Chapter 809: I Marry

Chapter 809: I Marry

"You don't agree?"

Patrick sneered coldly, his contemptuous gaze nothing like a father looking at his son. "Edward, if I hadn't given you the chance, could you have become president of the Wellington Group? You're getting more and more disrespectful to your father!"

Faced with the mockery, rather than anger, what Edward felt more was deep worry for Molly.

If Molly's marriage to the Bishop family was really settled, he could hardly imagine what crazy things Eric would do when he found out.

Maybe he'd drag everyone down with him. Maybe he'd be crushed and never recover.

Molly wasn't like Evelyn—a girl with a rock-solid heart who dared to fight back. She'd always been the most obedient child in the family, weak and easy to bully, always accepting whatever came her way.

And she was the one who had suggested the breakup...

"Your brother is just sick, he's not dead. Don't think that just because you became president and Grandpa dotes on you, you can rest easy and look down on everyone, even daring to offend me, your own father, repeatedly going against my decisions!"

Patrick's words carried a threatening tone. "A few days ago, I went to Mythorica to visit Caleb. He's looking much better than before."

Edward's brow furrowed. His deep, sharp eyes narrowed slightly.

"Caleb told me that once he's recovered a bit more, he'll come home and reunite with the family."

Patrick looked down at him, his words hiding a sharp edge. "Your grandfather and I have always valued the eldest son and eldest grandson most. Caleb has just been away from us too long and grown distant, which gave you the chance to show yourself in front of Grandpa.

When Caleb comes back, out of guilt your grandfather will naturally make it up to him. Whether there'll still be a place for you at the Wellington Group—you'd better think about that carefully!"

...

Late at night, Bart brought the investigation materials on the Clark Group to see Edward.

In the study, smoke filled the air.

Edward's long, slightly calloused fingers held a cigarette as he frowned and flipped through the materials, his eyes obscure and dark, concealing emotions impossible to read.

Seeing the ashtray nearly full, Bart sighed with worry. "Mr. Wellington, I know you're in a bad mood, but being stressed and smoking—it might affect your health..."

The man suddenly lifted his eyelids, looking at his secretary with eyes as cold as two blocks of ice. "Are you a health expert? Or a know-it-all?"

"Ahem... I don't know anything. Just consider me worrying for nothing."

Bart sighed. "Mrs. Wellington hates the smell of smoke, as you well know. I'm afraid when you go back tonight, if Mrs. Wellington smells it, she'll be angry with you."

"These two days, I'm staying at Riverside Villa with Molly. I already told Evelyn."

Edward's mind conjured up the image of the little woman with one hand on her hip, pouting her red lips in complaint at him, and his heart couldn't help but pound, his eyes reddening and his heart warming.

He really wanted to pull her into his arms right now, press her down beneath him, and be intimate with her...

"Mr. Wellington, you must be in a really bad mood today. Unless things were truly terrible, you'd never smoke behind Mrs. Wellington's back."

Bart asked with concern, "What exactly happened?"

"Bart, there's no problem with these materials. Send them to Mr. Huo in a bit." Edward's voice was even.

"Yes..." Seeing his boss wouldn't say, Bart couldn't probe further.

"Also, for now, distribute your current work to others. Focus on investigating the Bishop family."

Bart: "The Bishop family? Which Bishop family?"

The man's brow furrowed. "Mario."

Bart's eyes widened. "Mario?"

"Starting with Mario, then his wife, then his son Austin—dig up as much as you can for me."

Just as he finished speaking, a gentle knock came at the door:

"Edward, are you there?"

"It's Molly."

Edward quickly stood up and hurried to open the door himself.

Outside, the young woman stood awkwardly in the darkness, her fingers interlaced, tightly wringing together.

"Molly, it's so late, why aren't you asleep yet?" Edward asked with gentle concern.

Molly pressed her lips together. "Edward, can I talk to you for a moment?"

"Of course, come in."

Edward invited her in. To give the siblings space to talk, Bart temporarily stepped out.

"Molly, don't take what Dad said today to heart. No matter what, I won't let you marry into the Bishop family, and Evelyn absolutely won't agree either..."

"Edward."

Before he could finish, Molly lowered her eyes and quietly interrupted. "You and Evelyn... have already done so much for me. It's enough.

My affairs... don't get involved anymore."

Edward's heart trembled. "Molly, what do you mean?"

Molly's nose tingled with sourness. She blinked hard to hold back the tears. "I'll follow Dad's arrangement.

The Bishop family—I'll marry into it."
