Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty-Five
Chapter Two Hundred and Thirty-Five
Rose
The hint of the light coming through the blinds makes me wince and groan. My head is pounding. I should never have drunk as much last night. There are reasons I limit myself because I can’t handle it well. I didn’t mean to drink so much, but the events of the night got on top of me. I reach for Jayce, but he isn’t there. He is always there when I wake up. I check my cell for the time. It is after eleven. That makes sense why he isn’t next to me. He would have been up for a few hours.
I go to climb out of bed, but change my mind because the second I move, I feel sick. I don’t want to be sick. I hate being sick. I call Jayce. It rings a couple of times before he answers.
“Why are you calling me from the bedroom?” he chuckles.
I groan, his chuckling hurting my head. Part of last night is a blur. I should have stayed away from the shots.
“I can’t move. Can you bring me some coffee and water, please?” I whine.
“I will be through in a minute. Do you want some food?” he asks.
“Not, not right now. I will get something soon. For now, I just need a drink.”
“Okay.”
We hang up, and I lie back down, waiting for him. Jayce strolls in with a bottle of water in one hand and a travel mug in the other with my coffee in it. He knows me too well. I take my time to sit up and rest back against the headboard, taking the coffee from him. It is the perfect drinking temperature. I take a small sip because if I drink too much at once, then I will be sick.
Jayce sits on the bed. “Rough?”
I nod. “Yes.”
“It isn’t like you to drink so much, pretty eyes.”
“I know. I didn’t mean to drink so much. I was de-stressing, something I regret now. I don’t remember the last part of the night. I am sorry if I made an idiot of myself.”
Jayce shakes his head. “No, you didn’t. You were the life of the party, but when we came up, you did say something to me that took me off guard.” He says.
Oh God! What did I say? I hope I didn’t upset him.
“What did I say?”
“You told me not to leave you. You never say that to me because you know I wouldn’t do that.”
“I am sorry. I know you wouldn’t. I guess Lillian got into my head more than I realise. I am sorry if I upset you.” That is the last thing I want.
Jayce takes my hand in his. “You didn’t upset me, Rose. I was just surprised that you said it.”
“I never meant it. I hate that she got in my head. She isn’t worth it.” I groan, shaking my head.
“It is okay, angel, please don’t drink like that again. I don’t like it when you get so drunk that you pass out and don’t remember anything the next day. I know it isn’t something you do often, but it worries me when you do.” He sighs, caressing my cheek.
I close my eyes and move into his touch. “I don’t like when I do it either.”
Jayce kisses the top of my head. “All is forgotten. Do you want a shower or a bath? It may make you feel a little better, and you can get something to eat.”
“A bath sounds nice, but only if you join me?”
“Yes, I will join you. Drink your coffee. I will start the bath.”
He kisses me softly before he disappears from the room. I feel guilty about what I said to him and about making him worry. It is the last thing I wanted. I enjoy my coffee, hoping the room will stop spinning soon. My stomach grumbles out of hunger, but I will wait a little while. Once we have our bath, I will eat something when I feel a little better. I won’t stay in bed all day, that doesn’t help much.
I am curled up in bed at four in the evening, feeling sorry for myself. I have been sick more than once. I can’t keep anything down, and I am cranky. I have no one to blame but myself for my stupidity. Jayce has been in and out, taking care of me.
“How are you feeling?” he asks, coming into the room.
“Like death warmed up. Why did you let me drink so much last night?” I whine.
“Hey, you were the one, along with Remi, sneaking shots at the bar.” He chuckles and climbs into bed next to me.
“You should have been keeping a closer eye on me.”
“I am sorry I didn’t keep a better eye on you,” he laughs.
It isn’t even his fault, but he won’t argue with me because of the mood I am in. He wraps his arms around me, cuddling me in.
“Maybe we should go for a walk? The fresh air would do you good.” He suggests.
I shake my head. “No, if I move, I will be sick. I don’t want to be sick in public, that would be embarrassing. All I want to do is stay in bed until I feel better. Will you stay with me?” I ask, batting my lashes at him.
“Yes, I can do that. Try and get some more sleep.”
“No, if I sleep too much today, then I won’t sleep tonight.” I protest.
“Yes, you will. You need some more sleep. Stop being so stubborn and sleep.”
Jayce holds me tighter, dancing his fingers up and down my back. It doesn’t take long for me to begin to drift off again. That is why he is doing it: he knows it will make me fall asleep. I would lecture him, but I can’t because I don’t have the energy.
“Rest well, pretty eyes.”
I groan and eventually, my entire body relaxes, and I fall asleep quickly.
