Chapter 152 Pregnant Women Shouldn't Drink Alcohol, Don't You Know?
Murray quickly said to Abigail, "Miss Peterson, I'll send someone to pick you up later."
Abigail was about to refuse, but Odette accidentally bumped into her, causing her phone to fly out of her hand and hang up.
Odette panicked. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry, Abigail! I didn't mean to."
She hurriedly picked up the phone, relieved to find it undamaged, and handed it back to Abigail with a sigh of relief.
"I need to use the restroom. You should go inside," Abigail said, taking the phone and turning away.
Odette stood at the door for a moment, shook her arm, and reluctantly went back inside.
Mabel had asked her to get Abigail drunk, but Abigail was proving to be a tough nut to crack. What could she do?
She glanced around at her colleagues, her eyes narrowing as an idea formed.
When Abigail returned, not only Odette but also other colleagues found various excuses to get her to drink.
Abigail was cornered and had no choice but to pretend to take a sip, discreetly spitting it into the trash can when no one was looking, then quickly rinsing her mouth with a drink.
Yet, after several turns, the alcohol's bitter and harsh flavor overwhelmed her senses.
She pretended to be drunk, slumping over the table, finally giving her some peace.
Seeing Abigail seemingly drunk, Odette's eyes lit up.
She pushed away the others still trying to get Abigail to drink, feigning annoyance. "Enough, guys! Abigail's drunk. Just wait until she sobers up tomorrow and deals with you!"
Everyone burst into laughter.
After the dinner, everyone was drunk, stumbling out together.
Odette supported Abigail at the back. "You okay, Abigail? Should I get you a hotel nearby?"
As she spoke, she texted Mabel, urging her to come quickly. She didn't want to take care of a drunk person.
Handing Abigail over to Mabel, Odette waved and hurried off in her high heels to catch the nightlife. Tomorrow was the weekend, and she planned to stay out all night.
"Abigail? Abigail?" Mabel called out twice, seeing no response, she smirked.
"Where do you live, Abigail? I'll take you home."
Abigail was only pretending to be drunk, but with Mabel there, she had to keep up the act.
Supporting Abigail out of the restaurant, Mabel was about to hail a cab when a car horn suddenly blared.
Startled, Mabel turned angrily, ready to curse, but a tall, backlit figure dressed impeccably stepped out of the car.
The man took a few steps forward, and Mabel's eyes widened.
'Mr. Harrison!'
"Give her to me. You can leave," Edward said, pulling Abigail into his arms.
Shocked, Mabel pretended not to recognize Edward, cautiously saying, "Who are you? I warn you, the police station is nearby. Leave now, or I'll call the cops!"
Edward laughed, amused at being mistaken for a criminal.
"I'm her husband!"
"You say so, but I could be her sister!" Mabel retorted, hands on her hips.
Edward studied the woman, finding her familiar but unable to place her, eventually giving up.
"Are you an employee of the Harrison Group?"
Mabel raised an eyebrow. "How do you know? Just because you did your homework doesn't mean I believe you. Don't think you can fool me with tricks. Give Abigail back, or I'll really call the cops!"
Edward, tired of arguing, said, "Check the company website!"
He lifted Abigail, heading towards his Bentley.
"Wait, you can't take her!" Mabel gritted her teeth. She couldn't let Edward leave now that she'd run into him.
She grabbed Edward's arm, but he shook her off without hesitation.
Placing Abigail in the passenger seat and covering her with his coat, Edward stood up, his cold gaze making Mabel's scalp tingle.
"You... you can't take Abigail without confirming your identity!" Mabel insisted, stubbornly holding her ground like a defiant heroine in a romance novel.
"Are you blind? Get lost!"
Hearing Edward's curse, Mabel froze.
Mabel bit her lip, convinced Edward thought she was one of the people who got Abigail drunk.
"Wait, I didn't get Abigail drunk. Why are you insulting me?"
Edward turned back. "Your acting is terrible!"
With that, he got into the Bentley, the limited edition car speeding away like an eagle, disappearing in a blink.
Mabel blinked, confused. What did he mean? Had he seen through her?
"Stop pretending, she's gone," Edward said, driving.
Abigail, embarrassed, sat up straight.
"How did you know?"
Edward glanced at her, then focused back on the road.
Feeling awkward, Abigail turned to look out the window, watching tall elm trees and passing pedestrians.
A family of three walked out of a store, holding hands, smiles on their faces.
The sight made Abigail smile too.
The tension in the car was palpable, reaching a breaking point.
"Pregnant women shouldn't drink, didn't you know?"
Edward had smelled the alcohol when he took Abigail from Mabel.
The scent wasn't strong, but alcohol was harmful to pregnant women!
It could cause fetal neural development issues, deformities, and even death!
Not to mention the impact on the mother's liver and kidney functions!
The doctor had emphasized this during her prenatal check-up. Did she not care about the baby, or did she hate him so much she wanted to harm their child?
Edward's face tightened, his hand gripping the steering wheel, veins bulging.
"I didn't drink, just took a couple of sips."
Of course, she knew pregnant women shouldn't drink, but she couldn't tell her colleagues she was pregnant.
"A couple of sips?" Edward's mouth twisted into a cold smile.
"I didn't drink, I spat it out. Really."
But Edward's cold gaze remained unconvinced.
Abigail sighed.
The car fell silent, the tension suffocating. Abigail rolled down the window.
Edward's shout exploded beside her.
"Drinking isn't enough, you want to freeze yourself sick? Do you hate my child so much? If you didn't want it, you should've aborted it from the start, instead of torturing yourself now!"
Abigail turned, shocked.
What was he saying? She didn't understand a word!
