Chapter 85 The Parker Family Comes Knocking (Part 2)
"But how do we settle the matter of Henry Parker insulting my wife?" Asher inquired.
"And how would you like to settle it?" Javier asked with a smile, not at all surprised by Asher's demand and even showing a hint of admiration.
"I want compensation for my wife's emotional distress," Asher said with a slight smile. "As her husband, I demand one hundred million dollars. But my wife is kind-hearted, so let's cut it in half."
The entire villa fell silent at his words.
The Morgans looked at Asher in shock. This man must be insane, they thought, for the Parkers were not the type to reason like the Adams family!
Avery looked up at Asher, standing beside her, with lips almost bleeding from the tension.
Once again, it was Asher who took all the risks, even if it meant offending the powerful Parker family.
Javier's bodyguards watched Asher with cold eyes, as if looking at a dead man.
"Ah, the audacity of youth!" Javier nodded in appreciation. "I can make a decision on behalf of Henry. With that, both our losses will be even."
As Javier finished speaking, the Morgans were stunned.
Since when were the Parkers so easy to talk to?
And what was Javier's true purpose for coming here?
Javier continued, "Henry knows Mr. White is no ordinary man and has cordially invited you to a banquet at the Red Resort at five in the evening, three days from now. Mr. White, we hope you will grace us with your presence."
"Red Resort?"
"A banquet is no good banquet; it's a trap!"
Even a fool could tell this was a setup, a modern-day Red Banquet!
Avery trembled, clutching Asher's clenched fist, tears welling in her eyes.
She didn't know what to do, feeling the ultimate injustice, panic taking over her.
She just wanted a peaceful life; why was it so hard to achieve?
Asher was suffering, truly suffering. Yet, he couldn't make any decisions on behalf of the Morgan family.
Everything was on Asher to bear.
Asher knew Avery wanted him to decline, but could he really avoid it by doing so?
Samuel's expression changed. Even though it was Asher, whom he despised, in trouble, he couldn't feel happy.
After all, the future of the Morgan family was at stake.
And Grandma couldn't just isolate Uncle Three's family from the Morgans.
If the Morgans didn't handle this carefully, they'd all be implicated. They were already implicated.
But hearing 'Red Resort', he was truly shocked.
Many of the younger Morgans didn't know the significance of Red Resort, but Samuel, with his broad experience, had heard tales of it.
Red Resort was a landmark in New York, with a history of over a hundred years.
The exact date of its establishment was unknown, but for the past century, whenever major power shifts occurred in New York, the family heads would gather at Red Resort to discuss.
Through the years, many powers rose and fell in New York, but Red Resort remained, a legacy to this day.
In other words, those who set foot in Red Resort were the real power players in New York, able to make the city tremble with a stomp of their feet.
Beckett knew of Red Resort too, and his heart skipped a beat.
Firstly, what skills or qualifications did Asher have to step into Red Resort?
Secondly, with the Parker family's power in New York, many powerful entities looked up to them. If Asher went there, coming back in one piece would be a miracle.
Demanding medical expenses was just a pretext; Javier's real purpose was something else.
Asher staggered. What right did he have to step into Red Resort?
If he revealed he was the eldest grandson of the White family, perhaps he had a bit of a right.
Did the Parker family already know his true identity?
Asher looked down, eyes narrowing with bloodshot veins, a murderous intent swelling within.
Avery, surprised by Asher's demeanor, stared wide-eyed. The air around her seemed to chill, and the murderous look in Asher's eyes frightened her, making her feel like she didn't know the man before her.
"Husband..." Avery called out, scared.
Asher snapped out of it, feeling Avery's cold hand gripping his fist, and the murderous intent receded like the tide, as if it had never been there.
He knew the banquet was a trap, but he couldn't avoid it.
What had to be faced, would be faced!
"I'll be there at five, three days from now," Asher declared.
Javier smiled slightly. "Very well, then. I won't disturb you any longer; I shall take my leave."
With that, he nodded to Grandma, turned, and left with his bodyguards.
Three minutes after Javier's departure, the Morgan villa remained silent...
"Asher, I'll go with you in three days!" Beckett's words broke the silence.
Hearing this, Cameron became anxious, reaching out to stop him, but Beckett shrugged him off, his mind made up to face whatever came their way together.
Grandma looked at Beckett, her lips quivering, but ultimately, she said nothing. She knew her son's temperament well; once he said something, he wouldn't go back on it, not even if nine oxen dragged him.
"It was I who hit Henry, and Avery is my wife. I must take responsibility," Asher said, looking up at Beckett with a small smile. "Besides, maybe things won't turn out as bad as we think."
"Let's eat well; I think I'll go now," Asher nodded in acknowledgment, then turned and left.
After such an incident, he really wasn't in the mood to eat there, and he felt the Morgans probably weren't either.
Avery, in a hurry, signaled to her father and quickly followed Asher out.
Back home, Asher acted as if nothing had happened, pushing Avery into the study and himself diving into the kitchen.
He didn't make the Italian-style nutritious pork rib soup he had talked about but stewed a chicken instead and quickly stir-fried two dishes, along with a small pot of rice. The dinner was sumptuous.
Avery, stunned, was pushed by Asher to wash her hands and then to the dining room.
Looking at the lavish dinner before her, Avery was lost in thought.
So rich, yet it felt like a last supper...
Asher had faced too much pressure. This situation seemed extremely dangerous, but it didn't seem to affect his appetite.
Avery, with too much on her mind and filled with anxiety, had no appetite. She ate only half a bowl of rice and a small bowl of chicken soup, leaving all the chicken for Asher.
Asher ate heartily.
A last supper? A meal before execution?
Avery's tears flowed uncontrollably again, and she threw herself into Asher's arms without a word.
In fact, Avery had always been strong. Asher had been mocked as a waste for three years, and while others laughed at him, they laughed at her too, yet she had persisted and hadn't divorced.
She was a typical strong woman, not easily brought down by any difficulty, and she hadn't cried for many years, almost forgetting what it felt like.
But recently, she didn't know how many times she had cried, feeling wronged and even more so for Asher.
After all, she was just a woman.
On the couch, Asher gently held Avery. It was the first time she had thrown herself into his arms, but he was strangely not excited.
Holding Avery's soft body, trembling slightly, Asher chuckled, "I think before this, I should leave a descendant."
"Asher, what are you talking about? Didn't you say you had a way? Is there really no way at all?" Avery suddenly looked up, angry at him.
"What else can I do?" Asher shook his head gently, at a loss for ideas.
"Then call the police. I don't believe they dare do anything to you with the police around!" Avery said through gritted teeth. "We'll stay in touch, and the moment you're in danger, send me a signal, and I'll call the police immediately!"
"Heh, that's one way to do it," Asher said, looking at Avery tenderly. It was rare for his wife to be so concerned about his affairs, and he didn't want to refute her.
Calling the police might work, but only temporarily. The police couldn't protect him 24/7, and the powerful Parker family could eliminate him in countless ways if they really wanted to.
Avery bit her lip, looked down, and said softly, "I just finished my period a couple of days ago; these next few days are my safe period, so trying won't get me pregnant." Saying this, Avery's cheeks turned a slight red.
"What if it does happen?" Asher seemed to perk up. Avery saying this meant her heart was wavering.
"It's all scientifically based; definitely won't happen. Besides, I'm not in the mood," Avery said, blushing and glaring at Asher, annoyed. "At a time like this, you're still thinking about these things!"
