Chapter 153 I’m Tired, Mom... So Tired

Adrian

I slowly woke up and stared at the ceiling, blinking lightly. I had a sharp headache, and my body felt strangely exhausted. This ceiling looked familiar... It was my room. I looked to the side and found an IV beside me. Panic hit me when I remembered what had happened earlier.

I sat up straight and found Marcus in front of me.

“Evelyn!” I said in panic.

“She’s fine, Adrian, don’t worry. She’s sleeping like an angel!” Marcus replied calmly.

I relaxed and tried to get up, but Marcus gently placed her hand on my shoulder.

“Adrian, calm down. Trust me, she’s fine. You need to finish the IV, please... for me!”

“You’re not lying to me, right?” I asked worriedly.

“When have I ever lied to you?” Maro replied calmly.

“Never.”

I lay back down, my eyes staring at the ceiling as I tried to gather my confused thoughts.

“How did you get here? What happened, Mom?” I asked strangely.

“We came at the right moment. Did you forget that we were watching everything?” Maro said.

“I was confused, Mom. Right... what about Mrs. Miran? Did you leave her there alone?” I asked in shock.

Maro was silent for a moment, then gave me a mysterious smile.

“What? Miran? We didn’t bring her with us!”

My eyes widened, and my heart began beating with fear.

“What? Mom, how could you leave her? Her bastard husband ran away with his son, and she was sleeping in the house. Is she going to stay alone? I mean... I...”

“I’m joking,” Maro interrupted with a warm smile as she held my hand. “She’s resting in her room too... but were you worried about her?”

I realized what I had done and cleared my throat awkwardly.

“What? No... I wasn’t worried about her. Let her go to hell... I mean, it was just a question.”

I tried to avoid looking into her eyes, but Maro laughed quietly.

“You look cute when you make up excuses,” she said with a small laugh, hugging me gently. I rested my head on her shoulder tiredly as she stroked my hair with affection.

“I know you have a good heart, Adrian. You don’t hold a grudge against anyone... I know you’re still worried about her, son, and it doesn’t bother me... not at all. She’s your mother.”

I sighed sadly, my voice low and weak. “But she doesn’t love me, Mom. I only care about her because she’s the one who gave birth to me, you know? I tried to hate her. I tried to hate her. I tried to hurt her... but I couldn’t do it. Mom, I feel weak when it comes to her.”

I felt my weakness as I admitted it, as if all the walls I had built around my heart were slowly falling apart.

Maro gently rubbed my back, fully aware of how exhausted I was mentally and physically.

“Son, no matter what, she’s your mother. I understand you,” she said with deep kindness, and her words were like a balm to my tired soul.

“I’m tired, Mom... so tired,” I whispered weakly.

Maro sighed sadly, her voice becoming more serious. “Adrian, I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but there’s a missing piece. Think, son... I feel like Miran is hiding something.”

I pulled away from the hug and looked at her with furrowed brows.

“What do you mean, Mom?”

“On the helicopter, she looked afraid for Evelyn,” she said confidently.

I was surprised and laughed lightly.

“What? How could she be afraid for Evelyn? Mom, you’re imagining things!”

“I know body language well, and I know she wasn’t pretending. Son, she was afraid for you... very afraid.” Maro’s voice was serious and firm, making me stop laughing.

I remembered last night, when I wanted to fight Kai, and my nose started bleeding during it. I saw Miran’s strange reaction at the time, but I didn’t pay attention to it. Now, the pieces were starting to come together in my mind.

“This doesn’t seem right. I mean, why would she be afraid for Evelyn? Or for me?” I said sarcastically, trying to ignore the growing worry inside me.

“That’s what I’ll try to find out. Also, she looks very familiar to me... I don’t know where I’ve seen her before,” Maro said absentmindedly, as if she were trying to remember something from far away.

I looked at her with slight amusement.

“Mom, are you a detective and I don’t know about it?”

Maro laughed strangely. “It was my dream to become a police detective, son, but I couldn’t.”

“Oh, and why don’t I know about this?”

“It was a dream, son... don’t worry about it. Rest now. I’m going to rest because I haven’t slept,” she said with clear exhaustion.

I noticed how tired she was and felt a wave of gratitude for having her here.

“You look tired, Mom. Go, don’t worry about me. I’m fine now.”

“Hmm... I’ll go after you take your medicine in front of me,” Maro insisted.

I rolled my eyes with a sigh.

“Mom, I’ll take it.”

“I know you won’t, so I’m not moving from here.”

“Fine, I’ll take it. Wait, how did you get here, Mom? With Alexander?”

“He was talking to Martin, and I happened to hear. I was worried, son, so I insisted on coming.”

“Mom, you know I’m afraid for you... and that was dangerous!” I said tensely, feeling guilty for being the reason she had put herself in danger.

“I’m sorry, son, I couldn’t stay, especially when I heard that someone was injured,” she said with the same tension.

“It’s okay, Mom. I’m just afraid something might happen to you.”

“I know, son. Come on, take your medicine.”

I took the medicine and swallowed it under her watchful eyes. Maro saw me do it and smiled in relief.

“Now I’m relieved. I’ll go.” She stroked my hair affectionately and stood up. I hugged her tightly for a moment before she left the room.

“Okay, Mom. Please, call Dominic. I need him,” I said as I lay back down.

“Okay, son.”

Maro stood and left, leaving me alone with my tangled thoughts. I started thinking about everything, trying to connect the scattered pieces in my mind. Confusion and worry grew inside me, especially after Mom’s words about Miran. What was she hiding? Why did she look so familiar to her?

I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to calm my troubled mind. But the image of Evelyn sleeping like an angel kept haunting me, and the feeling of weakness toward her was growing stronger. I knew there was something happening behind the scenes, something bigger than I imagined. I had to find out what it was.
