Chapter 876 Gradual Improvement

Chapter 876 Gradual Improvement

Evan chuckled, "You think?"

Rita shot him a look, "Are we leaving or what?"

Evan grinned, "Yeah, you said go, so here we are."

Rita hopped into the car, buckling up fast, worried he'd floor it again.

Luckily, this time Evan drove nice and easy.

As they got close to home, he finally spoke up. "Saul's a married guy. Just 'cause he's nice to you, don't get tricked into being his side chick."

Rita glared at him, fuming, "Evan, do you even hear yourself? You think I'm that low? For the last time, Saul's just my mentor, nothing else."

"I'm just looking out for you, making sure you don't get played." It was the first time Evan had seen Rita this mad, but honestly, her anger was kinda cute.

He knew there was nothing between her and Saul now, but she was amazing, and they spent a lot of time together. It wasn't crazy to think Saul might catch feelings.

As her fiancé, he felt it was his job to warn her, not just sit back and watch her get hurt.

Rita snapped, "Don't worry, I won't."

Evan teased, "Really mad?"

Rita huffed, "No!"

Evan found her adorable and laughed out loud.

Rita bit her lip in frustration. She was so mad, and he was still laughing. She decided to give him the silent treatment.

After Royce passed away, Riley hadn't been herself. Since their last meeting, Rita hadn't seen her in a while. Today, seeing her again, Riley looked worse than Rita had expected.

But seeing them come home together, Riley still managed a smile.

She had a big meal ready. "Rita, Evan told me you're still in the dorms. The school's almost empty during winter break. Is it safe for you to stay there alone?" she asked.

Rita reassured her, "Riley, don't worry. The school's security is still there, it's fine."

Riley turned to Evan, "Evan, as a man, shouldn't you be taking better care of your fiancée?"

Evan sipped his soup, acting casual, but his eyes never left Rita as he spoke, "I told her to move in with me, but she didn't want to. What can I do?"

Rita didn't want to discuss their private matters in front of Riley, so she quickly changed the subject. "Riley, you look like you've lost weight. You should eat more and take care of yourself."

Riley got the hint and didn't push further. "Alright, let's enjoy our meal. These dishes are Southern cuisine I had prepared for you, so dig in."

Rita smiled, "Okay."

She picked up some food and was about to eat when Evan kicked her under the table.

Rita looked up at him, her eyes asking, "What are you doing?"

Evan picked up a piece of meat and dropped it in her plate, asking, "You like this, so why pick something you don't?"

Rita went quiet as she thought, 'Who goes to someone else's house and only eats what they like? That's just rude.'

Evan didn't care, pushing all the dishes she liked in front of her. "At home, eat what you want. Don't force yourself to eat stuff you don't like."

Rita blushed, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Riley smiled warmly, "Rita, Evan's right. At home, eat what you like. Don't worry about the rules."

Rita nodded, "Okay."

Riley exchanged a glance with Evan and then said, "I'll have the maid prepare a room. You two can stay here tonight and keep me company."

Evan agreed, "Sure."

Rita had a flight back home at midnight. After dinner, she needed to rush to the airport and couldn't stay overnight, but she didn't know how to turn down Riley's kind offer.

While she was hesitating, Evan stepped in, "Mom, I have something to do tonight. After dinner, I'll take Rita back to school."

Riley asked, "What do you have to do?"

Riley thought, 'Didn't you just ask me to have Rita stay over, and now you have something to do? What's going on?'

Evan replied, "Big life events."

Riley chuckled, "You never take anything seriously."

After dinner, Evan didn't waste any time. He said he'd take Rita back to school, but as soon as the car left the neighborhood, he asked, "Do you really not want to stay with us?"

Rita was caught off guard and quickly explained, "I have something to do; it's not that I don't want to stay with you."

Evan asked, "What is it?"

Rita replied, "Personal business."

Evan was clearly annoyed and didn't press further.

Rita added, "Thanks for helping me out earlier!"

Evan snorted and thought, 'You ungrateful woman, at least you know I helped you out.'

They soon arrived at the school. After Rita got out of the car, Evan sped off.

Rita sighed, went back to her dorm to pack a few things, and then took a cab to the airport.

Because dinner took some time, she arrived at the airport just in time.

After passing security, she boarded the plane.

The two-hour flight landed around 2 AM.

The winter in the South wasn't as cold as in Girona, but the damp chill felt like it could freeze Rita. She instinctively tightened her down jacket.

Unexpectedly, the next second, someone grabbed the handle of her suitcase.

Rita was startled and was about to call for help when she saw it was Evan. "What are you doing here?" she asked.

Evan didn't answer but asked, "Miss your sister?"

Rita nodded, "Yeah."

Evan asked, "Do you think you can see her by sneaking back alone?"

Rita said, "We agreed on a time. It's almost the holidays, the Grey family won't notice if she's gone."

Evan stated, "They might not have noticed before, but they might now."

Rita was confused, "Why?"

Evan replied, "Because of you."

After all, she was now Evan's fiancée, and Evelyn was the person she cared about the most. The Grey family would use Evelyn to control her.

Rita vaguely understood and said, "Evan, thank you!"

Evan pulled his coat tighter and said, "It's cold. Let's find a place to stay first. Tomorrow morning, we'll inform your family that we're coming back."

Rita said, "I booked a hotel."

Evan dragged her suitcase and urged, "Then let's get a cab."

Rita hesitated, "I booked a cheap hotel. You probably won't like it. How about I book a better one for you?"
