Chapter 47 System Warning

Chapter 47 System Warning
The pressure inside my chest spiked dangerously, like something massive was trying to punch its way out through my ribs.

I dropped to my knees again in the cracked corridor, gasping for air as the system interface flooded my vision with flashing red alerts. They came so fast I could barely read them before new ones replaced them.

\[WARNING: CRITICAL EMOTIONAL OVERLOAD\]
\[CONTAINMENT STRESS: EXTREME\]
\[INTEGRITY DEGRADATION ACCELERATING\]

Numbers cascaded downward faster than ever before.

STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY: 87% → 86% → 85% → 84%

I clutched at my chest, tears streaming down my face. “Stop… please stop… I can’t take this anymore!”

Soren tried to reach me, but Lucien raised a hand and Soren froze mid-step, body locked in place once again. Lucien’s eyes stayed on me, calm and curious, like he was watching a beautiful experiment unfold.

“You feel it, don’t you?” Lucien said softly. “The Core is tired of being caged. It wants to breathe. It wants to live through you.”

“I don’t care what it wants!” I shouted, rage and fear colliding violently inside me. “I want it gone! I want my life back! I want to stop being this… this thing everyone is afraid of!”

The pressure surged harder. My vision filled with more flashing red text.

\[WARNING: POWER SURGE DETECTED\]
\[EMOTIONAL FEEDBACK LOOP INITIATED\]
\[STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY: 84% → 83%\]

I screamed as pain ripped through my body. It felt like my bones were vibrating, like every cell was being rewritten at once. “Make it stop! Lucien, if you really want to help me, make it stop!”

Lucien knelt slowly in front of me, still perfectly calm. “Why would I stop it? This is the most honest you’ve ever been. The Core is responding to your true feelings. Your rage. Your fear. Your exhaustion with being small. Let it speak, Elias. Let it show you what real power feels like.”

“I don’t want real power!” I cried out, slamming my fist against the cracked floor. “I want to be normal! I want to wake up and not be terrified that I’ll freeze someone or break the world just because I got angry! I want my team back! I want to stop feeling guilty every second of every day!”

\[STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY: 83% → 82%\]

The drop was massive. Two percent in seconds.

A loud chime echoed in my mind, deep, resonant, like a bell tolling inside my skull.

\[CRITICAL INTEGRITY BREACH IMMINENT\]
\[FORCED POWER RELEASE IN 3… 2…\]

I curled forward, pressing my forehead against the cold, broken floor. “Please… I’m begging you… I don’t want to lose myself. I don’t want to become the monster they all think I am…”

Lucien reached out and gently placed a hand on my shoulder. His touch was warm, almost comforting. “You were never a monster, Elias. You were a seed. And seeds must break open to grow. The others died because they were only soil. You… you are the flower that will bloom from their graves.”

I looked up at him through blurred vision, rage and terror twisting together until I couldn’t tell them apart. “I hate you. I hate what you’re doing to me. I hate that part of me wants to listen to you.”

Lucien’s smile returned, soft and understanding. “That part of you is the Core waking up. It knows the truth. It knows you were never meant to stay human. You were meant to become something eternal.”

\[STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY: 82%\]

The number burned in my vision like a brand.

I screamed again as another wave of pressure slammed through me. The walls around us cracked louder. The ceiling panels groaned and shifted. Dust rained down heavily.

Soren fought against whatever force held him, voice strained. “Elias… fight it… don’t let him push you over the edge…”

But I was already falling.

The Core inside me roared with satisfaction, feeding on my pain, my fear, my growing rage at everything that had been taken from me.

Lucien leaned closer, his voice a gentle whisper. “Let it happen, container. Let it all happen. I’m here. I’ll catch you when you break.”

I pressed my hands against my head, sobbing openly now as the numbers kept dropping.

\[STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY: 82%\]

And falling faster than ever before.
