Chapter 163 Meeting with Violette
After the car drove away, Mabel came downstairs. She stared at the car's shadow for a long time before walking in the opposite direction.
Abigail arrived at the shopping mall where she had arranged to meet Violette.
As soon as she got out of the car, she saw Violette waving at her.
Even though she had only met Violette once before, Abigail felt a close connection with her. Maybe this was what people meant by "instant rapport."
She smiled and walked towards Violette.
"Violette, sorry to keep you waiting."
Violette smiled warmly and naturally linked her arm with Abigail's. "I just got here myself."
Abigail grabbed Violette's hand and, like a detective, said, "You're lying. Your hand is cold."
Before Violette could react, Abigail took her palm and started rubbing it gently.
Violette was surprised. "What are you doing?"
This kind of gesture was rare, even from her husband, and usually only happened when they were dating...
She fell into a moment of nostalgia.
"Just warming your hand," Abigail said casually.
"Since you were waiting for me, I have to take responsibility," she added.
Violette laughed. "Stop joking around. Let's go inside before your hands get cold too."
Arm in arm, they walked into the mall.
Abigail noticed that Violette kept glancing at the baby stores they passed. She started the conversation, "Violette, do you like kids?"
"Of course I do. Who wouldn't like adorable kids?" Violette replied naturally.
"But taking care of kids is exhausting."
"With a nanny and a husband, how tiring can it be?"
Abigail studied Violette's face and realized she genuinely believed that. She couldn't help but sigh.
Different social classes have completely different perspectives on the same thing.
Only families who can afford nannies think kids are easy to take care of.
"Let's go in and take a look," Violette suggested.
Abigail nodded.
The baby store was staffed entirely by women, and customers browsed children's items. The store played soft music that made everyone feel relaxed.
"Hello, ladies. What are you looking for today? How old is your child?" The store clerk's voice was gentle and welcoming.
"I don't have a child yet," Violette said, looking at the tiny clothes and shoes with growing anticipation in her eyes.
She turned to Abigail. "Do you want to buy something?"
Violette's gaze shifted downward.
Abigail was surprised. "You know?"
Although her belly was a bit bigger, it wasn't very noticeable compared to other women who were four months pregnant.
"Of course. You often protect your belly with your hands, and Mr. Harrison does too. He always glances at your belly. Haven't you noticed?"
Abigail shook her head.
Edward often looked at her belly?
"You two have such a great relationship. You might be so used to it that you don't even find it unusual," Violette teased with a smile.
Abigail could only smile.
Violette was wealthy, and today Abigail learned that she came from a prestigious family. She had just reached the age for marriage and followed her elders' wishes to marry Marcus.
Unlike other arranged marriages, theirs was full of love and affection.
Even after all these years, their relationship was still strong.
"I'm so envious," Abigail said.
"How long have you been together?" Violette asked casually.
"Seven years," Abigail said, biting her lip, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Seven years? So, when you were eighteen... Mr. Harrison seems so charming, I didn't expect... Abigail, did he trick you into being with him?"
Violette's eyes were full of concern, not the disdain Abigail had expected.
Her hand was held tightly, and warmth spread through her heart.
Feeling comforted, Abigail smiled gently. "No, I chose to be with him willingly. We... it was love at first sight."
Abigail's eyes flickered for a moment. 'Sorry, Violette, I lied.'
It was love at first sight for her, and she sold her first night and body.. Later, she couldn't help but love her benefactor. Now... Abigail looked down at her belly.
Violette saw Abigail's actions and thought she was happy.
Love at first sight, seven years together, and now expecting a baby. How wonderful.
"Abigail, things will only get better," Violette sincerely wished.
"Violette, they will for both of us."
They exchanged smiles.
Soon, Abigail couldn't smile anymore. Violette was a shopping maniac. When they left the baby store, the clerk held a stack of receipts, all from Violette's purchases.
"That's enough. If you buy any more, we won't be able to fit it all in the car."
Abigail tried to stop her, but the clerk suddenly chimed in, "Don't worry, Miss Peterson. We offer home delivery services."
Abigail fell silent.
Violette became even more enthusiastic, waving her hand and adding another stack of receipts to the clerk's pile.
"Really, Violette, you're going to fill my yard. I don't have a storage room; we can't fit any more."
Abigail almost pinched Violette's arm before she reluctantly stopped.
Seeing Violette's lingering gaze, Abigail couldn't help but laugh.
Taking advantage of Violette's pause, Abigail quickly pulled her out of the store.
Violette didn't buy anything particularly expensive, but the sheer quantity of items added up to a hefty total.
Abigail calculated in her mind. As they passed a jewelry store, she pulled Violette inside.
Violette wasn't interested in jewelry. She thought Abigail liked it, so she accompanied her.
Abigail was smart. She didn't say she was buying for herself but asked Violette to help her try things on, saying she would give them as gifts to friends later.
Violette patiently taught Abigail how to choose jewelry and picked out a luxurious and elegant necklace for her.
Abigail immediately asked the clerk to wrap it up.
Violette raised an eyebrow slightly and asked the clerk to wrap another piece.
They continued shopping for a while, had lunch together, and watched a movie in the afternoon.
Violette hadn't had such a carefree day in a long time, and her face was full of smiles.
Abigail also felt relaxed, her face showing relief.
When it was time to part, they reluctantly handed the wrapped jewelry boxes to each other.
"I don't want it."
"You have to take it."
"If you don't, I'll be mad."
They spoke at the same time and burst into laughter.
As they took the elevator downstairs, the car was already waiting at the entrance. Marcus called, saying there was a last-minute dinner party tonight, and he needed Violette to accompany him.
Violette's face instantly showed distress. "I really don't like those events. They're too formal, and those people... you know."
"I understand, but there's no choice," Abigail said helplessly. Since Edward introduced her to William, who temporarily accepted her as his granddaughter-in-law, the number of events she needed to attend had increased dramatically.
She was about to comfort Violette when her own phone rang.
