Chapter 211

Chapter 211

The first one to be questioned was Violette.

During Violette's last interrogation, there was at least another woman across from her, which made it a bit less intimidating.

Now, two stern-looking men sat across from her, making it impossible for Violette not to feel nervous.

"Violette, we called you in today to clarify some details," Robert broke the silence, shattering the tense atmosphere.

Violette nodded, "Sure, I'm ready. Ask away."

"Alright, let's get started," Robert said before diving straight into the matter. "Since your last statement, we've discovered something very important. We need you to be completely honest with us."

Violette had no idea what they were referring to, so she asked, "Besides Cecilia's death, what else could be important? I've already told you everything I know."

Dennis, sitting nearby, chimed in, "Officer Davis, you might be scaring her. Maybe it's not important to her at all."

Robert shot him a look, and Dennis fell silent.

Robert continued, "Do you know anything about Cecilia drugging Nicolette's water?"

Violette looked utterly confused and shocked, "Drugging? I had no idea. What kind of drug?"

Dennis, who had already pieced together the dorm's drama, found it hard to believe Violette didn't know. "Don't you all usually know what each other is up to? How could you not know Cecilia drugged Nicolette? Sounds a bit far-fetched."

"I really didn't know..."

Robert reassured her, "It's simple. Just tell us what you did after you got back to the dorm. If you truly didn't know, we won't make things difficult for you."

Violette nodded, "I really didn't know. Yesterday, after Theodosia, Cecilia, and I got back, we ordered takeout. After eating, we each lay on our beds playing with our phones. I got a bit sleepy and dozed off. When I woke up, my phone was almost dead. I saw I had just enough time to get to class, so I rushed out."

Robert asked, "Do you bring water to gym class?"

Violette quickly shook her head, "I usually don't bring water to gym class."

"What about Cecilia?"

"She does," Violette replied, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation. "But all the water she brings is mine."

"Was the water she brought yesterday yours too?"

"Yes, it was."

"Do you remember when she took your water?"

"Well..." Violette furrowed her brow, trying to recall, "I really don't know when she took it. She always drinks my water. At first, I paid attention, but then I stopped. I even planned to stop buying it after this case because it felt unfair."

"Think carefully."

Violette said, "Maybe she took it while I was asleep. Otherwise, I would have noticed because the water case is under my bed."

"So, when you went to gym class, you already saw her with the water, right?"

Violette nodded, "Yeah, that's right."

If Nicolette was the culprit, she must have been retaliating for something done to her first.

Robert thought for a moment, his demeanor exuding the authority of a seasoned detective. "How many times have you done things like putting stuff in other people's water?"

"I never did such things!" Violette vehemently denied it. "If it happened, it was because Cecilia made us do it."

Dennis interjected, "Just answer yes or no!"

Violette lowered her head, feeling guilty and unable to meet their eyes. After a moment, she admitted, "Yes."

Dennis asked, "Was it a laxative?"

"Yes."

Robert looked at the girl in front of him, who was about the same age as his son, feeling a sense of helplessness.

How did a kind-hearted child turn into this?

He sighed deeply, "Tell us, how many times?"

"I really don't know. If you ask me to recall, I can't. We had to find the right moment. We couldn't just do it in front of her. We had to wait for the right opportunity. We usually did it when she wasn't paying attention."

Robert was speechless, wondering if he was interrogating a child or a criminal.

Violette, seeing the change in the officers' expressions, quickly tried to explain, "It's true, Sir. It wasn't that many times. At first, Nicolette didn't suspect anything, so we did it a few times. But she caught on quickly and started guarding her food and drinks. If anything was out of her sight, she wouldn't touch it. We failed several times after that... And we only used a bit of laxative, nothing harmful. The worst we did was add a bit of glycerin. But that just helps with digestion, right? It doesn't harm anyone's health."

Robert was furious, "Glycerin? Didn't you learn anything in college? Don't you know it's not meant to be ingested? While it might not harm health, it causes nausea and diarrhea! Severe cases can damage the stomach lining!"

Violette gestured with her fingers, "Just a little bit. We wouldn't dare do anything serious. Cecilia said to switch between laxatives and sleeping pills to make Nicolette sleepy in class and affect her grades."

Robert was increasingly appalled, "Did you do it yesterday?"

"No," Violette replied quickly, but her confidence wavered as she looked at the officers. "Yesterday had nothing to do with me. Maybe they saw an opportunity and did it without telling me, but I really don't know."

Robert took a deep breath. For a moment, he felt more sympathy for Nicolette, who, despite her extreme actions, never initiated conflict. She only retaliated when bullied.

These girls were pushing Nicolette to the brink.

Looking at Violette, Robert felt a mix of disgust and duty. As a detective, he couldn't let personal feelings interfere with the case.
