Chapter 164 Full of Crimson and Hatred

Both of them looked at the phone screen at the same time. Violette raised an eyebrow and smiled, signaling Abigail to answer it quickly.

Abigail moved slowly, like a rusty machine. 'Is someone calling me to the dinner party?' she wondered.

Her smile was stiff, and after putting down the phone, her expression was hard to describe.

"I'll call my husband right now and tell him not to pick me up. We can go get our hair and makeup done together. I know a fantastic stylist," Violette said with a smile.

"Sure," Abigail replied, her face full of reluctance.

"Don't be like that. We can go together. It makes me much happier."

"I'm happy too."

"But you don't look happy at all," Violette pointed out.

Abigail was at a loss for words.

"Abigail, what a coincidence! You're here too?" Mabel suddenly appeared, her face full of surprise.

She quickly walked over to Abigail, her gaze lingering more on Violette.

Dressed simply, yet exuding an understated elegance.

This woman must have an extraordinary background!

Mabel smiled sweetly. "Abigail, is this the friend you mentioned?"

Mabel blinked her big, curious eyes.

"This is Violette Peterson. You can just call her Violette."

After introducing Violette, Abigail was about to introduce Mabel when Mabel happily grabbed Violette's hand. "Hi Violette, I'm Mabel Simpson. You can call me Mabel."

Mabel's enthusiasm made Abigail frown, but it was just a small matter, so she didn't say anything.

"It's getting late. Have you had dinner yet? How about we eat together?" Mabel suggested warmly, pulling out her phone to look for nearby restaurants.

"No need. We have something to do later," Abigail interrupted.

Mabel froze. "Are they important? Do you need me to come along?"

Her internal radar was beeping.

An event they were both attending must be significant.

It wouldn't be too much to tag along, right?

Hearing this, Violette frowned.

But considering that Mabel was Abigail's friend, she didn't act too coldly. She smiled gently and said, "Tonight's event might not be suitable. Maybe next time."

Anyone smart would understand what she meant, but Mabel was shameless.

"Violette, please take me along. I'm staying at Abigail's place, so it's on the way."

Violette raised an eyebrow in surprise. Why did Abigail bring this scheming woman home?

Abigail, oblivious to the depth in Violette's gaze, was still debating whether to bring Mabel along.

"I see," Violette paused slightly.

Mabel smiled, thinking Violette would agree.

"My driver just arrived. He can take you home. Abigail and I need to pick out dresses and get our hair done. It's a lot of work."

Mabel's smile froze.

She opened her mouth to try again, but a middle-aged driver in a white shirt and black pants walked over. Violette gave him a few instructions, and the driver gestured for Mabel to follow.

Mabel reluctantly said goodbye to them and left.

Once she was gone, Violette scolded, "Why did you let her stay at your place?"

How could Abigail have no sense of caution? This kind of woman, with her intentions written all over her face, was probably after Abigail's man!

"She's going through a tough time. I thought I'd help her out for a few days until she finds a place," Abigail explained.

"Inviting her is easy, but getting her to leave won't be. Why didn't you just help her find a hotel?" Violette countered.

"Violette, you mean..."

"You'll figure it out. It's getting late. Let's go."

Tonight's dinner party was a big deal, with major business figures and high-ranking officials attending.

The car soon stopped at the hotel entrance.

As they stepped out of the car, Marcus picked up Violette, and Abigail walked over to Edward.

"Did you have fun today?" Edward asked softly as Abigail took his arm.

Abigail nodded. "Yes, and Violette is so nice to me."

The Harrison and Peterson families were acquainted, and Edward trusted Violette's character, so he was comfortable with Abigail spending time with her.

"If you like her, spend more time with her and less with those other people."

There was a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice. Abigail noticed but didn't say anything, quietly following Edward.

Edward thought she understood and felt much better.

As they mingled, Abigail got distracted and accidentally bumped into a waiter, spilling something on her dress. The waiter was terrified.

"It's okay. I'll just go change," Abigail reassured him. At events like this, there were always backup dresses for such situations.

Abigail refused Edward's offer to accompany her and went upstairs alone. As she stepped out of the elevator, Yvette approached her.

It had been a while since they'd seen each other. Yvette looked much thinner, her cheekbones more prominent, and her lips, though painted with lipstick, were dry and cracked.

Yvette had always been vain. What happened to her?

"Long time no see," Yvette greeted.

"Yes, it's been a while," Abigail replied, about to head to her room.

"Seeing you and Edward so happy, I'm relieved."

Abigail paused.

"Seeing you two in love makes me happy. But... Abigail, do you want to hear a story?"

Abigail took a deep breath and turned around slowly.

"No need," she refused coldly.

Yvette was stunned. She hadn't expected that response.

"But you..."

Before Yvette could finish, Abigail had already entered her room and closed the door.

Yvette's face darkened. She stood silently at the door.

From the end of the hallway, a waiter respectfully said, "Mr. Harrison, your room is right here. Please wait while I knock."

Yvette's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly hid.

She watched Edward enter the room. Soon, she heard Abigail's surprised scream, which gradually turned into something else.

Yvette's nails dug into her palms, but she felt no pain, only a burning hatred.

She stood outside the door for half an hour before leaving under the waiter's curious gaze.

Why was Edward so obsessed with this woman?

Inside the room, Abigail turned her back as Edward zipped up her dress.

She wanted to do it herself, but Edward pulled her hand away and said, "I'm just helping you zip up, nothing more.""

Hearing that, Abigail smiled bitterly.
