Chapter 89 Chapter 89
Chapter 89 Chapter 89
Jace's POV
After I heard that Celine was still alive, I became broken. I cannot believe that she truly avoided me for this past six months. I had this deep feeling that Clara had helped her twin sister to escape me. But there was nothing that I could do.
Clara had been my girlfriend before we got engaged and became married. It was only right to Celine that I continued with my marriage with her twin sister, but after Clara's betrayal and the fact that she allowed me to have sex with her sister, I cannot bring myself to look at her face again with that same level of interest like before.
My heart had already chosen what it wanted.
As Clara wanted to come and comfort me, to pretend like she never knew where her twin sister was, I couldn't just stand her. So I stood up and made my way to my room on the top floor.
I locked the door, not interested in seeing Clara or anyone tonight.
My phone rang out, and though I had no interest of seeing who was calling me, I checked and saw that it was Roy.
"Hello boss, I just got a call that all the money in Celine's account had been debited. Are you aware of this!" Roy asked, and I tried to still myself and responded to him.
"Yeah. I am aware. Don't worry about it. Contact the police and tell them to drop the case and not bother to search for Celine again. She has already contacted Luca and informed him that she was alive and okay. And we don't need to continue the search for her."
"Oh!" Roy was at a loss for words.
After a while, he replied, "Alright boss. I will get to it."
"Okay," I replied, and the phone call ended.
I went to take my seat on the bed and went through Celine's profile page. Before she went missing, I had already added her page in that three months of our marriage. I had wanted to tell her the truth then that I knew that she was pretending, but I held myself back. As I was scared of losing her. Now, I have completely lost her, when I could have been honest with her.
Unable to bear the burden raging in my heart, I started typing a response to her chat, hoping that she would notice that she left a big impact on me. And no matter how hard that I tried to forget about her, I still cannot let go. I still couldn't forget about her.
So I began to type...
Hey Celine, It's been six months since I heard from you, and saw your beautiful face and ate your food. Six months of missing you terribly. I tried to reach out to you, but I couldn't bring myself to do it after we got married. Nine months had gone by and it all felt like yesterday. I knew you were pretending with me, but I was scared that if I admitted the truth then I would lose you. As hard as it was for me, I didn't know when I started falling for you. I know that you left because of Clara and she was your twin. But I want to let you know that I don't feel the same way about Clara again and you are my wife. Please come back home and let's try to resolve all these. I promise to make it right this time and acknowledge the truth to our parents and fans. Please...
I looked at the text message that I had written out, before I could hesitate to send it. As I wanted to clear it. I saw that Celine was online and I felt like if I didn't reach out to her now, I might not get to see her again.
With that thought in mind, I immediately sent the text message to her private chat, and she read it, but no matter how I waited all through the night, Celine didn't reply to me.
She read my chat and after a while of staying online, just as I wanted to give her a phone call, she went offline.
Sighing, I decided to not be in a hurry and to wait to settle my dispute with Clara. They are still sisters after all, and I know that Celine loves Clara more than anyone in the world. Even more than herself as she prioritized her sister's happiness more than hers.
I went to my bathroom and freshened up. When I got out, I changed into a comfortable robe and went downstairs to have my dinner.
Stepping out of the elevator as it stopped on the first floor, I saw Esther turning off the light in the living room as it was past 11 pm in the night.
"Chief, I thought you have retired to bed. Can I switch on the light now?" Esther asked me nervously.
"Go on and switch it on. And is there still any meal left in the kitchen? Serve me some to eat," I told Esther, just as I moved over to the dining chair to have my seat.
"Okay, sir," came Esther's calm reply as she moved over to the kitchen as quickly as she can.
As I settled on the dining chair again, waiting for Esther to come out of the kitchen, I spotted Clara walking out to the balcony on the second floor and gazing down at me.
I didn't bother to look at her, as I shifted my gaze away.
Clara adjusted her nightgown and walked towards the stairs as she came downstairs.
Just then, Esther came out of the kitchen with a tray in her hands, and walked with a hurried step to the dining table to set up my dinner in front of me.
"Thank you. You can retire for the night to sleep," I told Esther, and she bowed at me.
"Okay, sir."
I didn't want to delay Esther as it was almost midnight, but I was famished, and I knew that starving wouldn't solve my dilemma at the problem.
Also, I didn't want to give Clara the benefit of doubt that I was sad. So I sat there, picked up the spoon, and ate the small cooked rice and stew that Esther had served me.
"Jace..." Clara's voice reached out to me as she walked up to meet me in the dining room.
She stood at a distance, maybe not knowing how I would react upon seeing her again, as she witnessed how heartbroken that I had become.
"What's it?" I asked her, my voice lacing warmth, as I avoided looking at her face.
"Jace, I can understand that you are angry with me and thinking maybe I have a hand in Celine's disappearance, but I don't know anything about it," Clara said, speaking to me with a soft voice.
"I know," I gave a nod and told her, "I am not angry with you. Actually, I am angry with myself. But I already made it clear to you that I do not love you again. You made me sin against God and man, and I am married to your twin, not you. How do you expect me to still be the same man I once was to you. After what you did?"
Clara lowered her head as she heard my inquiry.
After a while, she mumbled, "I am sorry."
"It's okay. Just let me be for tonight. Goodnight," I dismissed her, not giving her any room for conversation.
