Jesse’s Call

Jesse’s Call
Evans stiffened and turned around stiffly to look at what he was told to check out, but when he saw the document on the table, he got confused.

“What do you mean?” he asked.

Nathan didn't bother raising his head as he responded to his question, “Nothing much, I just want to remind you of something, as I don't want to put you in trouble. We still have this little relationship.”

Evans swallowed, then moved to pick up the document on the table, but his face turned pale after reading the place which had been circled with a pen by whoever. He raised his head in panic and looked at the man sitting relaxingly without paying attention to him and wondered why he never knew Nathan had a dark side too.

“What do you mean by this, Nathan?” he gulped, then raised the document in his hand, “Are you playing with me? You mean I can't break this relationship unless you say so? And what the hell do you mean by "I would pay a sum of money for your mental health damage if I still insist on leaving?!”

Nathan whose head was buried in work finally raised his head to look at the angry man. He smiled charmingly, raised his brow and looked at the document in the hands of Evans, before lowering his head back to his work, then he spat out, “You can still leave if you want.”

Evans heaved angrily, he wished he could smash the papers in his hand on Nathan’s handsome face.

He hadn't thoroughly read through the contract when he signed it and didn't know there was an unfair clause in it and now that he had signed it, there is no going back. The thought of it annoyed him. There was something at the corner of his heart that heaved a sigh of relief.

Without looking at Nathan, he picked up his bag and dragged it up again. “A man can take revenge anytime and it's not a bad choice to stay low for now!” He muttered as he pulled his bag along.

What Evans didn't know was that the man who had acted like he was busy raised his head to watch him struggle with his bag and when he heard his word, the corner of his lips tugged up in a gentle smile.

Nathan looked at the words on the document and realised he had been typing gibberish on the blank sheet. It was hard to concentrate when a certain young man was throwing a tantrum.

“I think this will keep you in check for a while,” he muttered, then cleared up the gibberish he had written and began with his job.

On the other side of the city, the Hart Family…

The sitting room was without a soul, as it seemed the family had gone out to do their thing. Suddenly, the phone which was lying on the table made a shrill sound. It rang for a long time before a maid rushed out of the kitchen to pick it up.

“Hello, the Hart house, here.” The maid greeted and waited for the person on the other end of the phone to speak but even after waiting for a minute, the other line remained silent with only the sound of soft breathing.

The maid moved the phone away from her ear and looked at it in confusion. “ Hello? Why aren't you saying anything?” She asked.

After some heaving, a tiny sound was finally heard, “Aunt Mel… are my parents at home?”

The maid stood in shock after hearing the familiar voice, she couldn't believe what she heard, her hand trembled, “Jesse..? Is that you, the eldest young master?!” she asked with a trembling voice.

The voice on the other end paused, muttering a small “Yes..”

Aunt Mel stood in shock, then suddenly bounced in excitement, “Young master, where have you been?! Do you know how your parents live in panic every day? Do you know how your mother became sick? Please come back home—”

“Aunt Mel—!” Jesse interrupted her nagging, his voice was loud and irritated which startled the auntie, then she realised she had been nagging too much and hadn't even asked him why he had called but Jesse also didn't wait for her and ordered, “Give the phone to my mother!”

“But..Madam and the rest are not home..” She explained anxiously.

Jesse paused for a bit, “Call them back! Tell them I will call back in 30 mins and this isn't my phone. I only have 40 minutes, so tell them to come back before 30 minutes and if they don't, tell them I will be dead!”

The aunt was shocked by his words,  and she realised this was serious, her body became tense and her lips trembled but she still managed to tell him not to worry.

After about 30minutes, the phone rang again and this time, it was picked up faster and not just by one or two but everyone rushed to pick it up, but it later ended up in the hands of Mr Hart.

“Hello, son! Jesse? Is that you?!” He asked nervously with hope in his eyes.

“Yes, Dad!”

Mr Hart’s eyes lit up in Excitement and he was about to ask about where his beloved son was when he was interrupted.

“Dad, please, I don’t have much time. Can you send some money to the account I’m about to call? I’m going through a lot here and need to settle some debt and also buy a ticket so I can come back home. Daddy, I’m tired and tortured.” He cried after his words which made the hearts of his family bleed.

This was their beloved son, the one they had never allowed to suffer one bit.

“Where’re you son?! What the hell is going on?!” His father asked worriedly then nodded to his family to tell them everything was okay.

Jesse's sobs sounded next, it was soft and heartbreaking like he had gone through a lot.

The heart of his mother couldn’t take it anymore and she rushed to snatch the phone away from her husband’s hand.

“Hello, baby..? My baby… What’s going on? Where are you? Tell mother!”

“Mother…I don’t have much time, can you guys send money to the account I’m about to call? I’ll be back before the end of the month, I promise.” Jesse promised gently which calmed the mother down a bit.

The account was called out and it was written in a book.

After the call ended, the family sat still in shock, it was like they could still hear the sound of their beloved son crying.

“He’ll be fine, right?” Mrs Hart asked nervously.

“Yes, he will!”
