Chapter 153 Chaos Rising

Abigail's eyebrows shot up, her eyes wide with shock. Edward mistook her reaction for embarrassment at being caught.

She was so cold-hearted, not wanting to marry him and even thinking about aborting their baby!

If that was the case—

Edward slammed his foot on the gas pedal, and the car rocketed down the highway.

He weaved through traffic, and Abigail clung to the safety handle, her heart pounding.

"Edward, stop! This is crazy!" she yelled, her voice trembling with fear.

"Crazy? Drinking isn't crazy? Staying out all night isn't crazy?" he shot back, his foot pressing the pedal to the floor. The car was inches from the one in front of them—a hair-raisingly close distance!

Edward kept speeding, as if he was determined to take her and the baby down with him.

"Calm down!" Abigail screamed, her eyes squeezed shut.

"Believe me, I never wanted to hurt the baby. I love her just as much as you do. Without her, I wouldn't know how to go on!"

The car screeched to a halt, and before Abigail could open her eyes, the door was yanked open.

She was pulled out.

Abigail was disoriented.

When she came to, she was lying on a treatment bed in the emergency room.

Several doctors surrounded her.

The test results came back, confirming there was no alcohol in her system. The doctor went out to report to Edward.

"Are you sure?" Edward asked, his hands clenched against his forehead, looking up uncertainly.

"Mr. Harrison, here's the test report. You can see for yourself. The results show that Miss Peterson's blood pressure is slightly elevated, likely due to shock. She needs bed rest."

Edward fell silent.

The doctor didn't dare leave without Edward's response and stood there for a full twenty minutes.

When Edward finally got up to walk to the hospital room, the doctor stretched his stiff legs.

Abigail had already fallen asleep during the examination.

Edward entered the room quietly, not wanting to wake her.

However, the scene of Edward's madness haunted her dreams, causing her brow to furrow.

Edward watched her, raising his hand to smooth the wrinkles.

As soon as his fingers touched her, Abigail's eyes snapped open.

She shrank back, crossing her arms protectively over her belly, her eyes filled with fear.

Edward withdrew his hand, regret flashing in his eyes.

"What do you want to say? Just say it, I'm listening."

She was just an object to him, something he could manipulate at will.

Abigail looked away, her expression indifferent.

Edward felt a sharp pain in his heart. "I... I misunderstood. I thought— Abigail, I just want to take care of you and the baby. I don't want anything to happen to either of you."

Abigail's face remained unchanged, unmoved.

"Abigail, I'm sorry for scaring you tonight. The doctor said your blood pressure is a bit high, and you need to rest in the hospital."

After his outburst, he turned around and showed concern.

It was always like this.

Abigail looked away. "Are you done? I'm tired."

At this time, she would usually be asleep, especially since she became pregnant. Unless there were special circumstances, her routine was very regular.

After a brief nap, the nightmare had left her feeling even more exhausted.

Her lower back was aching, and she felt uncomfortable all over.

"Then sleep. I'll stay with you." Edward's tone was extremely gentle, like a different person.

Abigail turned her back to him and lay down.

Edward covered her with a blanket. She didn't resist but remained indifferent.

Edward's eyes darkened, but he still tucked the blanket around her.

"Should I turn off the light?" he asked softly.

Abigail didn't respond.

Edward turned off the light and sat back down.

In the middle of the night, a nurse came to check on the room. She opened the door slightly and was startled to see someone standing by the bed, nearly screaming.

In the dim light from the hallway, the night nurse recognized Edward's face and awkwardly whispered, "Mr. Harrison," before quickly moving on to the next room.

So Mr. Harrison hadn't left. Miss Peterson in this room was really lucky.

The next morning, Abigail woke up and immediately saw Edward's bloodshot eyes.

It looked like he hadn't slept all night.

"I want to go home," she said flatly.

"The doctor said you need to rest," Edward replied, his voice gentle but firm.

Abigail didn't say anything else and lay back down.

It was clear she didn't care what he did.

Having wronged her yesterday, Edward couldn't stand Abigail's coldness or the sight of her suffering alone.

He would rather she vent her anger at him.

"I'll go ask the doctor," he said, leaving the room.

A nurse came in to take Abigail's temperature and blood pressure, followed by an intern nurse who was full of curiosity.

Edward returned quickly, and the two nurses instinctively stepped back.

"Abigail, the doctor said you can go home after one more day of observation. Can you stay one more day?" he asked, his tone almost pleading.

The nurses widened their eyes at Edward's tone.

Was this really Mr. Harrison?

Miss Peterson must have some incredible skills!

Abigail's silence hurt Edward more than if she had stabbed him with a knife.

"Abigail, you're still weak. Let's listen to the doctor, okay?"

The room fell silent, and the two nurses couldn't bear to listen any longer. Their image of Mr. Harrison as a cold, domineering CEO was shattered.

That afternoon, Edward called James to personally examine Abigail. After confirming that her health had returned to normal, Edward drove her home himself.

Murray and Ondine were worried sick when they heard about the near car accident involving Edward and Abigail.

Seeing them, they finally felt relieved.

"Miss Peterson, are you hurt?" Ondine asked with concern.

"I'm fine," Abigail replied, smiling at Ondine.

Edward's face was tense, feeling uncomfortable.

She could smile at Ondine but treated him with indifference, even though he had already apologized.

Did she want him to kneel and beg for forgiveness?

Edward's lips tightened, and he said hoarsely, "Abigail needs to rest."

"Yes, I'll take her," Ondine quickly agreed, helping Abigail to her bedroom.

Not long after, Edward went upstairs but found that Abigail wasn't in the bedroom.

He frowned and went to the guest room next door, and sure enough—

Abigail was lying on the bed, covered with a thin blanket. It was unclear if she was asleep.

Ondine came up with a glass of warm milk and saw Edward at the door. She hesitated, "Mr. Harrison?"

Edward stepped forward and touched the edge of the blanket. Feeling the warmth, he nodded and gestured for Ondine to go in.

In the evening, Ondine brought dinner upstairs and saw Edward still at the door. She couldn't help but say, "Mr. Harrison, should I bring you a chair?"

Standing all the time would be hard on his legs and feet.

"What did you make?" Edward asked.

Ondine listed a few of Abigail's favorite dishes, and Edward nodded, letting Ondine go in.

Ten minutes later, Ondine came out, and Edward, who had been resting his eyes, suddenly looked up.

Seeing the tray with the untouched dinner, his face darkened.
