CHAPTER 20
NICOLE’S POV.
“Where are you from at this time?”, It was the first question that came out of Alexander’s mouth as soon as I entered in the house.
“What?” I asked him in disbelief. He looked up and took a deep breath as if to control his anger. I don’t know why he was even angry.
“You heard me,” he said, taking threatening steps towards me. A humourless chuckle left my mouth, and I rolled my eyes. It has nothing to do with him. Why is he behaving like that? Why does he even want to know?
“It’s none of your business,” I said in my mad voice, not wanting to answer his question. I don’t know if I can find my way out, but I have to try. I was about to turn around to walk but he all of the sudden gripped my wrist. I was already exhausted and here he was pissing me off more.
“What did i do this time?”, I asked in an impetuous voice already frustrated, then also removed my hand from his grip..
“Now, I need to know how much John knows. The truth, Nicole.” He narrowed his eyes at me. I froze when I heard that name and without hesitating, I began to shake my head in denial.
“I swear to God, Alexander, all he knows about is that we had dinner together and yet we are steps. He wants to use it against you and embarrass you in front of everyone. He thinks that we secretly love ourselves”, I spoke a mile a minute trying to plead my case. He was so hard to read right now, and I couldn’t tell what he was feeling at all.
He scratched his jaw as if he was trying to decide whether or not he could trust me. “The only upside to this is that he still thinks you’re have feelings for him and you can love him again”
I nodded my head in acceptance.
“Good, I want him to continue thinking you’re on his side. Seduce him and make him think that you want him so badly. Tell him that you’re working on more information.”
“Do you want me to arrange a meet up?” I asked, eager to prove to Alexander that I wanted to do everything I could to fix this.
“When the time is right for that, I’ll tell you.” He said. “Herrera is going to get what’s coming to him, but I want to do this right. I need to know what they have on you first and how serious the charges are.”
“I’m sorry I put you in this position.” I whispered, setting my hand on top of his. It was reassuring to me when he squeezed it back.
“There’s something else, Nicole.” His voice was tight, and I already knew what he was going to say next I wasn’t going to like.
“What is it?”, I asked in a low voice.
“Herrera has already proved that he’s willing to use anything against us to take us down, and that he doesn’t care what happens to you in the process, and I’m just not willing to take any more chances.”
“Okay...” I wasn’t sure what he was getting at, but it was making me nervous.
“Nicole, tomorrow afternoon, you and I are getting married.” He said calmly, staring out the window.
My face twisted in pure confusion. He couldn’t be serious. I hesitated for a few seconds, expecting him to bust into a smile in any minute. When he didn’t, I got concerned.
“Are you becoming insane Alexander?, We are steps that’s so forbidden and...”
“I’m not doing this for the traditional reasons.” He said flatly cutting me off in mid sentence. “It’s so Herrera can’t use you to testify against me. It’s called spousal immunity and it’s the only way I can make sure Herrera can’t get to either of us.”
“Are you out of your mind?” I shot up, pacing back and forth angrily in front of him. “I’m not marrying you as some sort of business deal, Alexander. It can’t happen we are fucking steps and its forbidden”
“Think of it as a business deal, or whatever the hell you want. It’s happening.” He stood up and walked towards the door. “Trust me, this isn’t how I envisioned us getting married either, but it is what it is.”
Without another word, he left, leaving me completely speechless, tears slowly striping my cheeks.
I walked in my room speechless, but suddenly the door opened again and he peaked his head in. “And by the way, let me bring the marriage contract, you going to sign it, to prove that you have accepted.”
I shook my head in disbelief. Alexander was really fucking insane.
“Shit”, I grumbled curses and threw my body on the bed to get this annoying situation out of my head. “God please help me”, I screamed while moving my body on my bed like a snake.
“God, why is my life so hard?”, I whispered in frustration while looking at the ceiling of my room. Firstly I found Jason with a bitch and now , Alexander was talking about the marriage contract.
Pounding.
My head was pounding by the time I opened my eyes in the morning.
“Ah,” I groaned, rolling over to my back as I held my hand to my forehead. There was pulsating pain on both sides of my head and when I tried opening my eyes, it worsened. Any movement triggered the ache and I laid there for a while, regretting the previous night more than ever.
Oh my God. So painful. I always had the worse headaches but luckily, I always managed to recall every single event. Everything about Jason and the bitch and also Alexander’s suggestions.
Sleep vanished from my eyes the moment my stomach groaned. Yes I was hungry but I was in dilemma. How the hell was I supposed to face Jason after what I saw him doing. I wanted to tell my mother everything but something was stopping me from telling her.
“Shit”, I winced in pain when my head hurt again. I really needed medicine.
