17. The Joy Ride.
[Ace]
I'd never been as terrified as I was today, Emily hadn't even noticed that she was being followed by two heavily tattooed scary men, they were members of the Mafia Lords and I had to be discreet in my looking out for Emily.
She was leading them straight to her house and who knows what those fuckers would have done to her had I not gotten there on time.
I'd gone to her house to see her because my dream kept haunting me. I saw her parents leaving the house and I took that as my cue. I climbed into her bedroom from a tree beside her house but it was empty.
Good thing about a nerd is that you can always trust them to be organized, it had not taken long for me to find out that she'd gone to church for confession.
I frowned when I thought about what she had to confess, maybe the boss was right, maybe there was something that she was hiding.
I watched her as she walked out of the church, dressed in a long black gown with a white rosary on her neck, her face had streaks of tears like she'd just been crying and her hair was neatly packed into a bun behind her head.
Her lips were pursed and her brows were creased as she walked along like she had all the care of the world on her shoulders, I was about to approach her when I noticed the men stalking her, I turned away from her swiftly and find a good hiding spot, when I realized that she was leading them to her house that was empty, I realized their intent and I knew I had to stop her from reaching home.
I pulled her into the alley I was hiding in, my mouth over her mouth to stop her from screaming. She kicked and scratched like a cat, even biting my hand but I didn't let her go until she calmed down.
After I made sure that she wasn't still being followed, I started to think of ways to keep her from going home at least till her parents had gotten back home.
"Do you want me to kiss you?" I blurted out when she was chewing my ear off, I couldn't focus on the words coming out of her mouth, just her moving pink lips and I couldn't help but want to taste it again.
"What?" She looked at me in shock and I wouldn't have been surprised if she slapped me but then she blushed and turned away from me.
"Do you?" I pushed her back against the wall and stood in front of her.
She looked down, biting her lips and I brushed my lips against her soft cheek.
"Em." I groaned as I raised her chin up with my fingers. "Look at me." I told her.
Her mouth hung open as her wide brown eyes met mine, I leaned down about to kiss her before I heard a loud noise behind us.
"Hey, you!" I turned towards the noise and I hissed.
"Shit." I pulled away from Emily and grabbed her hand. "Run."
"What?"
I did not wait to answer her, I pulled her and we began to run away, thankfully the person that was after me was not one of the Mafia Lords, they must have realized that they'd lost her and gone back to where they came from.
The fucker running after me was part of a rival gang, I'd beat up his brother and broken his legs because he was a disgusting swine of a man and he's brother had seen me.
He'd promised to skin me alive the next time he caught me and I didn't want today to be that next time, besides I was with Emily and I'd never risk her getting hurt.
"Why are we running?" Emily asked and tried to pull her hand from mine.
"No questions please, just run." I told her.
We ran till we got to my motorcycle and then we sped off before the mad man caught up to us, he flung a bottle at us but thankfully I was already on the road and the bottle didn't hit us, he kept threatening and swearing as I rode away.
"Who was that man?" Emily asked when we finally stopped.
"Never mind him, he was after me, sorry I put you in that position." I said, staring at her.
"What did you do to him?" She asked.
"Nothing." I said.
"Then why was he after you?" She frowned.
"Oh I didn't do nothing to him but I might have beat up his brother pretty badly." I chuckled.
"Beat up?" Her scowl deepened.
"Yeah, I might have broken his two legs."
"Oh my God." She gasped and flinched from my touch.
"I caught him doing something bad." I frowned. "He is a pig and he deserved worse." I said.
"Nobody deserves that, how could you break his legs?" She shook her head.
"Pretty simple really, I just grabbed him by his—"
"Ace!"
"Oh, you didn't want details?" I smirked.
"Please take me back home." She frowned.
Are you scared of me?"
"You haven't done anything wrong baby girl, you have no reason to fear me." I smirked at her and leaned down to her ear level. "Yet." I added and chuckled when she shivered.
"Besides If I wanted to punish you, I think you would really enjoy it." I added just to tease her.
"Stop." She pushed me away angrily. "If you don't take me home, I'll walk back by myself."
"Fine, fine, I'm sorry." I apologized. "You must be hungry, why don't I take you somewhere to eat."
"Donna's place." Her eyes lit up and I looked at her with an amused grin on my face.
"Sure, why not?"
"Do you know that motorcycles are the most dangerous means of transportation?" She asked as I climbed onto my bike.
"Please get in."
"I don't understand why you cannot get a car like everyone else." She murmured as she sat down behind me.
"Baby girl, for the same reason why I'm not like everyone else." I smiled and pulled her arms around my waist.
"Hold on tight, I'm not slowing down for anything."
"Ace!" She yelled as I sped off. "You're going to get us killed."
"Just relax, do you know anything about having fun?" I asked as I tilted the bike from side to side, laughing wildly.
"Having fun!" She yelled angrily. "This is not having fun."
She kept on screaming till we got to Donna's place.
"Hey Donna, look who decided to show up." I smiled as I entered the restaurant.
"Emily, oh my God." Donna smiled and rushed to give her a hug.
"Donna." She smiled. I didn't realize how much the two of them cared about each other until now.
Donna was always asking about her but I thought it was just because I lied that Emily and I were dating.
"I'll get you to your table." Donna smiled and walked us to our booth.
"I'll let you settle in and I'll check right back." She smiled and before walking away she winked at me.
I saw Jenna serving a table nearby and I hoped Donna wouldn't send her to our table.
"So, what are you going to have?" I asked Emily, she had been quiet since Donna left.
"Um… I don't know, anything is fine." She looked behind her and she frowned.
"Don't worry, Donna won't send her here again." I said and covered my hands on hers.
"No, that's not it." She said and snatched her hands away.
"Then, what is it?" I asked, feeling concerned.
"I'll get scolded by my parents and God probably is upset with me." She said and I sighed.
I'd never met such a naive person in my life before and I had no idea what to say to her right now.
"What if I tell you that your parents won't find out and you won't have to sin against God because you won't have to lie to them."
"They will, I should have been home a while ago." She said sadly. "If my father gets too upset, he may send me a—" she stopped abruptly.
"Don't worry, I saw your parents leaving the house before I saw you in the alley, I'll get you home before they get back." I said.
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah, so now what do you want to eat?"
"Why are you doing this?" She frowned.
"Doing what?"
"This." She said gesturing between the both of us. "Hanging out with me, talking to me, don't you have somewhere else to be, I don't know, cooler friends to hang out with."
"It may surprise you, Em but I do like talking to you, I find myself at peace in your presence." I said, truthfully.
"What does that even mean?" She stood up abruptly. "You're confusing me." She said and turned to leave.
"Wait, Em." I held her hand.
"Why is it so hard for you to believe that I like hanging out with you?"
