Chapter 205

Chapter 205

That look said it all.

Alexander added, "You guessed right, it was cyanide poisoning. How'd you figure it out?"

"Haha, I really nailed it? Amazing!" Nicolette bragged, then continued, "Because you said alibis were useless in this case. I remember watching a cartoon that mentioned potassium cyanide. Plus, there are seven main causes of death in forensic science: extreme temperatures, electrocution, mechanical injuries, poisoning, disease, drowning, and others. Process of elimination, right? So, poison it is."

Alexander gave her a look. "You know quite a bit."

"Do I? Thanks."

Alexander asked, "Who do you think could be the killer of Cecilia?"

"Theodosia or Violette, definitely not me."

Alexander added, "But aren't Theodosia and Violette close friends with Cecilia?"

"That's just for show. Who'd really want to hang out with someone like Cecilia? They only stuck with her to avoid being isolated or targeted by her. Sometimes, blending in with the aggressor is a common way to protect oneself."

Alexander found her last statement quite insightful.

In today's society, there were too many people like that.

"Do you think there's any conflict between Violette and Theodosia?"

Nicolette replied, "Who cares about their..." She swallowed, then quickly corrected herself, glancing at Zoey, "I mean, I don't really care about their issues."

Zoey said, "Think carefully, this is important for us."

"There might be something!" Nicolette said, "But I'm not sure. I heard from someone that Cecilia might have stolen Theodosia's boyfriend. But whether he was really her boyfriend or just a crush, I don't know. And don't ask me who the guy is, I really don't know."

"I think both Violette and Theodosia could be suspects because of what I mentioned about Theodosia. As for Violette, she hated Cecilia because she did all of Cecilia's homework. I also heard that Cecilia often borrowed money from Violette since her family is quite wealthy. She borrowed a lot, and whether she paid it back, I don't know. Now that she's dead, Violette probably won't get her money back. Actually, even if Cecilia were alive, she might not have gotten it back. Haha."

"Oh, and I heard they recently found someone to pay for their meals, outings, and shopping. Someone named Sable? I think she's an idiot for making friends that way, but she seems to accept it..."

As Nicolette finished her rant, the interrogation was wrapping up.

Nicolette and Zoey added each other on Facebook.

Alexander noticed this. "I feel like you and Nicolette are quite similar."

Zoey rolled her eyes at him, saying nothing.

Nicolette was thrilled to hear someone say she was like Zoey. "Of course! Zoey is my idol!"

Alexander's curious gaze shifted between the two. "Idol?"

Zoey had little interaction with Nicolette and was puzzled about when she became Nicolette's idol.

She looked at Nicolette curiously. "What?"

Nicolette was reminiscing excitedly. "Zoey, I don't know if you remember. One Christmas Eve, I think I was in tenth grade, and you were in twelfth grade. My mom and I went to your house to borrow something. Your brother insisted on watching cartoons, but you wanted to watch a TV show. Your parents and grandma told you to let him watch, so you smashed the TV and said, 'If I can't watch, no one can. Let's all just stare at the Christmas tree.' It was so cool! I still remember it vividly!"

Alexander was speechless.

Zoey thought for a moment, "I think that did happen."

Nicolette continued enthusiastically: "And another time, your mom asked you to bring your brother a midnight snack, and you dumped the whole bowl into his backpack. I was in the same class as him, sitting right next to him. It was so cool!"

Alexander didn't get it. Why was that cool?

"Why did you dump the snack in his backpack?" Alexander asked.

Zoey was recalling the incident, but Nicolette jumped in: "Zoey said if she couldn't eat, why should her brother get to eat!"

Alexander was speechless again.

That didn't seem like Zoey's style at all. Wouldn't she have just sneaked a bite?

Alexander looked at her. "Didn't you think of sneaking a bite?"

Zoey replied, "I could have, but I prefer making others feel worse."

Alexander guessed right.

Nicolette's admiration for Zoey grew even more, as if she were meeting a superstar. "Zoey, you're so cool! From that moment, I told myself I had to live as cool as you!"

Zoey said, "You did it."

"Not even close! Do you know when you were the coolest to me?"

Zoey had done so many things, she couldn't remember.

She just looked at her, waiting for her to speak.

Nicolette's excitement didn't wane, it grew. "It was when you represented the honor students and introduced yourself on stage... You were so cool. You said, 'Good morning, teachers and students. I'm Zoey, and my brother is an idiot. Since we're on the topic, let me introduce my brother, Derek from class 15. Please take care of him.'"

Alexander was speechless again.

It seemed Zoey had never hidden her disdain. He could imagine the scene.

Zoey also remembered herself back then and thought of Derek's expression, still feeling satisfied.

"Pretty cool, right?" Zoey asked.

Nicolette replied, "Yes, super cool!"

Alexander, standing nearby, suddenly felt that Nicolette's current approach to fighting fire with fire might have been influenced by Zoey.

However, Alexander looked at Nicolette, and then at Zoey.

Although Nicolette's style was imitating Zoey's, something felt off.

He hadn't figured it out yet.

The interrogation ended, and Nicolette left.

Alexander stretched, feeling a bit tired after sitting all afternoon.

Zoey glanced outside. It was already dark. Although the lights on the field were on, there was a sense of something sinister lurking in the darkness.

It gave an unsettling feeling.
