Jesse’s Visit
Jesse’s Visit
Evans walked with his head lowered as he strolled through his phone checking the latest news on the internet.
Suddenly, his way was blocked and when he looked up, he saw it was the people he knew—Leo and Megan.
He was stunned at first and only came to his senses when Leo patted his back hard, which made him frown.
“What are you both doing?” He asked with a frown, then trailed his gaze to Megan’s leg. Seeing her standing comfortably, he let out a snort, which Megan returned with a proud smile, leaving Evans speechless.
What was there to be proud of?
“Hey, man! Megan came to me and said you broke up with your recent girlfriend. She suggested we cheer you up, so here we are, welcoming you like a king!” He laughed hard after his words and Evans who was at first stunned by his words laughed with him.
Girlfriend..? How funny!
He glared at Megan's but seeing her gentle smile, he scoffed.
Did she think she would be forgiven with these little tricks of hers?
Even at that thought, Evans couldn't help but laugh along as they dragged him towards the cafeteria.
He was glad he had them, because he really didn't know how he was holding on with those pent-up feelings inside him.
Nathan sat in the main seat during an intense meeting. His legs were crossed and his gaze was focused on the projector which displayed some drugs which his Pharmaceutical research centre was busy with.
Suddenly his eyes turned cold and his fingers which had been tapping on the table paused. The temperature in the room suddenly lowered and the people in the meeting room, especially the one who was giving a detailed explanation about the researcher's development.
He swallowed hard as he looked at his boss whose aura had become so cold.
“What do you mean by they would need more funds and also time, Manager Dior?” Nathan suddenly fixed his dark eyes on the man.
Manager Dior’s heart paused, his body trembled and his brain suddenly became blank as he looked at those eyes that seemed to be able to see through his soul and he went into a daze.
“Pres-President Collins..?” He called shakenly but Nathan didn't care about him.
“How could you tell me funds are not enough?! When we brought this research project up, the estimated funds were 300 thousand dollars, and the time limit was 6 months, but tell me how much we spent on them?! Close to a billion dollars! And it's almost a year but no result, do you all take my company as a relaxed place?! If those fools can't do anything, why can't you recruit new blood whose brains are active?!” He yelled sharply, then hit his palm on the table.
His eyes became colder as he looked at every one of them, “If —”
“Boss!”
Nathan tilted his head when his assistant approached him with an anxious face. He knew that his assistant wasn't a rash person and for him to interrupt him, then, there should be a problem.
Nathan raised an eyebrow, then listened carefully as Assistant Caleb bent to whisper words in his ears, “Sir, Eldest master, Jesse is here. And he’s threatening to barge in if you don't see him.”
Nathan’s body went still at the information. He immediately felt an instant headache and his heart beat raced.
He couldn't help but rub his head. He nodded his head at his assistant then turned to the people who sat nervously waiting for him to decide.
He then issued a final order, “If I don't see results in two months, then submit your resignation letter or I will make you all vomit every amount spent stupidly!”
Done giving his orders, he stood up and left the meeting room, not caring about how he had thrown them into a panic state.
Nathan stopped in front of his office and the moment he opened the door, he saw a slender figure sitting with crossed legs on the couch reading a magazine.
His breath hitched at the beautiful sight in front of him and the desire came rushing back again.
Jesse who had felt his presence raised his head and sparks flew when their eyes met. A bright smile bloomed on his face as he rushed to hug him.
“Nath! I miss you!” He cried out as he hugged his waist tightly. “I swear, I would have barged in if you came any later.” He muttered.
Nathan's body stiffened as he felt the warmth of the man.
He didn't hug him back, he just couldn't. Something inside him kept stopping him from moving forward. And he knew what it was…
The Voice record Evans had let him listen to at the beginning.
He wanted to believe that record wasn't true, but…Jesse wasn't giving him the chance.
He didn't even tell him what was going on and it made his doubt grow.
“Let go!” Nathan suddenly ordered coldly which stunned Jesse.
He let go and watched as Nathan walked behind the table to sit in his office seat.
He looked at him in disbelief. He couldn't believe Nathan had yelled at him. He stood there just looking at Nathan in shock, then it dropped, one and the rest kept gushing out but he didn't scream, didn't complain, it was just his shoulders trembling and also his sniffles.
Nathan who had wanted to remain indifferent turned weak at the sound of the silent heartbreaking cries.
He sighed and tightened his lips to stop himself from being soft. He looked up, then spat, “Why crying?! Do you feel the pain of being ignored? I only ignored you for two days and you’re crying, but what about me?!” He roared.
His chest heaved angrily as he remembered how he had drunk and cried.
“Nath…I—”
“Shut up!” Nath interrupted him, “You went with your manager right?” He suddenly stood up and walked towards Jesse powerfully.
Jesse was shocked, and as he watched Nathan pressed on, he shook his head while moving back but Nathan kept walking towards him.
“Did you cheat on me with your manager?!” He asked again.
Jesse’s eyes turned pitiful as he stretched his hand to invoke pity out of Nathan but he avoided her hands.
“Don't give me that pitiful look, Jesse! Answer my darn questions!”
