CHAPTER 145
CHAPTER 145
DIEGO
"FUCK!" I cursed, running my hand down my face.
The place we came to find this mastermind, used to be an old hideout somewhere in Wolf Blood pack.
The place is abandoned. It's spacious, has two dirty old chairs and dust everywhere.
"Keep checking. We might find something," Arnold said to my men, walking over to my point while they scanned the building.
"We'll definitely find a clue that'll lead us to him."
"I hope it's soon," I sighed, hovering my gaze on the room.
The width of the place can house about three to five hundred crates of the substance.
But here in Wolf Blood?
"How come I never knew of this place?" I muttered to myself, strolling around, thinking.
"Located under an old warehouse at the center of Wolf Blood? Could it be that our target is a member of this pack?!" I suspected, thinking back to Woods and his long stay in Wolf Blood.
Now it made sense!
"He was seeing his partner here," I said, looking over at Arnold, who has been following me from behind.
"If the old hideout is here, then the current one isn't far. It must be here in Wolf Blood!" I shared with my Beta, changing my plans. "We're going to carry out a thorough search under this pack and smoke that wolf out."
"Give me your orders and I'll get the guards moving," Arnold said showing his readiness.
I was about to tell him what to do when I got a call from Anna's father, the Alpha.
I had to put my Beta on hold, answering my father-in-law.
"Greetings, Alpha."
"Greetings, son. Is Anna with you? I've been trying to call her line for long, but nothing."
"No, she's not here. She must be busy. Any problem?" I asked, stepping aside.
"Not at all. I just wanted to know if she'd be coming around to see me. You know, with the mating ceremony close, I want us to have a father and daughter moment."
"I see," I chuckled, understanding his desire.
I promised to help reach out to Anna as soon as possible, believing she was busy having a lady's time with Sonia.
Alpha De Great was pleased, ready to end the call when suddenly... "One minute, father," I stopped him.
"Yes, son?"
I don't know, but my heart wants me to ask him. I have a feeling he can help me with this search.
"I need your help with something real quick. It's about Woods."
"Woods? What about him?" He asked, sounding confused.
I shared my location with him, telling him about the hideout and Woods partner.
"Do you know anyone else he visits here in Wolf Blood? Maybe names or descriptions," I asked.
Anna's father went silent for more than ten seconds, until... "Diego... I know who you're looking for."
That response blew me instantly!
"Are you serious?" I asked, my voice louder than before.
"Yes," He confirmed.
"Come over to my office. I can't tell you over the phone."
"No problem. I'll be there," I promised, ending the call.
Looking over at Arnold, I told him what Anna's father had just said.
"For real?" My Beta was surprised.
I told him to hold on with the search until I've gotten the culprits name from Alpha De Great.
"Always trust your guts," I praised my guts.
I drove down to his company and met my father-in-law was waiting for me at the entrance of his building.
His face... Emotionless.
"Come with me, son," He said, leading me to the back of the building, tucking his hands into his pocket, as he went silent.
His sudden behavior felt strange.
"Is everything okay?" I asked, showing my concern.
He looked at me with a light smile and said, "Maybe. I don't know."
That was all that he said.
Now his mood was bugging me and I needed to know if he was in any kind of problem.
"Father," I called, placing my hold on his shoulder to stop him from walking any further.
"What's wrong? Are you being threatened?" I asked, getting serious.
"Is it Wood's partner?" I added, suspecting.
"You can tell me if he's harassing you and I'll handle him."
"I know what you're capable of doing, Diego," He said, patting me on the back.
"That's why I called you here to tell you who this terrible man is."
I stared at him, waiting.
But Alpha De Great led me further to the back of the company where we met two guards standing outside a back door, keeping watch.
When I saw this, I felt the hair at the back of my neck, tingling weirdly.
Why does he have two guards guiding this door?
The men opened the door for us to go in.
We headed down into what looked like a dark basement, with only the entrance door giving light.
The moment the door was shut, a blazing light came on, revealing the inner part of this room.
What I thought was a mere basement, turned out to be something unexpected!
"What?" I gasped out in shock, staring at thousands of crates filled with the harmful substance!
I walked closer to a pillar of this crates, looking at the bottles to be sure if it was the same container used to seal this chemical.
Indeed it was!
But how?!
What's it doing under De Great's company?!
That's when it hit me.
"No," I uttered, my eyes popping wide.
I turned around and found Anna's father staring at me with a smile, but his eyes... They had tears.
"Please tell me this is a mistake. Tell me you know nothing about this."
"You're looking at it, Diego. This is where the drugs are being made," He said, arms wide spread.
"This is where Woods comes to visit his partner. The man you're looking for..." He looked at me, his eyes filled with guilt.
"I am the one."
My heart sank at his confession. I wanted this to be a lie, but... "It's you."
.
"How... How did this happen?" I asked, following Anna's father from behind, as he strolled further into this underground den, showing me around.
My father-in-law was in pain. He didn't even know where to start from.
"My story is an ear full, son. You'd be surprised to know how all these started," He said, stopping right in front of an opening, which turned out to be a secret road leading out of Wolf Blood.
"It all started when Anna's mother fell terribly ill with a strange sickness. From one hospital to another... Expenses upon expenses... Her condition was critical and I feared she was going to die and leave us behind," He started, still staring at the road.
"I didn't want to lose my wife and end up alone. But I did. My girl lost her mother, and I lost my mate to death. I fell weak."
That harsh part of life struck me, reminding me of my own family.
The pain of losing your loved ones.
It hurts.
"It was hard to move on without my mate, but I had to push on for my daughter's sake, being her only support. Then just like my wife, Anna fell ill. She began having the same symptoms as her mother, and it scared me," He said, tightening his hands sorrowfully.
"I was just a mere businessman with little knowledge on medicines. I didn't have enough money to take my daughter to the hospital or buy her the medicines needed, so I decided to take the risk and find a cure myself. A decision that brought about my first poison," He revealed the origin of its creation.
"Anna almost became the first victim, but she was saved by my own carelessness. A maid had accidentally taken the drug from where I left it in the kitchen, and foolishly drank it, thinking it was just water in a glass! She became the first ever person to be infected, expressing a wild hunger for sex."
"Her behavior frightened me, so I had her sent away, vowing to never create such an abomination again."
"But you didn't stop. Why?"
"Woods," He replied, revealing the main problem.
"He came like a saint and saved my Anna's life. But in exchange, he wanted more of the drugs. He... He found the maid and she told him all that happened. My actions brought that man into my life," He spoke bitterly, wiping his face.
"I didn't want to break my promise, but Woods used my daughter's condition to manipulate me."
"He spoke about the riches I'd make, and how it'd help my girl if she ever falls into a difficult situation in the future. The greatness my company would face if I include this skills into my work... He said so many things that forced me to take in his words and become his partner."
"And I agreed, breaking my own promise. I accepted Woods deal and began making this... This thing!" He looked over at a crate next to him and groaned in disgust.
"It took long to gather the required materials to start the production. Then before I knew it, I was making millions upon millions. I became unstoppable." He swayed his head, chuckling.
"Then I found love again in Linda and her daughter, Cassandra. My home was finally complete. My business was rising to the top. I became the most richest and treasured business wolf everyone desperately wants to work with," He laughed, turning to face me.
Slowly... "Then you came into the picture." His laughter died down.
"Alpha Diego, the most dangerous wolf, hunting down every Mafias and their accomplice. Your name shook the underworld like crazy," He scoffed, swaying his head.
"Even Woods got scared of you. He spoiled your image to me, described you as an enemy I must stay clear of. So, out of fear... I did what any father would do, and warned my family about you. It became their everyday sermon."
"Your teachings to Anna," I pointed out.
He confirmed.
"I should have known something was odd when Anna told you Linda drugged her and you believed without supporting your ex-wife. She knew about your secret."
"Linda and Woods are the only two who knew the truth about me," He affirmed.
"She was like a roach who loved to meddle in my business when she felt like it. Always asking questions... How does the drug work... I had no doubt in my daughter when she mentioned Linda," He sniffed, suppressing his pain.
"I knew right there that I was the main cause of her suffering."
"Father."
"I tried so hard to protect my girl from having a taste of this abomination, but I failed. She went through so much pains and what did I do?"
I moved closer, placing my hand on his shoulder to show my support.
"If she hadn't met you soon, by now my Anna..."
"That's all in the past," I comforted him, easing his aching heart.
"Our Anna is cured. She won't face anymore pains, ever again."
"My heart won't be at rest until I've gotten rid of this place," He said, looking right at the crates.
"As long as it's standing, I'll never get pass the problems I've caused with my own hands. I don't want Anna finding out about my deeds. I don't want my girl hating me," He feared.
"That's why I called you over to tell you the truth. I need your help in ending this. Please son, help me," He begged, holding my hands tight.
Before I could give him my words, I noticed father staring right behind me in shock.
His expression got me turning around to see what the problem was.
That's when I spotted Anna, gazing at us with tears streaming down her face!
"Anna," My body shook.
How did she find this place?
"Linda wasn't lying. You are the one," She sniffled, her hands trembling.
