It Might Destroy Him!
It Might Destroy Him!
Megan walked into her apartment and dropped weakly on the couch, her head felt like it was about to burst open and to be honest, she prefers that it does so.
She looked stupidly at the wall but not a single thought was in her mind or brain.
She sighed and stood up, before walking into her room.
Megan stood under the shower with her eyes closed, she made no move to wash her body but allowed the water to pour from her head down to her body.
Her mind brought her back to the meeting she had with the man she had left with.
“You love him, right? And you want the best for him?” He had asked.
“Yes, I do. But, I won’t do that to him, it might destroy him!” She had responded to his words.
The man had smirked mischievously, “And you think Nathan would let him be tarnished? Then you don't know him well enough. Besides, you don't seem to love Evans as much as you say you do.” The man said it like he was very disappointed.
“I do! What does this have to do with my love for him? You’re not me so I wouldn't blame you if you doubted my love for him.” Megan had said irritably.
Only she knew how much she had secretly desired and loved her Bestfriend and seeing someone who didn't even know much about her deny her love that way, it pissed her off.
The man looked deeply at her, then shook his head with a sigh, “If you love him, then you should know the way he is going is wrong and that Nathan is slowly turning him into something frowned at by society. He is slowly becoming…Disgusting!” The man showed an irritated face then shook it off and took a step closer to Megan, as he continued, “Love means saving the person even if it might cost you so many things.”
Megan sat frozen.
The man patted her back with a soft chuckle, “Stop acting all tense. Since you also detest Nathan then this shouldn't be too hard for you. Besides, we are only targeting Nathan and remember it will not only be beneficial to you but also to your family business. Think about it.” He said and without waiting for a response from Megan, the man walked out of the cafe.
Megan snapped back to her senses and turned off the shower, she covered her body with a towel and then walked out of the washroom.
She sat down in front of her dressing mirror and traced her face on it, “This is such a tempting offer…”
Nathan sat in front of his father as they played the game of chess. The battle was tough, and the winner could not be predicted.
Both men were silent and focused, then Nathan suddenly moved a piece which turned things around for his father and made him win.
“You’re a bit distracted today.” Nathan’s father, Akon, said matter-of-factly.
“Huh?”
Akon looked up then furrowed his brows, and then he continued to pack the games. “Your mood affected your game—Impatient, irritated and fierce anger.” He stated, then looked up and gazed at his son like he could see through his soul.
“Are you facing any difficulties, Son?” Akon asked steadily.
Nathan froze, then returned to his calmness. He showed an indifferent look on his face, then shook his head, “Just a bit stressed, Father. I actually came to discuss it with you.” He said, then sat up straight.
His father was at first surprised because ever since Nathan had taken over the company, he had single-handedly brought the company to the top and had not really faced a problem.
“Tell me, son.” He also sat up to listen to his son.
“Father, how important are the family heirlooms to the Collins family?”
Akon was stunned, though he didn't know why his son had asked this, he still thought about it seriously before responding.
“They’re all important, because they had been passed down from one generation to another, and they also represent so many things in the Collins family. Some contain lots of emotions and can't be lost, just like the Jade ring of your grandmother.”
Nathan froze after he heard his father’s last words, he gulped but managed to remain indifferent, as he looked at his father, “What do you mean, Father?”
Akon frowned in deep thought as he began to explain, “Actually, that ring has a special meaning to your grandma. Your grandpa had found your grandma who had been trafficked by human traffickers. She had escaped but got lost in the woods with lost memories. Your grandpa had found her in the woods and brought her home but the only thing on her was the ring tied around her neck.”
“Oh…?” Now, Nathan was beginning to have headaches and regrets.
His father continued, “Your Grandma's wish was to find her family and who she is, and even on her deathbed, I remembered she had lamented about it. I’ve been trying to search but it just feels like she has appeared out of the blue. So, literally, that ring is the only identity of your Grandma and she had passed it down, because she wanted someone related to her to wear it around and maybe, one day her family would recognise the ring and use that to trace her.” He explained it all and let out a sad sigh as he remembered his mother.
Nathan was speechless.
Nathan drove his car back home. He had actually wanted to stay in the family’s house for tonight but he felt guilty after hearing his Grandma’s story.
He picked up the phone, called his Assistant as he drove and connected it to Bluetooth.
“Boss!” Assistant Caleb’s voice rang out.
“I’ll send you an image in 20 minutes with some information. I want you to do everything you can to find that object. According to Jesse, he had lost it, but… Just try to find it.” He ordered as he drove into the car garage of his home.
“Okay, boss! Good night.”
“Hmm.”
Nathan came down from his car and walked to his door, he keyed in his passcode and walked in but was surprised by the light that was turned on.
His brows furrowed in deep confusion as he knew he had always put off the light. Or…
He looked around and his eyes met with another gaze. He froze for a second, then frowned after he recognised the face.
“What are you doing here, Jesse?!” He asked irritably.
He really didn’t want to see Jesse for now after hearing the story behind the ring.
Nathan walked in as he talked, but realised Jesse hadn’t responded to him. He raised an eyebrow and looked at Jesse again and this time he was surprised to see that Jesse was putting on his bathrobe.
When had he come?
“Why are you standing there? I asked a question!” Nathan questioned with his cold gaze fixed on him.
“Nathan, who owns this?”
