Chapter 210

Chapter 210

After listening to Zoey, Sable glanced at the empty water bottle in her hand.

No wonder she had to go to the bathroom so often. It was a laxative!

"Zoey, why didn't you tell me sooner? I just finished the last sip of the water. Oh my, am I going to be running to the restroom all night?"

Everyone who heard the call felt a mix of sympathy and frustration.

Even though it was a bit inappropriate to laugh at this moment, Robert couldn't help but find it a little funny.

Sable's cries echoed through the entire detective squad, followed by Vernon repeatedly asking why she was crying.

Zoey waited until Sable calmed down a bit before saying, "If you finished the water, you need to go to the hospital. Make sure to give the water bottle to Vernon. We're coming over to get it."

"Okay, Zoey, but do I really have to go to the hospital? I feel so embarrassed. Can't I just stay at home?"

Zoey was firm, "You need to go. We need your medical report for the investigation."

"Alright." Sable suddenly stopped crying and handed the phone to Vernon. "Vernon, I can't handle this. You talk to Zoey."

Vernon took the phone, clearly worried. "Zoey, who drugged Sable?"

"We don't know yet. Send us your location, and we're on our way."

"Okay." He quickly sent their address.

There was no need for a large group to go pick up a water bottle, so Robert and Zoey headed out. They could grab the evidence and head home together.

Vernon and Sable were very cooperative. When they arrived, Vernon had thoughtfully put the water bottle in a bag. "I didn't have any official bags, so I used this one. Is that okay?"

"It's fine," Zoey said, putting on disposable gloves and placing the water bottle into an evidence bag.

They then accompanied Sable to the hospital, explaining the case briefly on the way.

It was around midnight, and the hospital wasn't busy. After registering, Sable went in for her examination.

The three of them waited for the results, which took a while. The doctor said their tests couldn't definitively determine if Sable had been drugged or what the substance was, but her symptoms suggested she had likely ingested something that caused severe diarrhea.

The doctor recommended Sable stay overnight for observation.

With that settled, they just had to wait for the test results on the water bottle.

The next morning, the report came back. Despite the small amount of water left, it was enough to confirm the presence of a common laxative. The bottle had fingerprints from Nicolette, Sable, and Cecilia.

It was clear the water had been tampered with.

Robert analyzed the report. "According to Nicolette, Cecilia must have swapped the water during her lunch break, but I still don't understand when the cyanide was added."

Dennis suggested, "Could she have added it herself?"

Alexander, after reading the report, handed it back to Robert. "The only time we can confirm Nicolette had access to the water was when she got out of bed. If she didn't know about the cyanide, it could have been Theodosia or Violette."

"There's also the possibility that Nicolette suspected Cecilia would target her and added the cyanide herself. It's unlikely, but possible. At least we've narrowed down our suspects to these three."

Robert instructed, "Contact Violette, Theodosia, and Nicolette. We need to interrogate them today. Also, check their recent purchases for any cyanide transactions."

"Got it!"

Theodosia and Violette had just finished class when they got Zoey's call.

They rushed to the police station.

Nicolette had an afternoon class, so she would be a bit later, but it wouldn't delay things.

After interrogating Violette and Theodosia, Nicolette should arrive just in time.

Zoey asked Theodosia, "I heard Cecilia stole your boyfriend. Is that true?"

Theodosia was taken aback by the direct question. After a pause, she replied, "No, I never had a boyfriend for Cecilia to steal. Officer Brown, where did you hear that rumor?"

Zoey replied, "Everyone's saying it."

She was mimicking the boy's way of speaking.

Theodosia asked, "Who?"

Zoey responded, "Just everyone."

Theodosia was exasperated and quickly denied it. "There's no truth to it. I think you're talking about that guy. I can't even remember his name. People spread rumors because they don't know what really happened. He pursued me, but I didn't like him. When he realized he had no chance, he went after Cecilia. It wasn't stealing."

"But I'm puzzled why people say Cecilia stole my boyfriend. I didn't like him at all."

Zoey nodded, "I see. So, what's his name?"

Theodosia hesitated for several seconds. "I don't know. I really can't remember."

Zoey pressed, "He pursued you for so long, and you don't remember?"

Theodosia was frustrated.

Seeing Zoey's determination, she realized Zoey would find out one way or another.

After thinking, Theodosia said, "I think... his name was Isaiah."

Zoey noted the name, and Robert and Dennis arrived.

She wrote the name on a piece of paper and placed it prominently on the desk. "Officer Davis, it's all here."

"Alright, you can take a break now." Robert had already briefed the team.

To prevent Violette and Theodosia from coordinating their stories, they decided to interrogate them separately.

Zoey finished her part, and now it was Robert and Dennis's turn.
