Don't touch My Daughter

Don't touch My Daughter
Draco's POV

I was speechless as I stared into the heat in Mariah’s eyes. Her whole face locked in a snarl. My mouth moved but could produce nothing.
“You said you wanted to explain, Draco. Just fucking do, before I lose it,” she said, her chin trembling as she spoke.
Her voice, loud and sharp, cut through me like a knife. It shredded my heart into a million pieces inside of me—so bad, it ached.
She had every right to be angry, had every right to be hurt, just like Rachel. I’d hurt and was still hurting both of them. The little pain I'd glimpsed in Rachel's eyes in the kitchen told me how desperately I needed to make this right. But I had no idea how to.
Logan grunted, leaning from the wall he was resting on, when I still couldn't speak.
He let his eyes cover I and Mariah fully as she stood beside the bed, her eyes restless. Her pained, furious gaze traveled between Logan and me and back.
Logan sighed, an unusually long sigh that earned him all of Mariah’s gaze, her face tightening harder and harder.
“Get out with whatever you want to fucking say,” she snapped.
“You know Draco and I believed you were dead. We had no idea you were alive,” Logan said.
“That still doesn't give you the right to shove your penises in my daughter.” She snapped, her voice strained by her pain, yet so sharp again it struck at my soul again, sharp as a whip.
“I’d have understood if you chose to relieve yourselves with another lady, since you horny bastards couldn't keep your penises to yourselves for two years, but then, you had to choose my own daughter. My fucking daughter!” She yelled, her voice slurred a bit, thick and heavy. She was almost not audible.
She whipped her face to me now. “For God’s sake, Draco. Logan, maybe. But I never would have expected this from you. My daughter is supposed to be your daughter too, not a girl you lay on your bed and fuck.”
I moved my lips, my throat burning with so many things I wanted to get off my heart. I wanted to tell her that I didn't mean for this to happen—that I love Rachel as I loved her—if not more. But my lips clasped shut back. My fingers trembled as I lifted it, wiping my lips with my palm to keep them from trembling too.
She turned away from me, color draining from her face. I saw her quiver as she dropped lazily on the bed. She buried her face in her trembling hands. Then I heard that low, gut-wrenching noise from her, stealing away every bit of the fragile silence that thrived between the three of us.
She wasn't one to cry, no matter the pain, no matter how much she was hurting—that she did so now told me the extent of her pain.
I was also hurting, my heart tightening and shrinking into itself until I couldn't feel it anymore, and all I could feel was pain.
But my pain didn't matter. I swallowed it up, just letting it burn through me as I watched her hunched in on herself and heard those careful, painful sobs coming from her.
My legs felt like lead under me, heavy, as I ambled carefully towards her. I moved to grab her shoulders to bring her up to me. She shrugged off my grip as if my hands burned her, shifting on the bed from my reach.
“You have to understand, Mariah. We didn't know she was your daughter at first—” Logan said, moving forward, towards her too.
He froze cold on his feet when she raised her eyes to him, red and dank with tears. She glared hard at him with her watery gaze. “Don't you dare give me that line, Logan.” She snarled, sitting up, her nose flared up, her eyes threw daggers at him. “You know I’d search through the ends of the earth for my daughter. You’d even helped me search for her. And then you happened by a girl of her age bracket who looks just like me, and you didn't think she would be my daughter. You obviously can't be that stupid not to know.”
Logan grunted, thrusting his fingers into the curly bundle of his hair. “I have seen dozens of ladies that look like you, Mariah.” Logan yelled at her through clenched teeth. “I know I should have suspected at first, but I just didn't think your daughter was alive then, and by the time I realized she was your daughter, I had wanted her and desired her. I had loved her.”
“You love her,” Mariah repeated, then she scoffed, a mocking twist to her lips. “And I am supposed to believe the man who changes girlfriends every week, doesn't believe in love, and has always ridiculed it is in love with my daughter. If that doesn't sound stupid to you, it sure does to me.”
Logan tried to speak again, and he hesitated, staring at her for a moment, straight into the hate that darkened her eyes for him. He shrugged his shoulders, turning away to the wall he had previously been leaning on.
“It might sound stupid to you. But that's the reality now. People change. And what's important is that she loves me too.”
“Don't give me that crap.” Mariah yelled, waving her hand as if to dismiss his statement with it. “She is just twenty-three. You made an impression on such a young girl. What did you expect?”
Logan leaned back on the wall. Then he turned, glancing away from Mariah's penetrating glare. For probably the first time in my life, I saw his lips part open and close without a word.
Mariah sat up further, her gaze intense, pinning him to the wall. “Did you tell her about your mother? That you vowed not to give your heart to any woman on her grave, just because you blame yourself for her death. Because you believe it was your fault for not loving her enough that caused her death instead of your father's madness. Did you tell Rachel all that, and she still loves you? I highly doubt that. You just fed her the usual fairytale nonsense so she could think she loves you,” she scoffed again.
Logan said nothing again. He just stared down at his shoes, silenced by her once again. “And you,” she shifted on the bed to me. Her tears had dried off her eyes, leaving long silvery imprints on her cheeks, and a snarl that strung her facial muscles tight against themselves as she glared at me. “You can't love anyone else but me. It is impossible. I am the only woman in the world who owns your heart. That is the one thing I ever truly own. And you won't dare give it to anyone, not even my own daughter."
“But Mariah—”
She stopped me with another hard, penetrating glare, feeding me every hate she could gather from her soul through her eyes.
I hesitated at first, snapping my lips closed. But then I thought of Rachel, the hurt she must be feeling right now. The image of her in the kitchen earlier with her eyes heavy, carrying all the burden of my mistakes. I just couldn't let that go on. “I love Rachel, Mariah. I truly do.”
“No! You don't,” she snapped, her eyes cold. “No! You don't fucking love her. You love me. And…” She let her gaze wander to Logan and me. “Both of you should stay away from my daughter. Else… I would spend the rest of my life trying to kill both, coming for your lives when you least expect it. After I have gotten it, then I’ll take me with you. At least, in hell we will all be together, and you won't be able to lay your perverted hands on my daughter again.” She yelled as she jerked up to her feet.
“Mariah!” I called out to her, following after her as she stomped out of the room.
And just when I got to the door, she swung it hard back for me.
I had to jump out of the way to let it swing past me. It hit the wall, sending a reverberating cry through the room.
“That right there is a feral beast you refused to tame, Draco.” Logan said, striding closer from behind me. He patted me on the shoulder. He didn't wait to get the hard stare I turned to give him as he strode quietly out of the room.
Rage heated up my veins as I followed his figure disappearing down the hallway. But I wasn't angry at him but at myself. My fingers folded into a thick fist beside me, and I threw it against the wall. Another sharp noise echoed in the room, and the wall vibrated beneath my fists. How did I get myself into this fucking mess?
