Chapter 880 Like

Chapter 880 Like

Rita's heart did a little flip and then started racing. "Evan, don't say stuff that could be misunderstood."

Evelyn suddenly looked up, her big, bright eyes locked on Evan. "You like my sister, don't you?"

Kids have the sharpest instincts. When Evelyn first met Evan, she thought he was super nice because he was always good to Rita.

After not seeing Rita for a few months, she noticed Rita had changed a lot.

Before, Rita was just as scared of their family as she was, always quiet and taking their beatings and scoldings.

But this time, Rita came back braver, not showing the same fear when facing their family.

This new Rita was more beautiful and made her feel safer.

If she had the chance, she would leave this hellhole with Rita forever, never looking back and never seeing these people again

Before Evan could answer, Rita quickly said, "Evelyn, stop talking nonsense."

In front of Rita, Evelyn showed a bit of that typical kid mischief. "I'm not talking nonsense. Besides, I asked him, and he hasn't answered yet. Why are you so anxious?"

Unable to stop Evelyn, Rita turned to Evan. "Evan, she's just a kid. Don't take her seriously."

Evan looked at Evelyn and smiled. "Your sister is amazing; it's normal for someone to like her."

Evelyn said, "So do you like my sister?"

Evan nodded. "Of course, I like her."

His answer was short and direct. He was always straightforward, showing his feelings openly, whether he hated or liked something.

Rita secretly kicked him. "Don't say stuff like that in front of Evelyn."

Evan said, "Who's talking nonsense? I'm dead serious."

Rita fell silent. She didn't know what to say.

Evelyn added, "Evan, you like my sister, so you have to treat her well and never bully her."

Evan smiled and ruffled Evelyn's hair. "Alright, I promise you right here that I'll treat your sister well. If I don't, you can deal with me however you want."

But in the future, the person who would hurt Rita the most was him. By the time he realized his mistake, it was too late for regrets. Rita had resolutely escaped from his side. He searched for her for so long before finally finding her.

Evelyn excitedly looked at Rita, only to see her eyes red. "What's wrong? If you don't want to talk about it, I won't bring it up."

Rita shook her head. "Don't worry, Evelyn. I'm fine."

Evan also looked at Rita with concern. "What's wrong?"

Rita said, "I'm fine."

The more they showed concern, the more she inexplicably wanted to cry.

She quickly used the act of giving Evelyn some food to cover up her true emotions.

Evan kept staring at her. "Rita, what's really wrong?"

Rita said, "I said I'm fine. Why do you keep asking?"

Evan didn't say anything.

Rita wasn't a coward anymore. At least not in front of him; she was still a coward in front of others.

But hey, the meal still ended on a good note.

After dinner, Evelyn clung to Rita, so Rita let her have her way.

Rita dropped a few thousand bucks to book a hotel room, and Evan just watched helplessly as Evelyn dragged Rita away, feeling pretty bummed out.

Back in his room, he shot a message in their group chat: [What are you guys up to?]

He sent it, but got crickets in return.

Evan: [Owen's got a fiancée, and Charlie's got a girl he likes. I get why those two are ignoring me. But Vincent, you don't have a girl. Why aren't you replying?]

After a long pause, Vincent finally replied: [I was just chatting with my grandma.]

Evan asked: [How's your grandma doing?]

Vincent replied: [She's always been in good health.]

Evan: [You're her only grandson. Hasn't she been bugging you to get married soon?]

Vincent replied: [She's not as nosy as your grandpa.]

Evan: [That's quite a statement. You're young now, so your grandma isn't in a rush. But in a couple of years, let's see if she starts pushing you.]

Vincent: [Don't worry about me. Sort out your own stuff first.]

Evan: [I've already sorted it out.]

Vincent replied: [What?]

Evan: [I've decided to go through with the engagement. Once Rita graduates from college, we'll get married.]

As soon as he sent the message, the previously silent Charlie and Zachary immediately chimed in.

Charlie: [If you like Rita, just say so.]

Zachary: [I never thought you'd fall so fast.]

Evan: [You two finally show up?]

Charlie: [You're getting married, how could I miss it?]

Zachary: [Have you asked Rita if she's cool with marrying you?]

Evan: [She'll definitely be cool with it.]

Charlie: [Are you so sure she'll agree?]

Zachary: [Evan, tell us, why do you like her?]

This question really stumped Evan because he had never really thought about it.

Maybe he was moved by Rita's stubbornness. Or maybe he felt sorry for her and wanted to be her rock.

It could also be that Rita's looks just hit the right spot for him.

Evan didn't want to overthink it.

All he knew was that he wanted to marry Rita and spend his life with her.

Vincent: [Since you've made up your mind, treat her well and don't change your mind.]

Charlie: [Vincent, you're single. Don't lecture me.]

Zachary: [I think Vincent makes a lot of sense.]

Vincent: [If you need any help with the Smith Group, just let me know.]

Speaking of the Smith Group, Evan did have something to say. He asked: [My uncle Lonnie wants to collaborate with the Harrison Group. How's that going?]

Vincent: [He's not a good person and not competent. Working with him is too exhausting. Besides, the Smith Group is a mess right now. I don't want to get involved. But if the collaboration is with you, I might consider it.]

Vincent's words were the biggest support for Evan. With his good buddies backing him, Evan had nothing to worry about.

Evan: [Thanks, now I can go all out.]
