Chapter 6: Is there something you want to tell me
“Zane's men have their eyes on me already and they're probably gonna take me away in a few seconds so you have to listen to me,” he had a strong sense of urgency in his voice with determination evident in his eyes.

“I don't understand, I think you have the wrong person, I'm married and my husband is going to be here any minute so you better leave right now, for your own good,” I had no idea who this man was and I also had no interest in whatever it was he had to say.

He wasn't fazed by what I said, he dipped his hands in his suit pocket and brought out a tiny locket.

“Here,” he handed me the locket.

The locket looked so familiar, I was certain I had seen it before, it was pure gold and oval shaped.

“Open it,” he instructed, for some reason, I didn't question him and just did what he said.

I cracked open the locket, and the moment my eyes landed on what was inside , a shiver ran down my spine. My breath hitched. No, this couldn't be real.

My gaze darted between the locket and the man standing before me, my heart pounding like a war drum. I studied his face, searching for an explanation, for any sign that my mind was playing tricks on me. But the truth stared back at me, imprinted in the tiny photograph inside the locket.

It was a picture of me and the strange man.

I was smiling with my arms draped around this stranger’s shoulders as if we belonged together. And him watching me, not the camera, his gaze filled with love.

A cold uncertainty settled in my chest. I struggled to make sense of it, to remember. But before I could even form a question, his voice cut through the silence.

“Read the inscription on the back.”

I turned to the back of the locket and there was a date there, as well as a text that read “From Amelia to Damian.”

“The date you see there is the date we got engaged, and this locket was a gift you gave to me at our engagement party.” He was looking over my shoulders now as he talked , I guess he didn't want Zane to see him here talking to me.

“I have to leave now, I know this whole thing might seem too much for you but if you want to talk I'll be at Khester, the coffee shop on Broadway street at 3pm tomorrow, I'll answer whatever questions you have to prove I'm not a liar,” he took my hand in his , with one hand below my palm, he placed his other hand on my fingers and stared directly into my eyes, it was the same way he stared at me in the picture, his eyes filled with love and affection like I was his entire world.

“I'm really glad you're okay,” he said, and then let go of me and disappeared into the crowd.

I was still lost in thoughts when Zane's voice pulled me back to reality.

“Amy baby,” he called out my name in a low tone, but the room wasn’t too rowdy so I was still able to hear him.
I turned towards his direction and tried to fake a smile, unsure of what to do.
If this strange guy, Damian, was my husband, then who is Zane? And why would he take me in and call me his wife when I was married to someone else.
Does this have something to do with the note I got at the hospital? I had so many questions I needed answers to and I made the decision there and then that I would meet up with Damian tomorrow.

“Amy are you okay?” Zane's voice pulled me back to reality for the second time.
“You look distracted,” he held my waist and pulled me to himself then he brushed off the strands of hair falling on my face with his fingers.
“If you're bored we can just leave, we don't have to stay here till the end of the event,” he added.

That was exactly what I needed, I had to leave this place so I could have an alone time to think.

“Let's go back home.”

Zane had been talking to one of his men for the past couple of minutes since we got to the house, he had asked me to go that he was right behind, but for some reason I was curious to know why he had asked me to go before him.

So I stood at the door watching him while he was talking to the man, for some reason, he had looked in my direction twice while still immersed in the conversation, it made me feel uncomfortable and question if they were actually talking about me, but I waved it off.

Then after a couple of seconds he looked at me again, and I knew for a fact that I was the topic of their conversation.
The man he was talking to was one of the two men who had entered the exhibition room with us and that confirmed my suspicions that they were talking about the man who had approached me at the event.

A wave of guilt crashed over me, making my stomach twist. I immediately hurried into the house, hoping to avoid him altogether. But just as I reached the stairs I turned around and there he was, striding toward me with a sharp, unreadable expression. My heart started racing, but I forced myself to act casual, pretending I didn't see him.

One step at a time, I climbed the stairs, keeping my movements slow and controlled since rushing would make me look suspicious. But just as I reached our bedroom and pushed the door shut behind me, a strong hand shoved it open.

I swallowed hard, forcing a smile. “Heyyyy…”

He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed with his eyes locked onto mine. “Is there something you want to tell me?”

A million thoughts were going through my head, I didn't know how to swerve my way out of this uncomfortable position. “He was a friend from highschool, we hadn't seen each other in years and he came over to say hi to me when he saw me at the exhibition.”

He narrowed his eyes and adjusted his crossed arms. “Hmmm, why didn't you mention it earlier?”

“Because I thought it was irrelevant information.” I was secretly hoping and praying that he believes me, the last thing I wanted was to be caught in a lie.

“Then why were you avoiding me, I asked you to go before me but you decided to wait and when you eventually went into the house , your entire demeanor changed the moment you saw I was right behind you not to mention the fact that you attempted to close the door, locking me out.”

I wish he would just let it go. “That was a whole different thing, completely unrelated to what happened at the exhibition, and it's because I was angry with you. I haven't been able to stop thinking about our kiss.”
I took a step closer to him and placed my hand on his chest.
“But I wasn't happy with the way you just left me hanging after turning me on.”

He smiled seductively and bit his lower lip as his gaze shifted from my eyes to my lips

I turned our conversation into a sexual one in an attempt to distract him, and from what I was seeing, it was working really effectively.

He pulled me closer to himself until our faces were only inches apart, placing his hands behind my neck, he leaned down and parted his lips ready to claim mine, but to his surprise I lifted my index finger and placed it over his lips.

“It's my turn to leave you hanging,” I said, giving him a mischievous smile and then I pulled myself away from him and walked into the
bedroom.

He smiled and nodded his head in defeat. “You naughty little princess.”
