Chapter 23 CHAPTER 23
Chapter 23 CHAPTER 23
EMILIA
"Why are you here so early in the morning?" Rosa asked, rushing to my side and wiping my face with her apron.
I stared at my half-iced cake, my hand shaking slightly. He made me bake a cake, only for him to order another?
"Emilia!"
"Huh?"
"I asked you a question," Rosa continued. "Why are you making a cake?"
I sighed, walking towards the sink to rinse my hand. "Long story, Rosa... All I can say is... I fell into the devil's trap."
She sighed, walking closer. "You need to get some rest. I was worried when I went to your room and couldn't find you."
"Thank you, Rosa." I smiled sadly. "But I can't rest even if I wanted to. I need to wash Michelle's clothes and make sure everything is in order."
"I already did all that." Her eyes glowed faintly. "Now all you have to do is make her bed when she wakes. Hope you can manage that?"
Water gathered behind my eyes. "Really?"
She nodded. "When you are done, come stay in the kitchen so she wouldn't see you to torment you, okay?"
I nodded swiftly.
"But first, eat something," she added, walking towards a pot and adding water to it. "I doubt you've had anything to eat."
A smile settled on my face, as I remembered her words. "...Andrea's staff are not as you've described them, Rosa."
She shook her head as well.
"Just a few people get to see that side of us."
"I'm lucky then." I muttered.
"No." She smiled. "You are kind."
"Yeah, today's our anniversary, girl," Michelle said, smiling into her phone.
She had decided to stay in while I made her bed. You and I know why.
"I bet he has a whole lot of surprises planned out for you." A female voice from the other end of the call vibrated across the room.
"Yes, Lisa," Michelle smiled. "My Andrea is one of a kind."
I scoffed, flapping the red satin sheets in the air. ‘One of a terrible kind,’ I murmured to myself.
I tried to be fast, but working with one hand just seemed to slow down everything.
"Did I also tell you that he planned a weekend getaway for just me and him in Paris this weekend?"
"Yes, Elle, that has been your anthem," the other person responded.
It was no secret that Michelle wanted me to hear her conversation. And at this point, I didn't know what she wanted to prove.
Wait!!!
She and Andrea were going away this weekend, right? And that's in two days... My eyes twitched as my lips curled upwards, looking at the hills outside the windows. God. I couldn't be more excited.
That news became some sort of boost to me, and I finished in no time.
"Done, ma'am," I bowed.
She shifted her eyes from her phone, scanning the bed I had made. A huff sound left her lips.
I knew she was about to find fault in what I had done.
"Can't you read the room?" she snarled.
"What room?" I chimed back almost immediately.
She sighed, as she got to her feet, catwalking towards her vanity mirror, her hips swaying from side to side. I left out a low sigh, as I watched... She was beautiful, with a nice figure, her stinking attitude just ruined everything.
"I forgot I am dealing with a dumbass girl." She said, after taking her seat, staring at me through the mirror.
I smiled slightly. That's right. She could have all the fun she wanted now. Because when I start mine... there would be no mercy.
"Today is my anniversary with my fiancé," she said triumphantly.
"Oh wow," I smiled. "Congratulations, ma'am."
She looked through her reflection, blood drained from her face.
Wait. Was she expecting me to cry?
I hit my head slightly, my the palm that was alright. "Pardon my manners, ma'am. I didn't know... You would like a makeover of your room, right? Should I bring some candles, petals, or—" I hit my head again. "Balloons, right?"
"No," she said, her face turning sour. "You think I would let you jinx it for me?"
"Jinx what, ma'am?" I gave a little smile. "You said I should read the room."
"Forget it..." she hissed.
Oops. Did I just strike a cord?
"Get lost," she barked. "And I don't want to see your face around today."
My smile deepened. Today was a good day. "Are you sure, ma'am? I can help you—"
"Shut up!" Her eyes narrowed. "Leave," she added, pointing towards the door.
I turned, walking towards the door slowly, but before I turned the knob, I faced her. "Congratulations on your anniversary, ma'am... May it not be your last."
I closed the door, not waiting to hear what she wanted to say. I smiled to myself as I walked down the hall.
Rosa was downstairs at the door, signing on something as she received a cake. Memories of Andrea came flooding back to my mind. That bastard.
I just wish I could—
"Are you planning on ruining this cake as well?" His voice interrupted me from behind.
I moved slightly, startled by his presence. Why did he always have to creep up on me?
"I have no desire to do such," I answered mechanically as I made to move, but he held me back for the second time today.
"Wifey," he started, his voice cocky as his smile. "There's no need pretending... I know you destroyed that cake last night because you were jealous. Please don't do that to the second cake, okay?"
Anger rose to my neck, as I managed to match his stupid smile.‘Was that the picture he painted in his head?’
The feeling to wipe off that smug look on his face with my fist surged through my veins... But I resisted—maybe when my hand got a bit better.
For pits sake. I was hungry, and that was why I tasted that horrible cake. I didn't even know what it was meant for.
But I wasn't going to give him the satisfactory he derived, so I pulled my hand back slowly. "No, my dear. I wasn't jealous. I just felt the cake was too spongy for an anniversary cake... Do well to enjoy this one, okay?" I smiled, turning to walk away, but he held me back.
His gaze studied mine for a second before he broke into a small laugh.
"You are jealous, and I know it, wifey. I will do well to get you a cake next time."
Why the hell was he suddenly referring to me with that stupid word... I had rather he called me ‘Stripper’ than that.
"Save your crap, my dear. Your bitch deserves it more than I do."
His eyes widened at my last statement, and this time, I walked away, damning the consequences.
"I have never seen you wear a smile so bright," Lady Katalina said as she walked towards me. "How's your hand?"
I nodded. "Fine, ma'am."
"Where are Agnes and Lucy?" I asked when I didn't hear or see them.
"They went to get groceries," she replied.
A little frown settled on my face. They should have taken me along, but I doubted Andrea would have allowed that.
"Emilia, go get some rest," Rosa said, walking into the kitchen. "You've done enough for today."
I got up from the Kitchen's countering smiling broadly. Rosa was right. I've done enough.
