscular arm. It was evident that this woman was consumed by jealousy as I witnessed how Alpha Damien treated me like his queen. Alpha Damien seemed surprised and curious about the situation.
"What's happening here?" Alpha Damien inquired.
"Why don't you ask her, Alpha?" I responded with a smile.
"Jemma, do you have something to say?" he asked, filled with curiosity.
"Uhmm, nothing, Alpha. I was just asking Crema when she plans to accept you as her mate. I can't wait to witness your mating," Jemma lied.
The girl left the room after Alpha Damien's words.
I assured Alpha Damien that there would be no conflict between Jemma and me. My mission is more important than seeking revenge.
"I might have to bid farewell, Alpha," I said.
"I'll accompany you," he replied with a smile.
I accepted his offer. Martha and I bid each other goodbye, and as we walked down the corridor, I thought of suggesting a walk in the forest. However, he declined and suggested going to the Tower instead. We agreed and made our way to the quiet and peaceful Tower. The cold air brushed against my skin, but the warmth of the wine I sipped was more comforting.
"Dylan is incredibly fortunate. When he first laid eyes on Romania, he knew she was his mate. Romania reciprocated his feelings, and they became mates instantly," he remarked.
"Are you implying something?!" I asked firmly.
"No, I just wanted to share how lucky he was. Their love is pure and genuine, and I aspire to experience such love. I believe I can only find it with you. All I have to do is wait," he replied with a smile.
"Not everything is as it seems. One cannot trust someone at first glance. There are many deceivers and pretenders out there," I stated firmly.
"You're correct, but I believe their love is genuine, especially now that they can read each other's minds. The way Dylan gazes at her is akin to how I look at you. Their actions speak the truth," he said seriously, flashing a smile.
"Can you discern if someone is genuine with you?" he inquired.
"Yes, but why do you ask, Amelia?" he questioned curiously.
I realized right away that it was a mistake to ask him that. The words slipped out of my mouth and I immediately tried to find an excuse to change the subject. "Oh, it's nothing. I just thought maybe you weren't aware that there are infiltrators among us. There are rogues pretending to be guards, like what happened last week," I responded.
"Well, you don't have to worry about that. I have a keen sense for rogues. They won't be able to fool me," he said confidently.
"That's good to hear. I was just concerned," I replied.
He smiled at me and took my hand. He kissed it, and I felt a warmth that I couldn't explain. Our eyes met, and I took the opportunity to kiss him.
As our lips met, he kissed me back gently. But it was only for a moment before he pulled away and walked off. He apologized, and I was disgusted to hear it.
"Sorry, Amelia. I didn't mean to," he apologized.
Feeling annoyed, I pulled him closer and kissed him without saying a word. I was carried away by the effects of the wine I had been drinking. I kissed him passionately, but after a few minutes, he gently stopped me. He held both of my hands and kissed them.
"This isn't right. Why don't you agree to be my Luna first, so we can freely do this?" he said softly.
I couldn't control myself and suddenly slapped him. He was taken aback by my actions, and I slapped him again. It wasn't because he rejected me, but because everything he showed was the opposite of what I wanted to see and feel.
I walked away from him, and he immediately stopped me. I halted when he spoke from behind.
"What do you want?! Isn't this what you want?!" I asked firmly.
"Don't pretend that you don't want this. I'm offering myself to you. Don't you want more?" I asked, annoyed.
"I don't want you to think that I don't respect you, Amelia. So until you accept me as your mate, I won't allow myself to do this," he answered seriously.
Gradually, he manages to convince me that he is not what I initially thought. It's hard to deny that his actions have a way of melting my defenses. I shouldn't let myself be fooled or give in to his words.
I understand men, and I know they can be cruel in this regard. I've personally experienced the horrors of violence. It was a nightmare that lasted for two years.
"You know, I just don't get you. You want us to do this, but you refuse to be my partner? What exactly do you want, Amelia?" he asked, his brow furrowed.
His words made me uneasy, but I fought against the nerves, not wanting him to see my vulnerability. I mustered the courage to respond and challenge his statement.
"Tell me, how can I trust that you'll satisfy me in bed? I don't want to end up disappointed," I retorted sarcastically.
"Is that what you really think? I can't believe it," he asked, his frown deepening.
"Give me a break!" I smirked.
He sighed at my words and slowly leaned in closer. In that moment, my heart raced, but our interaction was interrupted by a distant sound...
